Capture Her Heart After Marriage

Chapter 48 The Chi Family's Past

Chapter 48 The Chi Family's Past

"Yes, that's what Ms. Chi said," the nurse said, pointedly not looking at Aunt Song.

Alexia smiled. "Okay, you can leave now."

"Huh?" the nurse asked in confusion.

"I'm not going to see her. Look at me now. I can’t get out of bed." Alexia lifted her left hand, which was in a sling. “And even if I could, I wouldn’t want to.” Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.

She had nothing to say to Evelyn. Especially with everything that happened the last time, still fresh in her mind. Evelyn was a black-hearted lotus and felt it was better for her to avoid it, lest something even worse happen.

The nurse didn't expect Alexia to refuse so simply and was at a loss for words. "Ms. White, I know this is very difficult for you, but Ms. Chi said that she must see you, otherwise..."

"Enough!" Aunt Song couldn't stand it anymore and cut the nurse off as she moved to stand protectively in front of Alexia. "Otherwise what? Otherwise, Ms. Chi is a human being and Ms. Alexia isn’t? If Ms. Chi wants to see Ms. Alexia, Ms. Alexia must see her. What kind of reasoning is this?"

Alexia nodded in agreement with everything Aunt Song was saying, tired of Evelyn always being in charge.

"No..." the caregiver responded, so anxious that he was on the verge of tears, and hastily waved his hand to explain. "I didn't say that, that’s what Ms. Chi said."

"I don't care who said what!" Aunt Song said, taking a step closer to the nurse and waving her finger in his face. "You go back and tell her why Ms. Alexia isn’t coming over. Ms. Chi wants to see Ms. Alexia, then she can come down herself!”

"Ms. Chi has just had surgery and can't come over," the nurse muttered in a low voice, scowling.

Aunt Song let out an exasperated laugh. "Ms. Chi has just had her operation, but Alexia didn’t? Don't forget, it was Ms. Alexia who selflessly underwent her operation to save Ms. Chi’s life! If it weren’t for Ms. Alexia, Ms. Chi may not even still be alive! Ms. Chi should be groveling to Ms. Alexia, not demanding she put herself at risk for petty requests!"

"That..." the nurse started, before closing his mouth, having the sense to not say anything else.

Aunt Song pushed the nurse toward the door in disgust. "Okay, okay, enough of this! Hurry up and get out of here! Ms. Alexia won’t be leaving! If Ms. Chi wants to talk to Ms. Alexia, then she better call or come down herself! If she doesn’t, then I guess they won’t be talking!"

Bang!

Aunt Song slammed the door behind the nurse after shoving them out of the room.

Aunt Song clapped her hands and turned back to Alexia. "What the hell was that? You think Ms. Chi thought she was a princess the way she was demanding you go and meet her."

"Aunt Song." Alexia stared at the housekeeper, dumbfounded at what just happened, and couldn't help but give a thumbs up, "You're amazing, you got rid of him so easily."

Aunt Song laughed, "When dealing with people like that, you have to be crisp and clear, especially when they’re sent by that Chi woman. You have to be forceful, otherwise, they’ll walk all over you. That woman isn’t a good person to deal with."

"Yes, I know what you mean…" Alexia lamented.

"Oh?" Aunt Song asked, "Did something happen between you and her?"

"Well, there's a bit of friction."

Alexia gave a brief account of what happened the day she and Evelyn met, downplaying Chaim’s reaction.

After hearing what happened, Aunt Song was so angry that she slapped the table. "What a rotten heart! No one is more ungrateful than her. And then pretending to be harmless on top of it all! It's disgusting! Only Mr. Lancaster can't see through her true face."

The corners of Alexia's mouth twitched and her heart raced in agreement with Aunt Song.

After Alexia’s observation of everything that happened, it was clear that Evelyn, in Chaim's eyes, was completely different from what she truly was.

"Ms. Alexia, you should stay away from that Chi woman in the future." Aunt Song poured a cup of water and handed it to Alexia'.

Alexia realized she was thirsty and took a few sips of water. "What do you mean?"

