Chapter 68
She had constantly tried to convince herself that Neil wasn’t showing favoritism and that he had been
supportive of her since her mother’s passing.
However, the kindness he extended to her paled in comparison to the adoration he showered on
Cristina’s kids.
The fact that she was still burdened with the stress of buying a house while Neil readily gifted Glenn
Pennyfeather a multimillion-dollar mansion seemed absurd to Maja. Soon enough, Neil
and Cristina noticed her presence.
Cristina furrowed her eyebrows. “What are you doing here?”
Neil also turned to Maja, noticing a real estate agent in the same uniform standing beside her, feeling a
twinge of embarrassment.
‘Maja, are you looking for a house?”
Disappointment surged within Maja, but her face remained impassive, “Yes, my apartment was
burgled, so I’m looking for a safer place.”
Neil hesitated for a moment, guilt gnawing at him as he recalled Maja living on her own all these years.
“Well…”
His words were abruptly interrupted by Cristina.
“Don’t play the victim in front of your father. I heard that Holden got you a wedding house worth tens of
millions. If you truly have nowhere to go, why don’t you just move there? It would bring you closer to
lan. You two are married, treat him well, and things will work out with your father.”
“Ms. Perkins.”
Maja shot Cristina a cold, warning glance.
“Even if I am playing the victim in front of my father, it’s none of your business. He can gift a mansion
worth millions to someone else’s son. Are you going to stop him from buying a house for his own
daughter? Plus, he didn’t say he was going to buy me a house, so what’s the rush?”
Cristina blushed, taken aback by Maja’s verbal onslaught.
Neil, caught in the middle, felt uneasy. He felt Maja was being a bit harsh. After all, Cristina was her
elder.
“She’s just being herself, don’t take it to heart. Which one do you like? I’ll buy it for you.”
He wanted to use the money to compensate for his guilt towards his daughter.
Maja smiled faintly, lowering her head, “No need, you and Ms. Perkins carry on. I’ll go elsewhere.
She didn’t fancy living in the same neighborhood as Glenn.
Nell was taken aback with a helpless expression on his face. Cristina, however, frowned.
“What’s your problem? You never considered us family anyway. If it wasn’t for you, Tricia wouldn’t still
be in the hospital.”
“Ms. Perkins, I think I’ve made my stance clear enough. We’re all adults here. Let’s not make this
anymore awkward. I moved out because I didn’t want to live under the same roof as him. Now that he’s
moving in here, I’ve decided to look elsewhere. Do you really need me to spell it out for you that I don’t
want him here?”
“You! Your mother must’ve died because of you! Today, I’m going to give you the lesson you deserve
on her behalf!”
Cristina raised her hand, ready to strike, Maja’s beautiful eyes were cold and indifferent. She grabbed NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
Cristina’s hand and, without hesitation, slapped her back.
The slap left everyone in shock, shattering the fragile peace they had maintained over the years
Cristina stood dumbfounded, her hand covering her struck face.
“I warned you before if you laid a hand on me again, I wouldn’t be so forgiving.”
Before her words fully sank in, Neil shouted angrily, “Maja!!”
He was so angry his hand was trembling. As her father, Maja knew she couldn’t retaliate, but from the
moment he raised his hand, her heart ached uncontrollably. Despite anticipating this, it still hurt
Neil stopped his hand midway, refraining from striking her. The disappointment was etched all over his
face as he looked at Maja.
“You used to be so sensible. How did you end up like this?”
He held Cristina, trying to comfort her. But when had Cristina ever been treated like this, especially by
that woman’s daughter?
Her chest was heaving, a scream building up within her
“Enough!”
Niells tone turned stern. “Apologize to Ms. Perkins. She is your elder, after all. What you did was
wrong”
Maja turned to the staff, “Im sorry, could you show me some other places?”
“Majar
Nell was furious, calling her full name for the first time. His lips were turning white. Since when had his
daughter stopped listening to him?
“Dad, my mom is dead”
Maja stopped, looking straight at her father without any hesitation.
“What right does Cristina have to lay her hands on me repeatedly? You worry about Tricia being alone
outside, but have you ever worried about what I’ve been through all these years? You treat someone
else’s son as your own, but you let your own daughter marry a stranger. Who’s being unreasonable
here, me or Cristina?”
“Does she have any right to discipline me in place of my mom? Is she worthy?!”
