Emma, feeling the weight of her friends‘ stares, firmly set Maryann’s extravagant gift box on the table.
She faced Jada and Bonnie with a look of exasperation. “Please, don’t look at me like that. I’m not
planning to jump into another relationship. I’ve just escaped one, and that’s enough for now.”
The idea of entangling herself with someone else, especially so soon after her divorce from Alex, was
unthinkable to her. She cherished her newfound independence–running her own business, making her
own decisions.
Bonnie, still holding the box, looked at Emma skeptically. “But with Maxwell’s photo and now this, don’t
you think it seems… a bit too coincidental?”
Emma sighed, weary of the insinuations. “Coincidental or not, it’s irrelevant. I’m focusing on my
career now.”
Maryann, having watched the exchange, intervened. “I understand, Emma. But, you know, these
wouldn’t hurt. They’re just profiles, after all.”

She then produced two smaller, red velvet boxes from her bag and slid them across the table to Emma.
“These might be more to your liking–some exquisite rubies and a sapphire ring. They reminded me of
you.”
Emma opened the boxes and was momentarily taken aback by the beauty of the jewels. Maryann
really did have an eye for fine things. The rubies glinted with a deep, captivating red, and the sapphire
ring was elegantly understated.
“Thank you, Maryann. They’re beautiful,” Emma said, her voice softening. She couldn’t deny Maryann’s
thoughtful gesture.
The conversation shifted as Jada broached a new topic. “So, the twins are coming back to town soon,
huh? York always had a thing for you back in school. Maybe now’s the chance to explore that?”
Emma chuckled at the suggestion. “Desmond and I are just old friends. Let’s not complicate things.”
Bonnie joined in, her tone playful. “Well, if you won’t consider Desmond, how about Alex again? With
all this buzz, it’s like the universe is pushing you two back together.”
Emma shook her head, amused yet firm. “No, Bonnie. Alex and I are over. That chapter of
closed.”

The evening continued in a lighter vein, with the friends reminiscing about old times and celebrating
Maryann’s recent film success. But as they were leaving, an unexpected turn of events occurred. A
paparazzo snapped a photo of Bonnie and Maryann leaving together, sparking rumors of them living
together. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
The next day, the story exploded online. Jada showed Emma the viral post, and they both shared a
resigned chuckle. “Bonnie’s going to have a field day with this,” Emma remarked, half–amused, half-
concerned.

Meanwhile, Lillian, fuming over the rumors and her thwarted showbiz dreams, stormed into her mother
Michelle’s room. “Mom, have you seen this? Emma’s everywhere! And now Maryann too?”
Michelle, equally flustered, nodded. “I saw, Lillian. It’s all very convenient for Emma,
isn’t it?”
Lillian, pacing the room, was a bundle of nerves. “I’m sick of being sidelined! Emma and now
Maryann… They’re taking over everything!”
Michelle, trying to calm her daughter, suggested, “Maybe we can use this situation to our advantage.
Let’s plan something at the charity gala Emma is attending. It could be our chance to turn the tables.”
Lillian stopped pacing, her eyes lighting up with a mixture of anger and determination. “Yes, let’s show
them. Emma won’t know what hit her.”
As they plotted, the dynamics of their relationships with Emma and the Smirnoffs family came to the
fore, revealing a tangled web of emotions, rivalries, and unspoken desires. The charity gala was
shaping up to be more than just a social event–it was becoming the stage for a dramatic showdown.
