Chapter 978
After his conversation with Remi, Nash headed straight to find Nina and their child.
However, before he could reach them, he suddenly collapsed. The loud thud startled the patrolling guards. Given the importance of his and Nina's presence in the Yaren Tribe, the guards immediately rushed him to Pharaoh's lab. Seeing Nash unconscious, Nina's heart pounded with anxiety. She grabbed one of the guards, demanding, "What happened?"© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
The Yaren Tribe's security was airtight, so how could this have happened? Could it be an old injury flaring up?
"Miss Ivy, he suddenly collapsed. We're not sure what caused it," one of the guards replied.
Pharaoh stepped forward. "Let me take a look."
After examining Nash, Pharaoh's eyes widened in shock. "Nash has been poisoned. It must have been that envoy from Salterra."
"What?" Nina's face turned pale.
The envoy from Salterra, sent by Dominic, was clearly there to poison Nash, forcing him to return and submit to Dominic's demands. The realization hit Nina hard. Life rarely allows for perfect outcomes. Nina, her voice strained, asked, "Can you wake him up?"
Pharaoh nodded. He and Wilfred worked tirelessly for over three hours before Nash finally regained consciousness. But he was extremely weak, his face ghostly pale.
Pharaoh exchanged a glance with Wilfred, and they both left the room, giving Nash and Nina some privacy.
Nina held Nash's hand tightly, her emotions overwhelming her as she clung to him "Pharaoh just told me you've been poisoned, Nash. It couldn't have happened here. It must have been that envoy from Salterra. Your father wants you to give in and return. Maybe maybe you should go back?"
She paused, the weight of the situation sinking in. Pharaoh had been at odds with Nash before, but now he was genuinely helping them. If Pharaoh had wanted to harm Nash, he would not have chosen this critical moment. It could not have been Pharaoh.
Nash remained silent, lost in thought as he considered Nina's words. She was right. His movements within the Yaren Tribe were limited, and if he were to be poisoned, it would have happened long ago. Pharaoh would not strike at such a crucial time, especially after trying to mend things. That left only one
possibility-Remi.
He had only come into close contact with her. The faint, lingering scent he had noticed on her could have been the delivery method.
It all made sense now. She must have been sent as a bait to deliver the poison.
Nash refused to let go. "Nina, I promised you I'd stay by your side, that I'd never leave you. Please, don't push me away."
At this moment, Nash was at his most vulnerable. He had served his country, protected his family's legacy, and now, all he wanted was something as simple as staying with the woman he loved. Yet, even this seemed out of reach. "Nash, I'm not trying to push you away, but you need to face reality. Look at the situation. If they can reach you here and poison you, there's no limit to what they might do next."
She paused, her voice trembling slightly. "I'm worried you'll be caught in the middle of all this. If your father is willing to let me stay with our child, then maybe you should go back." If a choice had to be made, she was ready to let him go. Nina's priority was their child's future. She had spent seven years by Nash's side. Now, it was time to dedicate herself fully to their child.
