Chapter 238
“I’m sorry.” Drew was dragged to the door, then turned around to bow deeply. “Also, thank you.”
Claire nodded at Drew with a relieved smile. © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
After the three of them left, the house finally returned to its peaceful state. Immediately, Claire cradled Camila’s face to check for any harm. Her voice was tinged with regret. “I didn’t protect you well enough.”
Camila sniffled and shook her head.
“It doesn’t hurt.”
Claire wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes, watched her daughter tenderly, and said, “From now on, it’s just going to be the two of us against the world.”
Camila hugged her, gently patting her back to comfort her, “I’ll always be with you. I’ll make lots of money, and ahead of us are only good days.”
Claire stroked Camila’s face, sobbing lightly, “I feel so sorry for you.”
Camila smiled and said seriously, “Were you not feeding me enough or not letting me go to school? Besides, you even made me so beautiful that others are jealous.”
Claire couldn’t help but laugh. “Why are you so narcissistic?”
They exchanged a smile, gradually the pain eased in their hearts.
Claire got some ointment for Camila, furious. “I could never bring myself to hit you, my precious girl, and that bitch did.”
Camila chuckled, “Isn’t it because I’m well-behaved?”
“Enough with your joking. Tomorrow, your face will still show the marks. That Melinda has such a strong arm.”
Camila embraced her. “One slap to set boundaries. I think it was worth it.”
She laughed again, showing off her arm muscles to Claire. “Her face will definitely be swollen like a pig’s head tomorrow. I’ve been training, you know.”
After saying that, she paused for a moment. She lowered her eyes, taking a soft breath.
All her skills were taught by Connor.
Claire pinched her arm, which was surprisingly muscular. “You do have some muscle.”
Camila looked up, smiling, “Mom, I’m hungry.”
“I’ll make us something to eat right now,” Claire said as she touched her head.
Ding-dong —
The doorbell rang, and Claire, after checking the peephole, opened the door.
Cole saw Claire’s red eyes, and asked anxiously, “Why have you been crying?”
Claire shook her head, smiling, “It’s nothing.”
“I saw that your shop was closed today, so I got a bit worried, and came to check on you,” Cole said with concern.
“Hi Cole.” Camila greeted.
“Cami’s here too,” noted Cole, hearing Camila’s voice and glancing inside. He frowned and asked sharply, “Cami, what happened to your face?”
“Some nasty woman hit me.” Camila said with a smile, “I hit her back.”
“Why didn’t you call me? Who did this? I’ll go sort it out!” Cole rolled up his sleeves, ready to stand up for them.
Claire closed the door and explained everything to him.
“Cami, does it hurt?” Cole stared at Camila’s face anxiously. “How could she hit you so hard? I should call Craig over.”
“Cole, I’m really okay,” Camila reassured him. “Don’t worry. Mom and I are feeling great now.”
Claire headed to the kitchen, saying, “I was just about to make dinner. If you’re not busy, stay and eat with us.”
“Okay, awesome!” Cole’s face lit up instantly.
Camila smiled at him, “Cole, you should come over for dinner more often.”
“Sure,” Cole responded, turning his head towards the kitchen with a smile.
Camila covered her mouth, giggling secretly.
