Chapter 182
Chapter 182
“Come on, we’ve been through thick and thin together. Your hubby got me the latest iPhone. I’m a bit embarrassed: Sandra said, looping her arm through Gwendolyn’s and beaming with joy.
“You camed it” replied Gwendolyn
The mention of the phone reminded Gwendolyn that she had yet to wire the money to Howard. She decided to ask him how much it cost that evening, but the mere thought of last night’s escapade made her blush.
“Sandra, I need to check in with Dr. Yates. Gwendolyn then said.
“Sure. Don’t forget to call me for lunch, okay?”
“Will do.” With that Gwendolyn turned and headed towards Alken’s office.
Along the way, everyone she knew greeted her warmly, and even strangers regarded her with kind eyes.
Except for one person, a figure in hospital scrubs who watched her darkly from around a corner.
Gwendolyn hesitated for a moment before walking past.
But the person clearly wasn’t going to let her off easily.
“Gwendolyn!” The voice belonged to Vivien, who called out loudly.
Gwendolyn stopped and tumed, “What’s up?”
Vivien, barely containing her anger, asked, “What’s the deal with you and Conrad? Why is he helping you?”
“What?” Gwendolyn was confused. She didn’t even know Conrad.
“Cut the act! You were supposed to be the one in trouble last night… but somehow, I ended up the unlucky one. Did you snag a bargain with Howard because of me?” Vivien accused.
Putting these words together, Gwendolyn had a guess.
“Last night, were you planning to spike my and Mr. Chadwick’s dishes, but somehow you ended up taking your dose?” she asked coolly. “I don’t know any Conrad, but I do believe in karma.”
“That was supposed to be for you!” Vivien glared venomously at her. “This is all your fault!”
“Vivien, I’ve done nothing to you. The idea to switch brides was yours and Gemma’s. I’ve been minding my business in the countryside.” Gwendolyn reminded her.
But this only infuriated Vivien further.
“What are you so smug about? Smug that you lucked out and married Howard?”
Vivien scoffed, “Do you think he loves you? He’s only interested in your pretty face!”
Gwendolyn didn’t want to argue any longer. I have things to do.”
With that, she walked away swiftly.
Vivien shouted after her, “You’ll suffer more than me someday! Your current happiness won’t last! If you knew the truth about the car
accident…
Gwendolyn dismissed her ramblings and continued to Aiken’s office.
Hearing voices inside, she mised her hand and knocked on the door.
“Come in,” Alken called.
Gwendolyn turned the knob and opened the door. NôvelDrama.Org content.
Immediately, she saw Aiken and Sanford inside.
She greeted them politely.
“Come in!” Aiken welcomed her with a rare smile. “You know, you could have taken a few more days off to rest at home. There’s no need to rush back to work”
“My left hand is fine, and the right is getting there. I can still assist with some tasks, Gwendolyn said, thinking of the simpler duties like scheduling appointments.
“I was just telling Mr. Hamilton here that you’re a go–getter Aiken remarked.
Gwendolyn glanced at Sanford. Their last encounter had been at a press conference, and the one before that had ended on a sour note. Now facing each other, they weren’t sure what to say
