A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 903: Acting Cute

When Ranita was young, she had a close relationship with Jedidiah.

Whenever she made Jedidiah angry or did something wrong, she would pretend to be pitiful.

Jedidiah could never resist it.

“Don’t act pitiful with me!” Jedidiah said irritably after a pause. “Do you like him that much?”

Ranita felt embarrassed and shyly avoided speaking.

Jedidiah understood everything.

“You!” Jedidiah sighed. “Mom said she would come to see you later. How are you going to explain this to her?”

Ranita began to panic.

“Jedidiah…” Ranita pouted and pleaded pitifully, “Help me.”

Jedidiah patted her head. “Alright, stop acting cute with me!”

“What’s so good about Brendon that you’re so devoted to him?” Jedidiah felt jealous. The sister he adored was being taken away by someone else.

Ranita felt even more embarrassed.

“Jedidiah, stop talking.”

“Hmph!” Jedidiah took out a mint candy from his pocket. “Here, suck on this to soothe your throat.”© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

Ranita knew Jedidiah would soften. She took the candy and smiled, “Thank you, Jedidiah!”

At that moment, the door to the hospital room opened.

Chole walked in holding Alexia’s hand. Chole glanced at Jedidiah and then at Ranita, her expression full of mockery and anger.

“Mom, sister,” Ranita mumbled a greeting. Alexia walked over and asked,

“Are you feeling better? You really scared us with that sudden fever.”

“I’m much better now. Thank you for your concern, Mom.” Ranita frowned. “The fever has gone down, and I just need some rest.”

Alexia asked a few more questions before bringing up Ayaan. “Where is Ayaan?”

Jedidiah quickly explained, “Mom, Ranita wasn’t feeling well, so Ayaan’s dad took him.”

“What? Brendon was here?” Alexia’s face darkened at the mention of Brendon. “Why did you let him take Ayaan?”

Jedidiah explained, “Mom, he’s Ayaan’s father. How could I stop him?”

“Mom, don’t worry about this! Ranita is much better now and might be able to go home tomorrow. You and Chole should go back first!”

After a pause, Jedidiah added, “There are lots of germs in the hospital, and you’re still recovering yourself!”

Alexia angrily slapped Jedidiah. “What are you saying? Can’t I come to see Ranita? She is my daughter!”

“Ranita, give me the address. I’ll go get Ayaan back…” Alexia’s firm attitude made Ranita’s eyelids twitch nervously.

“Mom… he’s Ayaan’s father. He has the right to visit and take care of Ayaan. Please don’t do this.”

Ranita didn’t know what else to say.

Alexia’s face turned even darker. “Ranita, I’m doing this for your own good! I’ve said it before; we won’t let you have anything to do with him again! Ayaan is a child of Bowman’s Mansion.”

“He divorced you back then, and you raised the child alone. What right does he have to be the child’s father?”

Alexia’s words plunged the room into silence.

Finally, Chole broke the silence with a faint voice. She looked at Ranita with a hint of mockery in her tone. “Silly sister, Mom is right. If people found out about a man like him still being in your life, they would laugh at you and Bowman’s Mansion!”

“If you want to lose face, do it on your own. Don’t drag us down with you.”
