Chapter 74
Chapter 74
Sofia’s POV
Our eyes locked and my lips fell open for a few seconds until he broke the eye contact and lifted his
phone which was in his hand and placed it against his ear– which was finally when I stared down at my
feet and puffed out a harsh breath, knowing there was no way in hell I’d be able to actually say what I
had planned to come say in here in the first place.
“I’ll see you later.” Luca’s voice washed around me and I glanced back up to find him watching me
while still on the phone.
“Fuck off, James.” He said with a small snort and I noticed the way a small smoke tugged at the side of
his lips before he finally pulled the phone away from his ear and placed it on the big desk, and I jolted
on noticing that he was already done with with whoever it was that he was speaking to on the phone.
My finger was still on the door knob and I knew just how slow and dumb I must be appearing to him
right now.
I am so pathetic.
I pulled my finger off the door knob and rubbed the sweaty fingers against the side of my jeans as my
lips began to move.
“Um, I’m sorry to have disturb you,” The words slipped out of my lips on a small whisper and I turned
around and made to leave his office, feeling like I was going to sick.
“Stop right there.”
The moment those words washed over me, I find myself freezing in my tracks and shivering a little as
my blinked a couple of times.
“Close the door.” I heard Luca’s voice echo quietly around the office, but it was more than loud in my
ear and I found myself moving forward, my breath hitched in my throat as I placed my hands on the
door and pushed on it until it closed and clicked shut, shutting me into the office with Luca.
Just what had I gotten myself into this afternoon.
“Come here, Sofia.” His voice called out and the breath that had been hitched in my throat all stuttered
out as I turned around and found myself walking forward until I was standing before his desk, my eyes
glancing around different parts of the office and trailing over the paintings hanging on the wall without
registering what it was that was drawn in each painting.
“What did you need before?” He asked and I sucked my lower lip into my mouth, lowering my eyes to
stare at my feet. I lifted my head and my eyes locked with his for a few seconds before my heart
stuttered fearfully and I had averted my gaze with another hitch of my breath.
“Um, I-” I paused what I was about to say and pushed my hair out of my face with my sweaty fingers,
feeling my heart hammer nervously against the inside of my chest and the sides of my ribs due to how
nervous I was at this very moment.
“Look at me, Sofia.” He breathed out in a low voice and I found myself doing as he had ordered, my
breath hitching in my throat once again, embarrassed color flooding my cheeks.
“You were saying?” He asked once our eyes were locked together once again and his gray eyes, which
were framed with long curly eyelashes, stared deeply into my eyes. I averted my gaze away from his
for a second before returning my eyes back to his eyes on remembering that he had asked me to look
at him.
“I um, I wanted to thank-” I paused and bit on the side of my cheeks, knowing that I was going to not
end up speaking about my main reason for coming in here at the end of the day.
“I wanted to thank you for taking care of me and getting me a doctor last night, and um...” I trailed off
and ducked my head, color flooding my cheeks immediately in embarrassment on seeing a small smile
start for tug at the sides of Luca’s lips.
He was probably trying so hard to keep his laughter under check, he was most definitely trying not to
laugh at me and embarrass me further.
“You’re welcome.” His voice drifted into my ears and I glanced up immediately to stare up at him
immediately, his gray eyes sucking me in and digging into my heart with how intense his stare was.
I breathed out a small sigh and started to turn around to head back outside, since we were most
definitely done here.
After all, I had been unable to state my reasons for coming in here in the first place.
“Where are you going?” He asked and I paused in my tracks and pushed my hair out my face,
swallowing emptily and turning back around until I was staring at him once again.
“Um, outside?” I replied after a few minutes, the reply sounding more like a question.
“You didn’t state your actual reason for coming in here, Sofia.” He said after a few seconds and I felt
my eyes widened immediately, giving me away immediately that he was indeed right.
I lowered my head for a moment as a quiet ‘oh’ fell out of my lips.
“Would you like to sit down before starting to talk about it?” He asked after a little while and I shook my
head immediately, wondering why he was once again, proving some thoughts that I still had of him in
my head, wrong.
Why was he being so nice when I was obviously wasting his time for a stupid thing.
“What is it?” He asked once again, and this time, his voice now had that force which literally pulled on a
certain button in my head and I found myself puffing out another breath out which had been hitched in
my throat, about a moment ago.
“I, um, painting? I mean, um…” I started to say again before trailing off on realizing that I was only
rambling with nothing coherent coming out.
“Go on,” He urged and I nodded my head jerkily before trying to continue, and to hopefully make sense
this time.
“The painting, um, I–“ I started to say but trailed off suddenly when Luca stopped me with two simple
words.
“Breathe, Sofia.” I blinked once and again before allowing the air that had been trapped in my lungs to
slide out, my chest expanding a couple of times.
“You were saying?” He asked once again and I puffed out a deep breath, grateful that he was even
being this patient about it, and was still giving me more chances to say whatever it was that I wanted to
say.
Ok, this is it.
I am saying it right now.
“So I… um,” I started to say and paused for a quick second before continuing, staring pointedly at his
shoulder and refusing to look at his face, from fear of chickening out once I settle my eyes on his
intense eyes and other feature of his face that were just as intense as his eyes.
“I wanted to ask for your permission if it’s going to be alright with you if I start to um, paint.” I paused
and swallowed emptily before continuing, proud of myself that I had at least started talking about it
already. “Because um, it’s always lonely here and I felt like it would be good for me if I um, get
something to do like a hobby or something,” I paused and puffed out a huge breath, feeling my
heartbeat pound against my chest and my ribs.
Luca still hasn’t said a thing, neither had he interrupted into all what I had been saying, and so, I took it
as a good sign and continued after a minute. “It won’t Interfere with the duties I have to fulfill as a um,
wife.” I whispered the last word out, having no idea where that has come from. Luca facial expression
had changed at the mention of that last word and I felt myself flushing more in embarrassment as I
ducked my head even more.
“So, um… if I’d be given permission, I’d get lots of painting stuff and start work tomorrow, since
tomorrow is a Monday. I’d start watching tutorials tonigh–” I was in the middle of a sentence when Luca
had finally decided to speak, and he had choosen to cut into what I was saying.
“Tutorials? You’re just going to learn how to paint from scratch?” He asked and I felt my stomach
tightened up, knowing how absurd my plan had sounded in his ears.
“Um, yeah, yes.” I whispered in reply after hesitating and contemplating on either telling a lie and claim
to already have an idea of how it worked before, or coming clean. I had ended up deciding to come
clean because the thought of lying to Luca left a bitter, dreadful taste in the back of my throat.
“And you think you can get the hang of it by just watching tutorials online?” He asked and I bit on my
lips, knowing that he had a point since I had also thought about that same thing.
I nodded my head at him a couple of times and watched as he leaned on his chest and watched me
through slitted eyes.
“Alright, you have my permission. You can get a bunch of things you need and start painting.” He finally
said after a few minutes and I didn’t know when a wide smile had broken out on my face.
“Really?” I gushed out without thinking and flushed red in embarrassment before shaking my head and Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
correcting myself immediately.
“Sorry, um, I meant thank you so much, so very much.” I rephrased in a small voice, knowing the smile
was still spread out wide on my face and that my cheeks were still stained red.
“You’re welcome.”
“So um, I’ll need um, a room?” I paused and swallowed, looking at an empty spot on the desk as I
continued. “A room where I can have to myself just for painting, in case I make a mess while still
learning and trying to get a hang of it.”
