Lisa casually walked over and opened the envelope.
Groom: Lucas; Bride: Linda.
A smirk crept onto Lisa's face. She never thought Linda would actually manage to climb her way up like that. But soon, something else caught her eye-a small line beneath the bride's name: Maid of Honor, Chloe.
It was unusual to see the maid of honor's name on an invitation, which piqued Lisa's curiosity. Yet, she had to admit, Linda had some serious skills. After all, Lucas and Chloe had been childhood sweethearts, practically promised to each other since they were kids.
The fact that Linda could break into such a tight-knit bond and even have Chloe the "original partner"-stand next to her at the wedding was almost unbelievable. But, on second thought, Lisa understood why Linda needed to pull such a stunt.
Chloe and Lucas might not have been legally married, but their wedding was the talk of Riverbrook, attended by all the local big shots. Their drama- filled romance was a favorite topic of gossip. Having Chloe as her maid of honor would signal that all grudges were buried, and no one could label Linda a homewrecker anymore. If those directly involved had moved on, what could anyone else say?
What truly amazed Lisa was Linda's ability to persuade Chloe into being part of it all. A scheme started brewing in Lisa's mind. Tomorrow might just be the perfect moment to set it in motion.
Lisa tucked the invitation into her pocket and headed to meet Ricky in a private booth at a bar. As soon as Ricky saw her, he couldn't wait, "Did you bring the six million?"
Lisa noticed Ricky's left pinky wrapped in thick bandages and asked, "What happened to your hand?"
Ricky's jaw clenched with anger at the memory. Chloe had cleared a thirty million debt for him, leaving just three million unpaid. He couldn't scratch together that last bit. The next day, without the money, the loan manager didn't toss him to the crocodiles but did have someone cut off his pinky. The pain was excruciating, a memory that still made him shiver.
Ricky couldn't mention Chloe,
especially since Lisa had no idea he had already sold her secrets. "It's because you flaked. Without the six million, lost a finger. Lisa, you owe me for this. Make it another six million," Ricky shamelessly pinned the blame on Lisa.
But instead of flying off the handle as she might have before, Lisa simply smiled. "Twelve million?
That's nothing, Ricky. Do something for me, and I'll pay you fifty million."
Ricky's eyes widened at the sound of fifty million. "I'm listening. What do you need?"
Lisa leaned in, "Help me take someone out."
Ricky's face fell, "Lisa, murder is illegal."
Lisa laughed, "You, talking about the law?"
Ricky's expression darkened, but he still asked, "Who do you want gone?"
"Chloe."
The name flickered a flash of hatred in Ricky's eyes. That woman was terrifying, and he wouldn't mind seeing her gone. But her connections were no joke.
"Chloe's with the Sartori family, and her supporters are powerful. If I kill her, how long do you think I'd last?"
Even though Ricky wished Chloe
would disappear, he was aware of the risks. Her connections were ironclad, and just her ties with Claud alone could destroy him. He wasn't about to act foolishly.
