Chapter 49
Aston’s eyes narrowed as he tumed to face me, a perfect mix of frustration and determination etched across his face and I started to re think my words, Mara was a topic that nothing good was going to come out of discussing, especially not for me. His looked morphed into an annoyed one and I felt tempted to hide under the bed but there was no running away from him, he would find me no matter where I hid. He had proven that when he managed to save me.
He stalked towards me, his brows creased and his hands balled into fists beside him like he intended to beat me up.
His voice dropped an octave, heavy with accusation. “You have no right to judge Mara, Kira. She’s been by my side, loyal and unwavering. Her position in my life and in this pack is secure.” He said and I rolled my eyes, earning a glare from him that made me cower in fear but only for a few seconds.
I stared to speak but he cut me off. “I don’t know where your hatred for her stemmed from and I don’t care either even if I am really sure that it’s most likely from jealousy but what I need you to understand is that you’ll never measure up to her no matter what you do or think you are.” He didn’t stutter as he spoke neither did he pause to think about it.
The words stung, but I refused to back down, “I don’t hate Mara I retorted, defiance mingling with a tinge of sadness. “All I feel for her is pity. Being with someone like you….” My voice trailed off when I spotter the look on his face. I could not be the only one to get hurt out of this conversation. He needed to feel what he did to me even if it was only a little bit. I couldn’t let myself get bumt alone.
His brow furrowed, a low growl rumbling in his chest as he took a menacing step forward. Before I could react, h shot out, his fingers wrapping around my throat as he slammed me against the wall.
his hand
Lgasped, my heart hammering in my chest as I stared into his eyes, wide with shock. “Say that again,” he growled, his face mere inches from mine. “I dare you Kira, say that again.” He threatened.
My breath caught in my throat, and I swallowed hard, unable to look away from his intense gaze. Our faces were so close I could feel the warmth of his breath on my skin, sending a shiver down my spine. The tension between us cr**ed like electricity, the air thick with words that we would both rather not say and memories that would gladly choose not to speak of but never to erase.
His breath smelled good, like really good and I got lost just staring at his eyes. I had seen them a million times before but I realized that I had never truly seen them. They looked so beautiful and they looked like they a porthole to his deep dark heart.
My heart was beating fast because my eyes had moved from staring at his eyes to staring at his lips in the same way he was staring at mine, like I wanted to f**g eat it. I wanted to push him away but not as much as I wanted to pull him closer and slam my lips against his. My mouth watered for the taste of his lips. I wanted it, I needed it.
Just as abruptly as he’d grabbed me, Aston released his grip and stepped back, raking his fingers through his hair and I tried really hard to mask the disappointment that I was feeling with anger. His eyes hardened, his voice cold and decisive as he broke the silence.
“I’ve made my choice. Mara will be my Luna and my chosen mate. Forget any fantasies you’ve concocted about being mated to me or becoming the Luna of this pack. The Moon Goddess’s game won’t sway me. No former mate of my enemy will ever be my mate.”
His words cut deep, really deep and I was mad at the unfairness of his assumptions, “You think I wanted this?” I snapped, my voice rising in frustration. “You think I chose this connection, this burden? You think that I wanted to be mate to a man that has brought me absolutely nothing other than pain and suffering? The man that jailed me and whipped me at will. The man that stripped me of every ounce of self respect that I had left. The man that had the chance to save my only shot at happiness and did not. Did you think that was the kind of man I wanted to be mated to a second time? After suffering in the hands of one bad man, you think I desired an even worse one.”
I swallowed hard and tried to fight the tears that was stinging my eyes, all he did was watch me condescendingly and I just wanted to punch him in the f***g face and watch him fall to the ground.
“You need to get off your f**g high horse, okay? This union disgusts me twice as much as it disgusts you and it would be more than a pleasure to me to never speak about it and to completely ignore it.” I let him know and I saw the annoyed look on his face but I couldn’t care less.
My chest was heaving when I was done speaking and it felt like had just gotten a big pile of emotions off my chest. It felt so nice to let all that out. All that I had to wait for was a response. Judging but the annoyed look on his face, I knew it would not be a good one but I was still glad to have been able to let it all ou
Ignoring my outburst, Aston moved to leave the room. My jaw dropped to the ground. I didn’t know if I was annoyed if relieved by his response. I thought about what I would want from him before he walked out on me completely and the only thing I could think about was my freedom. I did not want to spend the rest of my life locked up as his slave. I needed to get out this house, this pack. To find my place in life, seeing as it obviously wasn’t here with him.
Desperate for a glimmer of hope, I called after him. “If you refuse to accept me as your mate, then at least free me from this captivity as a sign of our bond. Let me go, Aston, it is the least you could do for me. It will not cost you anything too. You already hate me and can not stand me so it’s going to be a win-win situation for both of us. You get rid of this disgusting face that you do not want to see and I’ll be on my merry way. All you need to do is to say the word.”
He paused, glancing back at me with a sneer. “I don’t give a damn about our supposed bond. You’re my slave, Kira, and you’ll remain that way. I’ll never set you free. Do not try to get cheeky with me because the goddess is playing a stupid trick on the both of us. You do not get to ask me for things and I am not obliged to give you anything either so maintain your status quo if you don’twant any problems from me.”
His final words hung in the air as he stormed out of the room, leaving me alone with my treacherous thoughts. As the quiet settled around me, I could feel my hatred for Aston growing, consuming me like a flame. I wanted to wrap my hands around his f**g neck or stab him in the eye with a pitch fork or something. I needed him to feel intense pain that would rip him apart until he could not feel a thing anymore.Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
After hours of tossing and turning. I finally found sleep and as I slept, my dreams were filled with visions of Aston and me in the garden. It suddenly became a nightmare with him in it, I didn’t know what he was doing yet because I was too busy taking in his features. He looked particularly good looking, maybe because it was a dream.
In the dream, he held me close, tenderly kissing my head as he placed a crown upon it. I jolted awake, my heart racing as the dream lingered in my mind. I traced my hands on my lips, a small part of me willing for the dream to continue so I could do all the dirty things I wanted to his soft lips.
The stark contrast between the gentleness of the dream and the harsh reality of our relationship only deepened my confusion. I didn’t know what the hell was going on with me.
