Chapter 597
Chapter 597
Ricky's voice on the other end of the line was anything but patient. "I'm almost there, alright?" he snapped.
"What in the world is taking you so long? Rat, if you don't get this done today, you can forget about seeing a single cent from me."
"For crying out loud, do you think killing someone is as easy as taking out a chicken? I need to scope out the place and figure out a getaway plan, don't I?"
This wasn't Ricky's usual gig, and the thought of murder had him on edge. But the lure of fifty million dollars and a chance to settle the score with Chloe pushed him forward. He'd gotten his hands on a gun through some shady deals, but doubt still gnawed at him. His biggest concern? Lisa.
If he went through with this, would she really stick to her word? Or was she just playing him? Then again, they were both in too deep. If he got caught, he could spill the beans about her past-how she'd killed her own father. She'd end up behind bars for life. Lisa wouldn't risk her future on a gamble like that, would she?
With these thoughts swirling, Ricky strolled right into the venue. Lisa had given him an invite, but today he didn't even need it. The security guards who were supposed to check invitations at the entrance were nowhere in sight. So he sauntered in, wearing a baseball cap, casual clothes, and a mask that gave him a bit of a sketchy vibe. But with all the buzz in the air, no one paid him any mind.
He found a seat close to the stage. The table was mostly occupied by women and their kids, who were too busy chatting to notice him. "The wedding's started, but where's the groom?" one of them wondered aloud.
"I've been here for ages and still no sign of Lucas," another chimed in.
"Same old story. I was at one of his weddings before, and he was a no-show then too."
"Seriously, what's the Moncada family thinking? They embarrassed themselves three years ago, and now they're rehashing it. Everyone knows today's bride was the 'other woman' back then. The groom's missing again, just like before. It's like they're tossing their dignity into the ocean."
"Did you see the bride? She's about to pop-nine months along, and she's still insisting on a wedding. What's the point?"
"I heard from Mrs. Hocks that Mrs. Moncada said the whole thing's because the mistress is using the baby as leverage, even making the ex-wife be a bridesmaid, or she'll abort the baby."
"Wow, that's some next-level scheming. And the Meadows family's lady agreed to it? She's a saint for putting up with this."
"Must've been the Moncada family begging her. It's their eldest grandson, after all. But Ms. Chloe's patience is something else."
The banquet hall buzzed with
gossip, the air thick with scandal.

Meanwhile, the Moncada family was in a tizzy Linda stood on stage, calm amidst the chaos. The master of ceremonies approached her, fraught with worry. "Ms. Linda, we can't find Mr. Lucas. What should we do?"
No groom meant no ceremony, right? But Linda, unfazed, kept her gaze steady on a distant point. "Begin the ceremony," she instructed.
The MC blinked, thinking he misheard. "I'm sorry, what?"Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
