Accidentally Married

Branch Ninety Four

Xavier got the phone ready and put out it on the island. Jessica could not deny but it looked good and she could not wait to taste it so she could know what it tasted like.

“Can we still have the wine?” she asked pulling out the cutest face she could muster.

“You still want to drink,” Xavier asked shocked at her request.

“If we have nothing to do then I guess having a cup or two would not hurt one bit” she explained trying to make her case.

He looked at her intensely for a while. She was right there was nothing wrong with the low alcohol-content wine he had brought out earlier.

“Okay ma’am,” he said setting the cups on the island with the meal he had prepared. He poured some wine into both cups before he came to sit beside her.

“Should we eat here?” Jessica asked when she saw him faking his seat.

“I guess we can do so if you are comfortable with it,” Xavier said.

There was no need for them to travel all the way to the couch just to eat and this served as a good table for them.

“So I’m going in to taste it. Any words before I taste it?” Jessica asked teasing him. It was obvious he had not prepared any serious meal before and that he was anxious to know how it would turn out.

“Sure,” he said rubbing his hand over his trousers.

“Okay then,” Jessica said twirling her fork in the bowl of pasta he had served for her. She put it close to her nose and sniffed lightly before she put it in her mouth and chewed gently.

“Oh wow,” she said her hand going up to her mouth to cover it.

“How is it?” he asked his eyes widening.Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.

“With a little guidance maybe you would be as good as Chef Liston” Jessica complimented.

At the sound of Liston’s name, Xavier felt his jaw tighten. He had watched from a distance as Liston had flirted openly with his wife that day. He saw how Jessica did not turn him down. Could it be that She was already looking for a new man? Was it that a taste of the rich life had gotten her dreaming big? Was his offer not good enough?

Was she looking to move on already when they were yet to reach fifty percent of the validity period? It was good if one grew ambitious but she could at least wait for them to get divorced already.

“Listen? Why would you bring him up?” Xavier asked unable to hide his emotions.

“Oh, you know chef Liston right? Of course, you know him. You rich ones move together. He had been my role model ever since I got into cooking” she said dreamily.

“I know him and I know how much of a flirt he is,” Xavier said trying to discredit him so much.

“I don’t know him personally but his meals are to die for,” Jessica said happily.

“I personally think his meals are trash and have no class whatsoever. If my cooking tastes like his then I guess it is not good enough and we should discard it before any of us gets food poisoning” Xavier said standing up with both bowls in hand.

“Wait wait wait what are you trying to do?” Jessica said stopping him with her hand that hurt.

“I have to dispose of this,” he said pulling his hand so her grip could loosen on him.

“Ahh” she exclaimed in pain. “Why would you waste perfectly good food?” she asked ignoring her pain.

“Because you compared it to Liston’s”

“Something is going on here,” Jessica said raising her eyebrows up.

“Nothing is up” he said in a grumble.

She looked at his face and scrunched her whole face up. What could it be?

“Are you by any chance jealous of Liston?” “It’s so obvious that something is wrong. How would you want to throw away perfectly good food just because I said it tastes like a famous chef’s food.” Jessica said standing up and standing in his front.

“Nothing is wrong. I just do not feel like eating this anymore”

“Well, I do feel like eating it. This might be the only meal my husband would make for me” Jessica blurted.

Her hand went to her mouth and she became wide-eyed. ‘What did she just say and what?’

“Your husband?” Xavier sod his back still to her and he thanked his stars for that. His face had turned so red it was spreading to his ears.

“Errrmmm. That’s not what I meant” Jessica said blabbing away trying to justify what she had just blurted without thinking.

“I do not think there is anything wrong in what you have said. I am your husband after all. If you insist then we can have the meal” he said clearing his throat and dropping the food back to the table.

Jessica pulled the plate to herself and began to hurriedly eat the meal. She did not stop from stuffing her mouth.

“Woah slow down,” Xavier said pulling the plate away from her front. “There is nothing wrong if you call me your husband, legally speaking I am so…” he trailed off.

“I know you do not like being addressed as one and I just made a tiny error. I just wanted to stop you from wasting perfectly good food” she said with a full mouth.

“I heard nothing of what you said. Why don’t you chew and swallow before you try again” Xavier said taking a sip from the glass of wine.

Jessica turned her head away from him and chewed hurriedly. She swallowed and took the wine to wash down everything she had just eaten.

“Can I have my plate now?” she asked looking down. She decided not to say anything again until maybe the next day. She had been putting herself in trouble with her words and she did not want to do it again.

Xavier slid the plate back to her. “Take slow bites,” he said in a commanding voice. There was no way she would not do that.

“Can I ask something important?” Xavier asked his voice returning to normal.

“Yeah sure,” she said taking a chug of the wine this time.

“Do you have intentions of remarrying after we get a divorce?”

‘So we are still getting a divorce? Noted. You act as if the deal was off before’ she said in her mind.

“Who would marry me?” she said mockingly. “I am sure that no one would want to marry the woman who was not good enough for the Delgado heir,” she said harshly.

When she replayed her words in her head she knew she sounded harsh but why should she be sorry? She would be the old used baggage while he would still be good as new and favorable and it did not matter if he claimed fault for the divorce she would still be blamed. The society was damaged like that.

“Many men so far,” Xavier said giving an answer. So far of all men she had met while they were together most of them thought of her as a potential partner.

They would have made a move to ask her out if she was unmarried. Maybe the divorce would really put her out of the market.

“I am sorry that my situation would put you at a disadvantage,” he said remorseful.

“I was once so invested in getting a nice wedding and a lovely marriage where everything is perfect but after being dumped on my wedding day marriage became a nightmare to me and the reason I married you was because I was ashamed of leaving without a marriage certificate. After the divorcee. I would live a nice quiet life” she told him.

Maybe the divorce would be her liberation.
