A Naive Bride for the Sophisticated CEO

Chapter 38: I don’t care

Chapter 38: I don’t care

‘What the hell.’

James stared at the staircase which Amelia had climbed in great shock. He couldn’t believe she had just walked out on him.

“Ame…”

All of a sudden, his phone began to ring, cutting him short. He clenched his jaw and walked up to the couch, where he had left his phone.

He picked up his phone and saw his mother calling. He answered the phone and angrily placed it on his ear.

“Mom,” He muttered.

“Woah… what’s with the cold voice?”

“Nothing.”

“Are you sure? What’s wrong? Is Amelia back?”

“Mom, can you please not ask me about her? If you want to know anything about her and her whereabouts, you can call her and ask. I don’t care about her.”

“Hey… can you calm down? I never asked if you cared about her or not. Why are you acting weird? Who pissed you off?”

“No one. I’m fine.”

“Fine. I’ll call her to ask her then. But you have to apologize to her for what happened last night. You did something wrong.”

“Mom, I am not apologizing! I have to go now.”

He hung up the call and threw the phone into the pocket of his pants. He clenched his fists and stared at the staircase again.

‘Why do I even want to know where she was throughout the night? I don’t care.’

He exhaled softly and walked up the stairs. He headed to his room and when he got to the door, he hesitated to open the door.

“But will I just let her be after walking out on me? I am James Parker! No woman has ever done that to me!”

He put on a straight face and headed to the next floor, where Amelia’s room was.

As he approached her door, he could hear her speaking.

Amelia sat on her bed, smiling widely. Her phone was on speaker as she was speaking to Fred.

She was busy removing her earrings, preparing to have a warm bath.

“I am home now. Have you eaten too?” She asked and stood up from the bed.

“Yes, I have. How are you? Are you good?” Fred asked in response, making her smile widely.

“I’m fine, Fred. You don’t have to worry about me. You have many other things to worry about.”

She removed her gown and walked to the bathroom door to pick up her towel when the door suddenly opened.

“What the hell!” She yelled and turned back to see James staring at her with his eyes widened.

She bent down and quickly wrapped her hands around her body.

“Why didn’t you knock!” She yelled in terror.

“Why didn’t you lock the door when you knew you would be changing your clothes?” He asked with a smirk.

“Look away,” She muttered in a panic.

“Amelia? Amelia, are you okay?!” Fred asked in a loud tone, and James looked at the phone on her bed.

She hurriedly reached for her towel on the door and wrapped it around her body. She ran to the bed and grabbed her phone before he could get it.

“Who is that?” He asked, and Amelia held onto her towel firmly and looked at the screen.

“I’ll call you back.”

She hung up the call and looked at James. He folded his arms and glared at her, waiting for the answer to his question.

“Why do you care?” She responded, and he arched one of his eyebrows.

“Why are you here anyways?” She asked, walking to the bathroom.

“This is my house! And don’t you dare walk out on me again!” He smacked, pointing his finger to her.

She heaved a sigh and turned to look at him again. She bounced her head slowly and placed her phone on the table next to her.

“Okay.” She folded her arms and began to stare at James too.

James became uncomfortable after they stared at each other for minutes. He gulped and looked away.

“I need you to prepare a manuscript about the Casino in Florida. Since you have been there, it shouldn’t be hard, right?” He asked coldly.

Amelia knitted her brows and walked closer to him.

“But… but I don’t know anything about the Casino. Plus, it’s the weekend, can’t I do it on Monday?” She asked calmly.

“So are you saying no to me? Have you forgotten I am your boss? I could fire you for what you have just done.”

Amelia swallowed hard as her heart began to beat very fast. He could do anything to her, but not take her job from her. That was the only way she could take herself seriously. She loved her job.

“Please don’t fire me. I’ll do some research about it and prepare the manuscript before the end of today.”

James smirked after seeing her sober she turned after he threatened to fire her.

