Drawn to You: The Billionaire’s Second Wife

Chapter 34

While in the office, Xavier was very busy with the files on his table which he had not worked on yet.

He picked up his phone and decided to reach Lillian, but he couldn’t… He tried many times yet his contact wasn’t available at the moment.

He didn’t bother trying her line again, rather he decided to keep everything on his mind until he got home.

After so many hours had elapsed, it was already noon, he decided to move to the eatery and get something into his stomach since he didn’t take anything before leaving for work.

His secretary dashed into his office while he was already on his feet.

“Sir, a message came in just now…you have a meeting to attend at the conference hall.” His secretary announced.

He felt weak on hearing the news, that isn’t how he planned the day to be. He had thought of taking enough rest.

“Okay then, I’ve heard you…” he replied and the lady left.

He got seated again thinking of what to do. “The conference meeting might take lots of hours, I will need to take my lunch first before leaving… because I don’t know how long this meeting will last.” he thought to himself and got on his feet leaving his office.

He stepped into the eatery and ordered a light meal which was served immediately. While gobbling on his food, he got a message on his cell phone about the conference meeting.

“Soon I’ll be there, I’m on my way and will be with you all immediately.” He soliloquized putting back the phone into his pocket.

When he was through with the meal, he dropped the glass of water placed beside the plate just to see it slip off his palm.

“Oh my God! What the heck is happening to me…” he screamed, getting on his feet.

The waitress rushed towards him with a little towel to dry the water that spilled on his shirt. “It’s ok dear, you don’t need to worry… I should be the one to apologize for the broken glass.”

“That’s ok sir, it’s just an accident…” The lady replied, handing the towel over to him.

He dried up the water on his shirt, and then was served with another glass of water before he left the eatery.

For the first time a glass slipped off his palm, he thought of what’s behind it or how careless he is at handling certain things.

His eyes shut and he hissed out loud. “I just believe it’s a common broken glass.” he uttered and stepped into his car to leave for the meeting.

Xavier parked his car at the garage, alighted from it and moved into the hall. His colleagues were already seated and he was the only one left to arrive.

“I’m so sorry for the delays in coming. To be honest, I got the message so late so I needed to hurry up.” he pleaded to them.

“It’s ok Mr Xavier, thanks you are here so the meeting is supposed to begin now.” One of the leaders uttered.

He got seated after exchanging pleasantries with the others.

While glancing at the faces of his colleagues seated opposite and beside him, he got a face so familiar.

Yes! That face is so familiar to him and he is trying as much as he can to reminisce on where he knew the face.

“Who is he…? Do I really know him…? Where do I know this face…? Does he know me too…?” These questions kept battling in him yet he couldn’t give a reply to it.

His eyes affixed on the young man who kept staring at him too, and then he decided to look up and concentrate on the meeting.

Just as usual, they discussed certain issues about their business schedules in New York and how it is going to be organised and amended.

They all brought up an idea and suggestions on how to put things together for the benefits of themselves.

While the meeting was coming to an end, they were served some dishes in order to get some strength and for the time wasted.

The meeting came to an end finally and Xavier left the hall immediately leaving for his car.

“Hey Mr…” a voice paused his movement.

He turned his face backwards to see that the same man had been staring in the hall, but now there is something different.

Yes, he can finally get his face very well.

He is his worst enemy.

“Jasper… I’m sure I’m not mistaken.” he questioned with so much alacrity.

The young man smiled moving towards him. “Of course, you aren’t mistaken. I am the Jasper that you have known all these years.”

“Why then are you stopping me? Do I still have any business with you…? Is there anything binding the two of us together again? If I had known that you were the one I’ve been seeing in the hall, I wouldn’t bother staring at you that way.” He retorted.

“Yes, you continued staring at me because I am familiar right? My face is familiar, that’s why you continued staring at me.” the young man replied.

He circled his lips in anger while his palms clutched together sweating profusely.

“Jasper, you can just have your way… I don’t think I have any business with you at the moment.” Xavier commented and turned his back on him.

“That’s not the end of everything Mr Xavier, don’t just think that I’ve forgotten everything…”

“And what the heck do you just have in mind? Did I in any way offend you or you’re just trying to threaten yourself and not me…?” Xavier retorted.

Jasper moved closer to him. “Maybe you didn’t offend me or you offended me though, but I should be the one to tell you if you did or not. Remember this, whenever I start beating my drum that’s when you start dancing to the tune.”

“Oh shut up. … A jerk, that’s what you are. And again, when did you join the business administration because I know the past meeting you weren’t here.” Xavier questioned him.

“How would you know? Will you bother to know that the worst enemy that I ever had isn’t dead.” Jasper stated.

“I’m glad you called me that, you are my worst enemy just like I am to you. You’re the worst friend I have ever had, and they regret having you as a friend at first.” Xavier spluttered.

Jasper stepped backwards. “It’s ok then, we will see… This is not the end of the game.” he threatened.

Xavier stared at him gritting his teeth, his heart became so heavy instantly and he bit his lips out of anger. “Don’t dare me again Jasper. Don’t you ever try pushing me to the wall because I promise to take it to any level you want. I will teach you a lesson you’ve never been taught before.” Xavier sniffed and shut his eyes.

“Mr Xavier Brown, goodbye but don’t just forget as I said earlier…this is not the end of the game. I am still coming back to tell you that I am Mr Jasper Turner.” he threatened again.

Xavier left him stepping into his car, he stood and watched him drive off from the compound.

He felt his heart beating so fast and the inside of her burning like flames. “I will teach you a lesson… I will make sure you roast in hell.” he abused.

Immediately he left to his own car and drove off, but the sight of Xavier in the conference meeting kept bothering him.

For a long time now, he had wished never to set his eyes on Xavier again, he had promised to keep Xavier as his worst enemy throughout his life… and here he is in New York again gathering in a conference hall with his worst enemy.

“I won’t spare your life, Xavier, I will make sure you regret having me as a friend at first. You dealt with my heart but I’ll make sure to stab you from the back.” He muttered within him while driving back home.

Everything about the past keeps flashing in his mind, he could remember the days they were the best friends ever. Xavier loved him and every step he took, but he couldn’t believe his best friend would turn around to be his worst enemy.

“I won’t let you go scot-free.” he uttered, gritting his teeth. “I don’t care the heck you have done for me in the past, all your love and care years ago are just in vain, because I will never look up to it… rather I will work my plans on you and make sure you will regret everything.” he licked his lips in agony.

Due to the anger in him, he arrived home and left to his bedroom without saying a word to his children.

The only thing he managed is to respond to their greeting not minding if their facial expression was bright., especially that of Chloe.

He twitched into his bedroom to see Lillian lying on the bed, with the way he felt he didn’t bother mentioning her name nor did Lillian bother to say a word to him.

He had lost his appetite already and so there’s no need for dinner, so he dropped his briefcase on the table and began undressing himself.

To hell with the dude he met at the conference today, if he had known he would meet Jasper he would have taken an excuse so he wouldn’t attend the meeting.

“What brought him back to New York anyways? I thought he had left the city for goodness sake.” He pouted his lips in dismay. “He’s trying to see the other side of me… he has done a lot.” he thought.

He dashed into the bathroom and freshened up after which he got seated on the sofa affixing himself in deep thought.

Meeting his worst enemy after so many years is one thing he has never wanted to happen, and here he is battling with the inside of him because he wouldn’t want Jasper to step on his feet again.
