The conference room was silent, save for Gwendolyn and Howard.
Turning her head with a curious gleam in her eye, Gwendolyn inquired, “A message about what?”
Howard rested his hand on the back of her chair. With a gentle tug, the chall on wheels rolled towards him, bringing them face–to–face Just inches apart

At this, Gwendolyn let out a chuckle, asking. “Are you talking about Mr. Bainbridge?”
Howard’s gaze was intense and penetrating. “Tonight, I expect there might be fireworks.”
“Mr. Chadwick, it seems to me that you have your finger on the pulse of everything. You’re always in control, Gwendolyn said, her admiration evident. She often felt a step behind.
Howard’s eyes half–closed as he glanced at her, his index finger lightly tapping the spot over her heart
“That’s what I can’t predict.”
Gwendolyn quickly crossed her arms over her chest, ripples of emotion in her eyes. “Hey, no need for tricks now”
Howard cleared his throat. That was not the only time his hands had ventured there.
“Mr. Chadwick, you’re emotionally attached to the Chadwick Group, aren’t you?” Gwendolyn asked, looking intently into his eyes.
He could have easily crushed the Chadwick Group, but instead, he chose to preserve it.

Howard softened his noble features slightly, his voice deep. “This seat you’re in is used to be mine. I had nothing but reverence for my grandfather… but his fear of me grew. This place bears the marks of my journey. In the future, I plan to merge the Chadwick Group with Summit Corp, but the Chadwick family. they won’t get to lay a finger on it.”
That was why he had pushed the Chadwick family members out in advance.
Gwendolyn looked up to him as he spoke, noticing that even in private, he still referred to Warren as ‘grandpa. He was a man of deep loyalty.
She wanted to help him achieve his dream.
“Mr. Chadwick, you’re the most impressive man I’ve ever met”
Her eyes shone with a sparkling clarity, reflecting only his figure, as if he were the sole presence in a crystal–clear lake.
Standing up. Howard placed his hands on either side of her chair, leaning over her, “Dr. Gwen, just how many men have you met?”
“Quite a few.” Replying, she began to list them: those from her village, school, and the hospital.
“Just look at me, alright?” His voice was a whisper, his breath almost touching her own.
Gwendolyn found herself lost in the depths of his eyes. Without thinking, she murmured, “Alright”
Pleased by her response, he pressed his lips gently to hers, murmuring against her skin, “Dear Dr. L for the day”
Warmth spread through her, a tangible pulse of emotion. Her beautiful eyes brimmed with a watery light.

The bright sunlight streaming through the floor–to–ceiling windows cast a glow on her delicate, pale neck as Howard kissed her lips, her earlobe, her neck. She bit her lip to contain her sounds.
He seemed to enjoy kissing her neck particularly and she couldn’t resist leaning into his touch
“Mr Chadwick… you’ll leave a mark,” she whispered softly.
“We’re husband and wife,” he countered, not stopping
But he did pause to lift her into his arms, cradling the back of her head as he deepened their kiss.
“My phone… is ringing,” Gwendolyn managed to say, her voice trembling.
Lately, there had been so many unknown calls.
11l get it for you.”
Howard took the cell phone from her pocket, noting an anonymous intemational number flash on the screen. His eyes flickered with a hint of something unreadable before he swiped to answer
Yet his lips found their way to Gwendolyn’s earlobe again, kissing her teasingly, intentionally.