Aunt Song seemed to be on Alexia’s side with this and Alexia hoped to get more advice. After all, it seemed like Evelyn was in more danger than she thought.

"Yes, stay as far away as you can!" Aunt Song looked at Alexia with a serious expression. "That woman was terribly possessive back when she was with Mr. Lancaster. It took Master Lancaster a long time to get them to break up, and now that you're married to Mr. Lancaster, I'm worried that she'll do something to you because she's not willing to lose what she believes is hers."

"So that's how it is." Alexia lifted nodded in understanding. "Don't worry, Aunt Song, I know what to do. But I have to admit that I'm a little curious about why Grandpa wanted them to break up."

"It's not because that woman is ungrateful, though it should’ve been," Aunt Song bristled. "I can't tell you much about it as I wasn’t given the pleasure of knowing myself, but she left him behind when he saved her life. I guess it's a genetic problem, she inherited from her mother."

"Her mother?" Alexia blinked, becoming far more interested. "Aunt Song, will you tell me about her?"

"Yes." Aunt Song put down her glass of water. "It started more than twenty years ago. At that time the Chi family was just getting rich, Stefan’s wife wasn’t yet Evelyn's mother. Evelyn's mother was originally just a mistress who squeezed out of the main house and married into the Chi family when she became pregnant with Evelyn."

"Then wouldn't Evelyn be an illegitimate daughter?" Alexia's mouth opened wide in surprise.

Aunt Song nodded. "Stefan and his first wife started a business together. Once he started seeing some success, Stefan also started to seek excitement elsewhere, finally falling in love with a female university student his wife sponsored. That female university student was Evelyn's mother."

"Then what happened?"

"Evelyn's mother wasn’t willing to be a mistress, so she showed up on Mr. Chi’s doorstep with her belly bulging to provoke Mr. Chi’s wife. However, at that time the then Ms. Chi was also pregnant. It turned out they were both due around the same time. I’m not sure what happened, but Mr. Chi went to the hospital with two bodies."

"That's so scary." Alexia's body trembled from the story, goosebumps rising all over her body.

Aunt Song lamented. "Back then, this was a big deal, everyone in the upper circles knew about it, and the Chi family's reputation was in ruined as a result. Evelyn's mother even suffered from depression and died a few years after giving birth to Evelyn."

"It's really the deep waters of the gentry then," Alexia stammered.

Buzz!

Alexia’s phone vibrated with a phone call.

Aunt Song picked up the phone and glanced at it, handing it to Alexia in surprise. "Ms. Alexia, it's Mr. Lancaster."

"Chaim?" Alexia frowned as she took the phone, her mood falling.

Aunt Song had just sent Evelyn's nurse away only a few minutes before, and now Chaim was calling. It had to be more than a coincidence.

Could it be that Evelyn realized Alexia wasn’t going to listen and told Chaim something Alexia had done? Just like last time...

Thinking about that, Alexia ran her finger across the green icon on the screen and tensed. "Hello?"

"Alexia, did you scold Eve?" Chaim's clear, cold, low voice came over, clearly seeking punishment.

Alexia mentally lashed out, but instead bit her lip and responded, "I didn't scold her, I haven't even seen her today."

"But Eve told me that she sent someone to your room to thank you, and you scolded her for being ungrateful," Chaim said in a cold voice.

"I didn't!" Alexia bit her lower lip in exasperation. "She sent someone to take me to her room, saying she wanted to talk. No one said anything about thanking me at all!"

"Alexia, I thought you knew better than to lie?" Chaim's voice was even colder, clear displeasure in it.

Alexia froze. "Lying?"

"You said Eve asked you to go over to see her, but we both know you wouldn’t be able to and she would never ask such a thing! What the hell are you doing targeting Eve so much?"

"I—"

"Whatever!" Chaim interrupted her impatiently. "Alexia, I want you to recuperate in the hospital. Don’t cause any trouble and don't go bullying Eve!"

Chaim hung up and Alexia looked at her blacked-out phone, completely speechless.

Don't go bullying Evelyn, could life be any more ironic?

Who was bullying who?
