Chapter 207
Chapter 207
Beside the shimmering waters of Sapphire Serenity Lake, the kiss ended.
Gwendolyn’s cars burned red as she murmured with downcast eyes. “Mr. Chadwick
He was always so aloof and prideful. How could he do such a thing before so many people?
“I just felt like it,” Howard muttered, reining in his passionate tide.
Their relationship had made a breakthrough the night before. Even if they hadn’t gone all the way, there wasn’t much difference in how he felt. Sutten by the woman he desired, a man was never truly satiated.
After hearing his response, Gwendolyn felt her face heat up to the point of steam. Her shy eyes flickered with fragmented light as she gazed into his, a torrent of unspoken words swirling within Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
Ryan strolled to Howard and said, “We need to talk.”
Understanding the cue, Gwendolyn released Howard’s hand and said, “Mr. Chadwick, I go and watch the fireworks.”
She walked away with a spring in her step.
Ryan’s disdainful gaze shifted from her retreating figure to Howard, and he said, “You don’t need to hurt Selina this way to make her regret and upsel”
“You’re all gooey over Selina. Don’t think everyone else is on the same
same page,” Howard replied, his expression cold and detached.
“The girl’s suffering because of you!” Ryan burst out. “You’ve seen the psychiatric report. She’s got post traumatic stress from that car accident, spiraling into severe depression. Only you can save her! She was a victim in that crash, too. The Chadwick family owes her!”
Ryan’s voice was with anger. “Howard, do you think she dumped you and left the country when you were critically ill? When she learned you were in a vegetative state, she was so distraught that she attempted suicide. Selina never wanted to leave you. Her family forced her to leave!”
Howard remained impassive, listening to the accusations before finally saying, “So what?”
“Divorce that country girl and many Selina, Ryan said bluntly.
Howard’s mouth twitched into a scornful smile. “Are you out of your mind?”
“Have you forgotten what happened ten years ago? You promised the Hamilton family that you’d look after her for life.”
“I haven’t forgotten that,” Howard replied, his gaze lowered. He had fulfilled his duty to the Hamilton family to the best of his ability.
The rocks were covered in slippery moss on the other side of Sapphire Serenity Lake, where the waves lapped gently against the shore.
Watching the fireworks explode in a kaleidoscope above, Gwendolyn smiled.
“Ms. Quigley,” A discordant female voice sounded behind her
In a chic black dress, Selina approached her and sighed. “He never used to do something so unlike him.”
Gwendolyn frowned at her.
“If it weren’t for that accident, Howie and I would probably have engaged by now,” Selina said with a hint of resignation.
Selina and Howard would have engaged?
Then what was Vivien? A stand–in after the accident?
Gwendolyn’s smile slowly faded.
“We were childhood sweethearts, Selina continued, “the golden boy and girl of Baynidge City, everyone said.”
Gwendolyn bit her lip and asked, “What are you trying to say?”
“Nothing much. Just that I feel sorry for you and thought I should warn you. Howle and I have a history of over a decade, and you and him… Selina’s gaze was full of pity and sympathy.
Gwendolyn’s eyes dropped. She had known Howard for only a few months.
“And I heard you’re a college student sponsored by the Stellar Crescent Foundation. That foundation…” Selina started, then covered her mouth, adding, “I wouldn’t want to hurt you with the truth.”
Her words had hidden meanings.
Gwendolyn’s fingertips pressed into her palm. What was the real story?
Selina’s eyes glinted with calculation as she took Gwendolyn’s hand and whispered, “Your marriage began with a mistake. Has he ever told you he loves you? Has he ever said he’s marrying you willingly?”
Gwendolyn felt dazed. He had never said those words.
