Chapter 1056
Pharaoh's expression remained as stern as before.
Nina hadn't expected to hear such devastating news. How could she possibly offer comfort, or what could she say? This just wasn't the right time.
Micah hadn't anticipated this outcome either. He had been reassuring Arin all along, but now there was nothing that could be done to save her. Micah felt a deep sense of guilt as he walked over to her bedside.
"I'm sorry. You risked your life to deliver critical information to me, and I couldn't save you," he said, his voice heavy with remorse.
Arin, lying on the bed and ravaged by the poison in her body, still managed to force a smile when she saw Micah approach.
"It's nothing special. Even if I hadn't told you, you would have found out eventually," she said. She did not want him to feel burdened by guilt. Everything she did was of her own free will.
Micah's heart felt as though it was being squeezed by an invisible hand. Arin was in this condition because of him. If there was nothing he could do, he would be forced to watch her die. But Micah did not want her to leave this world with regrets.
"I'm powerless to cure you, but don't worry. I won't give up on you. The bounty I posted on the dark web is still active. If nothing works out, I promise, I'll avenge you. Is there anything you wish for before then?" Micah asked, his gaze filled with determination.
Arin knew that Micah and Freya were planning to marry. She did not want to make things harder for him, nor did she want to dampen his spirits before his wedding. So she kept smiling.
"Teacher Micah, knowing you did everything you could and being able to have you here with me is more than enough for me. I wish you and Miss Freya a long and happy life together, with many children."
Her blessing was sincere, and Micah hadn't expected that even in her final moments, Arin would still be concerned about not burdening him. She had once lashed out at Nina because of him, and now...
"Arin, you're a good person. If there's a next life, I hope you find someone who loves you deeply and you can spend that life together," Micah said, his voice thick with emotion.
Arin shook her head weakly. "But I don't want a next life."
Loving someone who could not love her back in this life was painful enough.
With a wry smile, she thought, "Another life? No, when you die, you're just gone. There's no next life."
Micah stayed by Arin's side, while Freya felt a
wave of unease. If Arin
hadn't been poisoned and haw Arinet
continued to fight, she would have been her strongest rival.
Could she call herself lucky? The words stuck in her throat. How could she feel fortunate when Arin was on the brink of death?
Nina noticed Freya's troubled
expression and walked over, gently patting her on the shoulder. "Freya don't overthink it. My brother's feelings for Arin are just gratitude. Plus, we knew her before all of this."
QUMS
It was only out of a sense of familiarity and past acquaintance that he stayed by Arin's side.
Freya took a deep breath, then after a pause, she finally shared her thoughts with Nina. "I know that. I actually we Arin some thanks. If it weren't for her, your brother might not have fully understood his feelings, and he wouldn't be so eager to marry me now.
"Even though I understand all of this, I still hope she gets better," Freya added softly.
This was a matter of life and death. How could she possibly think or say that Arin's death was for the best? She wasn't that kind of person.
Freya was kind and understanding, and her compassion was one of the reasons she was so well-suited to be by Micah's side.
With her strong character and generous heart, she was the ideal partner for him, a true first lady in the eyes of the people in Yaren Tribe.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
