Chapter 267
Chapter 267
“Spill it Gwendolyn jabbed the acupuncture needle with a precision that sent shivers down Candy’s spine.
Trembling, Candy’s voice barely made it above a whisper, “If Seline threatened to end it all, would you leave Howard?”
Candy, stuck in the middle, felt like a fence–sitter caught in a storm. Selina was her ride–or–die friend, and yet, she depended on Gwendolyn’s healing hands. Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
Did Selina put you up to this?” Gwendolyn’s cool gaze was unsettling.
Ashamed, candy looked down, “No, it’s just… me asking. Selina’s got this dark cloud hanging over her, and without Howard, she says sheli just… crumble. I’m scared of losing her…”
Sometimes Gwendolyn envied Selina.
Friends who would go to the ends of the earth for her.
A family who treated her like a precious gem.
Memories with Howard that dated back to their carefree youth.
Gwendolyn’s voice was icy, “What makes you think she can use her life to threaten me? Because I’m a doctor, everyone thinks they can manipulate me with threats of death?”
“Candy, if ten Selinas dropped dead before me, I wouldn’t divorce Howard for any of them.”
Candy’s heart sank, “I get it. Selina said the same, actually. She mentioned something left behind at the Chadwick estate, something she wants as a final keepsake.”
When Selina had spoken, she made Candy promise not to bring it up if Howard was around.
But when Candy arrived at the Chadwick estate, Howard was out; only Gwendolyn was there. Perhaps Gwendolyn seemed more approachable than Howard.
Taking a deep breath, Gwendolyn asked, “What is it? I’ll fetch it.”
“It’s in the studio upstairs, bottom shelf of the cabinet, Candy’s eyes darted around nervously. “Maybe I should get it. It’s not the kind of thing you should see.”
With a dismissive glance, Gwendolyn left the clinic and headed for the studio.
Pushing the door open, Gwendolyn had an inkling of what she might find. She opened the cabinet and found the box. Hesitantly, she lifted the lid and saw nude sketches.
The woman captured in the sketches was unapologetically seductive, her sensuality prominently displayed. Whether it was a profile view, frontal, or from behind, the lifelike details were meticulously captured from every angle.
It was Selina.
Gwendolyn remembered stumbling upon a blurry sketch in the studio long ago, wondering if it was a plaster model or a real person.
It turned out all of them were Selina.
Why were there nudes of Selina in Howard’s studio?
gas
A chill ran through Gwendolyn as her heart tightened, feeling as if it were ensnared by unyielding threads.
Biting her tongue, she tasted blood, clinging to her composure.
Gwendolyn gathered the sketches and brought them downstairs to Candy.
“Gwendolyn, I’m so sorry. Selina got admitted to the hospital, she couldn’t come herself, Candy said quiltily, “You saw them, didn’t you? That’s all in their past.”
“Candy” Gwendolyn’s voice was cold, “Did it ever occur to you why she specifically asked you to come? Why were you the one to step up at Honeysuckle Hollow? Who benefits and who suffers?”
Selina was like a parasitic worm, nauseating and clingy, constantly disturbing Gwendolyn’s peace.
Candy paused, her simple mind hadn’t considered that.
“Don’t let people use you as their pawn, Go home,” Gwendolyn said, drained.
She felt sick to her stomach with Selina’s maneuvers, and even though she tried to convince herself it was all history, maybe this was just another one of Selina’s games.
