Betrayal At The Altar

Chapter 746

Chapter 746

After the car stopped in front of the Johnson’s Mansion, Chris turned to look at Rachel, who was sitting motionless in the back seat. Chris kindly reminded her, “Miss Grey, we’re here.”

Rachel responded and turned to look at the imposing door of Johnson’s Mansion. She took a deep breath, opened the door, and got out of the car.

In the living room, the butler Mr. Chadwick was leading the other servants in cleaning.

When he saw Rachel returning, he smiled so much that his eyes narrowed into a slit. “Miss, you’re back.”

Rachel nodded slightly. “Where’s Grandpa?

“Mr. Johnson is in the garden,” said Mr. Chadwick.

Upon hearing this, Rachel went to the kitchen and busied herself for a while before carrying a tray and walking through the living room, along the corridor, and towards the garden.

At this moment, Old Mr. Johnson was listening to a little tune while playing with his pet bird, a Major Mitchell’s cockatoo perched on a stand.

Rachel had found the cockatoo to help Old Mr. Johnson pass the time, and it had been keeping him company for almost a decade now.

As if hearing footsteps behind him, Old Mr. Johnson’s movements with the bird paused for a moment. In the blink of an eye, everything returned to normal, and he let out a faint sigh. “Eagle, our relationship is still strong. Unlike some heartless people who refuse to even make a phone call for so many days.”

Rachel lowered her eyes in embarrassment.

She knew that Old Mr. Johnson was actually talking about her.

She cleared her throat and smiled. “Grandpa.”

“Ah, you’re back.” Old Mr. Johnson suddenly turned around and his face lit up with a smile. It was a far cry from the grumbling old man he had been just moments before when he deliberately embarrassed Rachel.

Rachel walked forward and handed a coffee to Old Mr. Johnson. “Try it.”

Old Mr. Johnson sat on the rattan chair and reached out to take the

cup. He looked Rachel up and down. “Why do I feel that you’ve lost a lot of weight after going out?”

“Is that so?” Rachel reached out to touch his face and casually made up an excuse. “Maybe because I don’t like those foods there.”

She could not say that it was because she had not slept well for the past few days,

Hearing this, Old Mr. Johnson sighed deeply. “Rae–Rae, it’s not that I want to criticize you, but why do you always work so hard? Even if the company doesn’t have you. it will still operate. Instead of working so hard, it’s better to stay at home and keep me company. The Johnson family doesn’t lack money. It’s more than enough to support you!”

“Grandpa, sometimes working hard isn’t all about earning money.” Rachel held Old Mr. Johnson’s arm and leaned on his shoulder obediently. “Everyone is born with responsibilities and missions. Even if I

don’t work hard, I will use other ways to realize my value in life. Working hard to earn money is just one of the ways to fulfill it.”

When Old Mr. Johnson heard this, he smiled helplessly and said, “You always have so many reasons.”

The two of them leaned against the rattan chair and looked at the sun in the distance until sunset.

In the evening, Tom’s family came back for dinner with Adrian.

At the dining table, Lucas was like a shrimp peeler and had placed all the peeled shrimp in front of Rachel. He said, “Hurry up and eat. After you finish eating, I will take you out to play.”

“Playing, playing, playing! All you ever think about is playing!” Eleanor scolded as she kicked Lucas with her foot. Her eyes were full of warning. “Rae–Rae has worked so hard for so long, why won’t you let her rest? Taking her out to play at this late hour is not safe for a young girl like her.”

Lucas pursed his lips and muttered in a low voice, “Have you forgotten who your child is?”

“You’re all my children,” Eleanor said as she handed the bowl of chicken soup to Rachel. “Rae–Rae, quickly try this. I’ve stewed this chicken soup for more than three hours. There’s also a lot of nourishing good stuff inside.”

Rachel smiled. “Thank you, Eleanor.” Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

As everyone ate and chatted, they brought up the topic of the previous generation studying abroad.

Rachel suddenly thought of something and asked, “Eleanor, I remember you saying that you were classmates with my mother and did the overseas study. procedures together. Where did you go?”

Eleanor blurted out, “Ausmania.”

Rachel stirred the chicken soup with a spoon and smiled. “So it’s Ausmania. I thought it was Ombrica.”

Hearing this, Old Mr. Johnson and Tom looked at each other secretly.

Tom frowned and said, “Why? Do you want to study abroad?”

“I don’t plan to,” Rachel said. “I just happened to see a photo of my mother on this business trip. Although the photo is very vague, I guess it should be her.”

As she spoke, she took out the phone and found the photo that Vulture had given her and handed it to Tom.

When Tom saw the photo, he frowned slightly. “They do look a little similar, but I don’t think that’s her.”

As he spoke, he handed the photo to Old Mr. Johnson.

Old Mr. Johnson also thought they just looked a bit similar.

Rachel took the phone back and said nothing.

She had observed very carefully just now. Old Mr. Johnson and Tom had some inexplicable resistance towards this photo.

Or rather, the photo made them think of someone else or something. That was why they tried to deny the photo.

It seemed that solving this mystery was not as simple as she had imagined.

After dinner, Rachel and Lucas went to the gaming room to play games.

“Where did you get that photo?” After ending a game, Lucas picked up a bottle of beer, opened it, and handed it to Rachel.

Rachel took the beer. “Do you think the person in the photo is my mother?”

“Isn’t that so?” Lucas asked. “Didn’t you see the expression on my father’s face? He’s clearly lying through his teeth.”

Rachel did not say anything, but she agreed very much.

However, she could not understand what Old Mr. Johnson and Tom were hiding.

“Actually, I suspect…” She pondered for a moment and slowly said, “My mother went to Aureliana.”

Hearing this, Lucas was stunned. He immediately denied it. “How is that possible? Aureliana has a strict system. Unless you accept an invitation and are allowed to -enter the territory, it’s impossible.”

Otherwise, Aureliana would not have been known as “mysterious” all these years.

“This is exactly what I can’t figure out.” Rachel drank the beer in frustration. “Forget it, I won’t think about it anymore.”

With that, she stood up and left.

“Where are you going?” Lucas asked subconsciously.

Rachel looked at him expressionlessly. “Going back to sleep, of course.”

She wanted to sleep soundly tonight.

After she returned to her room to wash up, she lay on the bed.

Her body was clearly very tired and her brain was dizzy, but she could not fall asleep on the bed.

She knew that she missed someone’s embrace,

Rachel turned over and faced the ceiling above her head with a faint sigh.

“Habit is a dreadful thing, she thought to herself.

She had only spent a few days with him, yet she had become so dependent on

him.

As she was thinking, her phone on the table suddenly vibrated.
