Chapter 13: Apologize
Chapter 13: Apologize
Gavin finished eating tomatoes and egg noodles without saying a word. I waited expectantly for his
praise. I figured this guy was used to big feasts, so such a simple thing should not surprise him. But he
said nothing from start to finish, even after the bowl of noodles was completely eaten.
Seeing him putting down his chopsticks, I couldn't help but ask, "How is it?"
Gavin replied thoughtfully, "It's not bad."
"Hum, Mr. Stone, if you do not like it, you can say so directly. Do not worry, I will not make the same
mistake in the future."
Gavin said, "You owe me so much. Should I be touched when I eat your noodles?"
He was always said things that I had no right to rebut, "No. You don' have too of course. I promise to
repay you kindness until I die."
"You don't have to die for me, just be loyal to me."
After we talked for a while, Gavin helped me wash the dishes. Too many things happened today. I was
so shocked that I could not keep up.
Before Gavin left, I said, "By the way, your necklace is still with me. Wait a minute, I'll get it."
Gavin said, "That's not necessary. Since I've already given it to you, keep it."
"How can I do that? It's precious. You cannot keep her, but you can keep her jewelry."
Of course, Gavin understood what I meant. He looked back at me meaningfully and said, "She's gone.
What's the point of keeping her jewelry?"
"It's not like that..." I tried to say.
"You can keep it if you want. If you really don't want it, you can just donate it. I have no objections."
Then Gavin left without looking back. I did not even have a chance to say goodbye.
I opened the box and looked at the shiny and glittering necklace. I thought, "The love of these rich
people is really high class. They can discard such a valuable thing so randomly. After that, I put it away
safely. Maybe one day Gavin would want it again. It's hard to say."
The next day he went to work as usual. At lunch time my colleagues told me that someone was looking
for me and they came in a large group of people.
I stared in wonder and went down the stairs. As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, I saw that the
leader of the group, Layne. I quickly realized what was going on and was about to go upstairs, but
Layne stopped me from behind.
Layne said, "Darcey! Wait!"
I had no choice but to find him. His pregnant wife came, along with the whole family. I had never seen
them, so I just wanted to finish and let them go.
"What's do you want?" I asked.
Layne said, "Darcey, it was my fault for what happened that day. Please let her go."
As I looked at Layne, my heart softened. The person who had hit me was his wife. He was only trying Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
to help me at the time. Now that I think about it, the situation was a disaster. I said, "I have no intention
of chasing this further. You can go back and you do not have to come back."
"Darcey! Please, wait for me!"
I looked back and saw that his wife was about to lose temper. I guessed it's because he called me so
intimately. In fact, I was not used to him calling me that. I said, "What is it this time?"
"Here is a check for a million. I know you are desperate for money, but I can only give you so much.
You can take it. But please let it go, let my family go. I know it's wrong for my wife to do this to you, but
she's still pregnant..."
When I heard that, I wanted to say, "I am pregnant too." How could she not be gracious to me? Looking
at Layne, he must have been taught by someone. It must be Gavin, without thinking.
