Chapter 238
“Exactly.” Howard affirmed.
Gwendolyn felt her head spin with the complexity of it all and sighed, “They really go to great lengths, don’t they?”
How do these rich folks even think? No wonder they know how to make a buck.
Howard looked into her eyes earnestly and said, “One day, they’ll go to great lengths just to see you too.”
A warm feeling blossomed in Gwendolyn’s heart, and she nodded emphatically, “Yeah”
The driver pulled up to the hospital entrance, and Gwendolyn stepped out of the car with a spring in her step, “Mr. Chadwick, you better head to the office. With the big contract we just landed, there’s no need for you to drop me off anymore.”
“Okay”
Gwendolyn stood there, watching the car drive away with a smile, before turning to walk into the hospital.
“Dr. Quigley, good moming. The media coverage from the free clinic was fantastic. I hear the hospital’s planning to hold an appreciation ceremony for you guys.”
“Really? Well, that’s pretty nice, Gwendolyn replied with a smile, slipping into her hospital gown on her way to the clinic.
“Coming in for your shift? It’s going to be a busy day. Sandra said with a laugh, “The patients who come here by reputation were so disappointed when you weren’t around,”
Gwendolyn returned the smile and punched in for work. Twenty appointments vanished in the blink of an eye.
She had surpassed Aiken to become the hottest name in the Rehabilitation Department. Some speculated that Gwendolyn was on track to become the youngest–ever head physician in its history
“The first one..

o those grappling with
The waiting room outside her clinic was filled with patients. They ranged from those seeking routine care to complex ailments that medicine couldn’t resolve. They all hoped she could offer them a chance at recovery.
And Gwendolyn often did just that.
She treated each patient with patience. As noon approached, she massaged her stiff neck and reopened the calling system.
“Patient number twenty, Claude Lopez.”
The automated voice of the system rang out, and Gwendolyn froze
She got to her feet involuntarily. The name wasn’t unfamiliar to her, but with so many people sharing names, it couldn’t possibly be the person she was thinking of
Claude was hooked up to tubes and machines, so he wouldn’t be risked by the Lopez family during a hospital visit.
“Patient number twenty, Claude Lopez. Please proceed to Dc Gwendolyn Quigley in the Rehabilitation Department, the automated voice repeated.
Suddenly, the corridor erupted in noise. The rumble of wheels echoed as two guards in black suits pushed a hospital bed into the clinic. “Patient number twenty is here.” Magnolia walked in.
“Dr. Quigley, please take a look at my brother,” Magnolia said coolly
The corridor was packed with onlookers. It was a spectacle to see someone bring a critical patient to see a holistic doctor.
Gwendolyn pursed her lips and looked at Claude on the rudimentary hospital bed, “Ms. Lopez, Claude is extremely weak. He shouldn’t be jostled about like this. I recommend you take him to the ICU immediately.”
Magnolia’s eyes welled up, but her gaze remained cold.
She followed Selina’s advice and said, “We’ve followed the hospital’s procedures and booked an appointment. You’re a disciple of a great doctor and surely you won’t turn away a patient. He’s just another patient to you, but he’s my family”
“Dr. Quigley, please see to his care. Whatever the outcome, we, the Lopez family, won’t hold you accountable.”
Her words put Gwendolyn on the spot
Unaware of the full story, a bystander’said, “Dr. Quigley, please take a look. Maybe the old ways have a cure. They’re desperate, bringing in someone in such a state. No one will blame you if you can’t help.”
The underdog always gamers more sympathy. After all, wasn’t it a doctor’s duty to try to heal?
Gwendolyn clenched her fists tightly, her legs felt as heavy as lead, and her eyes trembled slightly.
