Betrayal At The Altar

Chapter 738

Chapter 738

Rachel hooked her fingers around the bowstring. Abruptly, she swung around and pointed the arrow straight at Georgia. “Miss Walker, you have to accept your loss. Stand over there!”

Despite her casual tone, her words held a threatening quality.

She had never been patient with strangers, especially people she had no affinity with.

It had taken her a lot of patience to sit at the same table as Georgia and play her games.

However, not only did this woman maliciously speculate about her, but she also made up rumors about Rachel’s relationship with Blackhawk. She should be prepared to pay the price for enraging Rachel!

Georgia looked at the bow in Rachel’s hand. She felt as though her heart had been plunged into bone- chilling water. Her entire body was so cold that she was almost trembling. The color had long faded from her face, leaving her looking white as a sheet.

She knew that Rachel would not let her off. Since that was the case, she might as well go all out and bring Rachel down!

“Rachel Grey, do you think I’m a fool? You’re taking this opportunity to take revenge!” Georgia spat, repeating all that she had heard. “You realized I overheard that you used to be married to another man and decided to take this chance to kill me and silence me forever. But walls have ears, you know! How long did you think you could keep your dirty little secret from everyone?”

“You’re nothing more than a used good. Do you seriously think you can become the female head of the Jones family? Why don’t you look at yourself and see if you’re worthy of that position?”

Among the people present, only Thomas had been kept in the dark.NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.

He initially thought that David had been blinded by love. He had been blindsided enough by David’s announcement of his fiancée.

But to think that Rachel had been married before?

“It’s not up to you or me to decide that. Only David can make that decision.” Rachel raised an eyebrow. Lowering the bow, she gazed deeply at David and asked, “David, am I worthy?”

Her voice was very soft, but her tone clearly belied her belief, “I am worthy!”

David’s Adam apple bobbed. Looking at the peculiar expression on Rachel’s face, he felt a jolt in his heart. “Of course you are! You’re amazingly, extremely, perfectly worthy!”

“Is that so?” Rachel slowly turned her head and raised her eyebrows slightly. She looked at David and continued casually, “You’re of high birth, Mr. Jones. Don’t torture yourself because of me.”

No one present was more familiar with Rachel’s temperament than Jimmy and Landon.

Miss Grey was usually easy-going, but not everyone could withstand the heat of her fury.

Frankly, however, Rachel’s status as the Johnson family’s oldest daughter meant someone like David was out of her league.

Even though the Johnson family was as wealthy as a small nation, it was nothing compared to the Jones family’s wealth.

However, as long as David did not deny her, Rachel was the most worthy woman on earth for him.

Looking at the expression on Rachel’s face, David felt inexplicably guilty.

His eyebrows twitched slightly. He reached for Rachel’s hand and tried to appease her carefully. “It’s not torturous for me.”

His deep voice became gentle, with a hint of coaxing.

Rachel did not say anything and merely glanced at him.

David’s heart skipped a beat. Sizing up the expression on Rachel’s face, he suddenly assumed the role of the henpecked husband again. Hurriedly, he said, “You’re the one who will suffer if you stay with me.”

Upon hearing this, Georgia and Thomas looked like they had been struck by lightning. They stood rooted to the ground and stared at David and Rachel.

Was David crazy?

He knew that Rachel had been married before. How could he remain so indulgent instead of flaring up at her?

It wasn’t as though all the women on earth had died. Why did it have to be Rachel?

Besides, all Rachel had was a pretty face. What else was she good for?

How was she worthy of David Jones?

David who had such an impressive background!

He had won the genetic lottery by being born into the right family. Since he was a child, David had been raised by Old Mr. Jones’s side and personally taught by the man himself. Now, he had finally become the youngest head of the family in history.

It had only taken him one year since his ascension to calm the internal strife in the family. He even dealt brutally with the elders of the family who opposed him.

Even the Elders, who lorded over the major families, felt a little frightened of David.

With his background, a curl of his finger would send countless young socialites pouncing on him like moths drawn towards a flame.

Why did it have to be Rachel Grey?

“David, are you crazy?” Georgia stared daggers at Rachel’s face. Unable to bear it any longer, she finally spilled the words she had longed to say. “Please snap out of it! This woman has been married before. Let’s not even go into her dubious relationship with her ex-husband. On the sole basis of her past marriage, Old Mr. Jones would never let her marry into the family!”

The Jones family had a formidable reputation to keep up. How could they allow a once-married woman into the family?

Rachel’s low birth meant she could not enter Aureliana in this lifetime. If it wasn’t due to David’s protection, did she think the rest of them would even deign to look at her?

“Where did you hear that she was married to someone before?” David raised his eyes to look at Georgia. His gaze was cold, with a distinctively frosty quality. His voice was just as icy, like the wind in early spring that cut like a knife.

Georgia met his eyes. She felt as though a hand had been clamped over her heart, suffocating her. She couldn’t find her voice at all.

Jimmy/sighed softly and looked at Landon, signaling him not to be soft-hearted and do something stupid.

Landon had followed David for many years. He knew the latter’s temperament very well.

This man would only show his gentle side when facing Rachel.

Apart from that, he had never shown mercy to anyone else.

Rumor had it that David was cold, noble, and abstinent. He bewitched everyone with his soul-stirring appearance.

No one knew that under his perfect mask, he had ruthlessness, stubbornness, and cruelty engraved in his bones.

David stared at Georgia with a vicious look in his eyes. “Let me ask you again. Where did you hear that from?”

His voice was casual and cold, making one shudder.

Georgia thought she heard a few strings snap in her mind. Struggling to hold onto her last thread of sanity, she stammered, “She said it herself! I heard her admit to being married before with her own mouth!”

Seeing that she had turned her attention back to Rachel, David frowned. His eyes darkened slightly with rage.

“You sure know how to take things out of context, Miss Walker.” The corners of Rachel’s mouth curled into a gentle smile. She looked innocent and harmless, making it impossible to detect the anger swirling in her. However, her eyes were cold, like she was looking at a fish struggling in the mud. “It’s a pity that you walked off too quickly. Otherwise, you would have heard the rest of our conversation.”

When Georgia heard this, her heart sank. “What do you mean?”

Rachel looked at her indifferently. “It means that I did indeed wear a wedding dress and walk into the church. Unfortunately, the groom died on the way that day, and the wedding did not take place. Naturally, it can’t be considered a marriage.”

“Impossible!” Georgia cried instinctively. “I definitely heard the person say that you were married before. If you have nothing to hide, call them over to settle this right now!”