‘Now I know what to do to her.’ He thought, divulging an evil smirk.

“I give you two hours to prepare the manuscript.”

He buried his hand in his pocket and turned to leave. As he stepped out of the room, he rested his back on the door, and his eyes widened again.

He recalled her bare body he saw for a few seconds and shook his head.

‘What are you thinking, James?’ He let out a disgusted look and strutted back to his room.

Amelia exhaled loudly and picked up her phone again. She looked at the screen and saw James had already sent her a message.

She opened the text and read;

“Amelia, are you alright?”

She smiled and replied to him.

“I’m fine, James. I just had a talk with Mr. James. I will be busy for the next two to three hours. He needs me to do some office work.”

Her message was delivered, and she waited for him to respond since he was online.

“Office work on a Saturday? Who does that?” Fred responded.

“Mr. James does that. I can’t lose my job, so I have to do what he says.”

“I know you love your job, but once he knows you can’t afford to lose this job, won’t he use that against you all the time?”

“I don’t think so. I think if he wants to fire me, he would. Nothing can stop me. I can’t risk that. I have to go now, okay? I’ll text you when I’m done.”

She dropped her phone and hurriedly into the bathroom to have her bath.

~After two hours~

After Amelia gathered what she could from the internet about the Casino, she stopped researching and read through her manuscript for the last time.

She felt satisfied with what she had written and headed out of her room. She got to James’ room and stood in front of his door.

She let out her breath from her mouth before reaching for the door knob. She felt the knob turn under her hand and she quickly withdrew her hand.

The door opened and James walked out in only shorts.

Her eyes fell from his face down to his smooth chest and pink nipples.

James noticed she was staring, and he scoffed. He grabbed the paper in her hand, jerking her back to reality.

“Stop drooling.”

Amelia looked at his face and shook her head. “I wasn’t drooling.”

He took a quick scan through what she had written and it seemed to impress him. But, he wasn’t going to go easy on her.

He looked closely, trying to look for mistakes to make her rewrite the manuscript, but he saw none.

“I need you to…” Amelia’s phone began to beep, cutting him short. She looked at the screen of her phone and saw Fred calling.

She smiled heartily, and James furrowed his brows, staring at her.

“Excuse me, please.”

She answered the phone and walked far away from James’ room.

“Hi, Fred.”

“Amelia, I was thinking I could help ease your stress. What do you think?”

“Really? How?” She asked and caught James looking at her.

She smiled and looked away again.

‘Looks like point Six goes harder.’ She thought, remembering the list she had created to make James like her.

“I found this super cool restaurant. I want us to eat there. Trust me, you are going to love it.”

“Oh, sounds good to me.” She responded and looked at James again. But this time, he wasn’t standing there anymore. He had entered his room and shut the door.

“So, I’ll see you at 3pm? I’ll pick you up.”

“Sure. Okay.”

The smile on her face faded off slowly as she walked back to James’ door. She placed her ear on the door to hear what he was doing, but she heard nothing.

“Mr. James, I will be going out soon.”

She eagerly waited for him to respond and tell her not to go because he was jealous. Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

“I don’t care.” She heard him reply, and she rolled her eyes and moved back.

“Okay.”

She turned to leave and kept looking back occasionally, wanting him to open the door and ask her to stay back, but he didn’t.

“Fine.” She mumbled and headed to her room to change.

After James realized she had gone, he clenched his jaw and stared at Tina’s number. He needed a chick to bang, but how would he call her after what happened at the office.

‘She said she hates me, she wouldn’t want to help me anymore. And I can’t beg her. I won’t.’

He exhaled and fell on his bed. He stared at the ceiling thinking about what to do when a message popped into his phone.

He looked at the message and saw it was Ava that texted him.

“Hi, Baby. I came to your office yesterday but you weren’t in the office. Since it’s the weekend, do you want to hangout?” She texted with a pleading face emoji.

James stared at her text and a smile slowly crawled up his face. ‘Great.’
