Chapter 13 FREDA WHITLOCK “I’ll be right back. I need to get something from the car,” I told Lyra who was paying all of her attention to Cisco. He had been trying to figure out how to play a color matching game on the iPad and he had not found his way so Lyra was helping him. “Sure. Take your time,” she smiled and me and turned her attention back to Cisco. I looked back at my father who was fast asleep now. He had barely spoken with us for an hour before he went back to sleep. I looked down at my phone and saw that the time was a little after five in the evening. I was exhausted, but I was not leaving until Dad woke up again and I would be able to bid him a good night. I had not decided on where to stay. There were no motels or hotels in the pack grounds because we only ever received werewolf visitors and the werewolf community was very united. Any werewolf visitors stayed in the pack house with the other wolves, except they wanted a place of their own. I wanted a place of my own. I wanted myself and Francisco to be as far away as possible from my sister, my stepmother and Kaiden, who was now the Alpha of the pack. I sighed as I walked down the hallway. I was not sure how I was going to keep avoiding them, but planned on doing just that. I was not going to let anyone bother me or my son. Especially my 0.00% ||| 18:35 son. And as much as possible, I wanted to keep Francisco away from anyone who would notice him, because he bore a resemblance that was so close to Kaiden that sometimes it hurt my chest The universe, the Moon Goddess and the whole world just have been against me, because as I walked into another hallway- the one that led to the entrance of the infirmary, Safiya walked out of a door with a bright smile on her face and she turned right in my direction.
My heart stopped and I hated that I froze, but I could not move a single muscle. “Freda?” She called, freezing in her spot as well. ‘Oh dear goddess…’ I muttered under my breath, hoping that she would remain frozen and I would be able to walk away, then she would forget that she ever saw me. It was a lot to ask, and I knew it was impossible, but I could not help the wishful thinking. “Oh goddess, it’s you Freda!” She exclaimed and rushed at me. It seemed that she had broken out of her shock faster than I had. She wrapped her hands around me and her signature daisy scent hit my nostrils fast. She still smelt the same way she did back when I left. Her body had rounded and matured in all the right places and she was looking more mature, more womanly. She was gorgeous. And I hated to say it, but I missed her. 25.31% Chalder I wrapped my hands around her too and closed my eyes, accepting this calmness and peace before the storm of her demanding and possessive attitude would begin. “I have missed you so much,” she breathed once she pulled back from the hug and I managed to muster a smile in return. “Why did you leave?” She asked, without waiting for me to speak. “Where have you been all these years?” She continued with the questions and I realized that I had been right. She was still as self absorbed as she had always been. While it was a painful confirmation of what I had assumed, it hurt nonetheless, because she hadn’t done anything yet, but I knew she was going to make my stay at this pack hell. “A lot has happened since you left,” she went on with a smile, oblivious of the fact that I wanted to walk away from her as much as I wanted my father to live. And that was will all my heart, with my very being. “Indeed?” I asked with a small smile as I started to walk away, hoping she would take the hint to stop talking, walk away from me and maybe step in front of a moving vehicle.
Maybe that was a little too much. “Yes,” she grinned at me. “Don’t worry, I’ll fill you in,” she said and I nodded. If I attempted to increase my pace, she would notice that I was trying to avoid speaking to her. And while I didn’t particularly want a relationship with her, I did not want to make her feel bad on the first day of my arrival here. “Kaiden is the Alpha now,” she started and I resisted a groan. Of course the first thing she would want to talk about was Kaiden. 49.71% ||| O < 18:36 Chapter 13 “I know that,” I told her, mustering as much of a polite smile as I could. “We are married now. We have a gorgeous daughter and we are expecting another child,” she smiled wide as she spoke. She kept on speaking, oblivious to the fact that the heart that sat broken in my chest had managed to shatter further. I bit my lip. This was a nightmare. This was the worst of my nightmare. I was not going to lie to myself and say that I had not expected to hear something of that sort. At the same time, I had thought I would be ready for the pain. Clearly, I was wrong. I had been robbed of my air and I was not going to let Safiya see that her words had hurt me. There was absolutely no way I was going to do that. “I have to go, Safiya,” I interrupted her. All of my politeness was out the window and all I wanted was for her to stop talking. It was either that, or I did not want to hear her voice anymore. She definitely would not stop talking, so i was going to stop listening. I walked away from her without another word and walked to my car. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
