Echoes Of a Forsaken Heart

Chapter 72

Chapter 72

Groggily, Natalia stirred awake to find Hamilton fussing over her with a pile of clothes.

“Running a fever again? Where does it hurt?”

Natalia’s chest heaved, “I just feel awful all over.”

Breathing was a chore, as if something was lodged in her throat. “Hamilton, I... | can’t catch my breath.”

As soon as she finished speaking, she erupted into a fit of coughing, followed by a wave of nausea and vomiting.

Without hesitation, Hamilton scooped her up and hurried out the door. He drove as fast as he could, and in no time, they were at the hospital.

After a brief conversation with the doctor, she was sent off for allergy tests. When the results came back, the doctor asked, “Has she ever taken any birth control pills recently?” Hamilton glanced at Natalia, “Yes.”

The doctor nodded, “That makes sense. She’s allergic to the contraceptive. I've prescribed. some medication, and she'll need an IV. Going forward, you'll want to avoid that medication. Her reaction is quite severe.”

Hamilton nodded in agreement.

Once the doctor left, silence descended upon the room.

Hamilton sat by the bed, watching her. After a while, he murmured, “I'll be more careful in the future.”

Though the truth was, he had always been careful. Not letting Natalia get pregnant was a non-negotiable. The last time had been an accident. This time was simply too rushed.

“Okay, thank you,” Natalia replied, her voice eerily calm, laced with a polite detachment. Hamilton found her ‘thank you‘ grating.

Natalia had been distant to him lately, her politeness a barrier. At first, Hamilton was bothered by it, but then, he decided to let it be. When she was done being upset, things would go back to normal. He didn’t want to keep arguing over trivial matters. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.

But now, her attitude remained unchanged even after a month, and it was increasingly unsettling. Still, he held his tongue as he watched her struggle to breathe.

Anurse came in with the medication, her cheeks flushing at the sight of Hamilton.

“Mr. Fowler, I’m such a fan of Eveleen.”

Hamilton raised an eyebrow and nodded at the nurse, who was visibly excited about seeing. him. “Mr. Fowler, you and Eveleen are perfect together. | ship you two so hard!”

“When will your relationship go public?”

The nurse's excitement about Hamilton and Eveleen filled the room.

Natalia felt the irony sting.

Hamilton also grew impatient. He addressed the nurse sternly, “Leave now.”

Confused and embarrassed, the nurse scurried out, only to be replaced by a jittery newcomer who struggled to administer the IV. Exasperated, Hamilton demanded a more competent nurse.

An older nurse replaced the young one, apologizing, “Sorry, Mr. Fowler. That was a trainee.” Frowning, Hamilton responded, “That fan of Eveleen’s, you should fire her.”

The nurse’s expression shifted, but then she noticed Natalia suffering from an allergic

reaction.

Her gaze shifted oddly towards Natalia, who pretended not to notice herself.

After the IV started, Natalia closed her eyes and took a moment to rest.

Hamilton asked, “Still feeling bad?”

Natalia had been given antihistamines upon arrival, but due to the severity of her symptoms, the IV was necessary. She was feeling a bit better now.

“A little.”

“Are you hungry?”

“Not really.”

Natalia wasn’t hungry. If anything, she felt like throwing up again.

“I'll get you something to eat,” Hamilton said, before leaving the room.

Natalia felt a bitter sweetness. Even though she'd decided to leave him, her love for him hadn’t faded. Overhearing comments on him and Eveleen, she couldn’t help but feel sorrow.

She covered her warming eyes, wishing she’d never met Hamilton when she was seven. But there were no ‘what ifs*. The memories of a young Hamilton were some of her happiest.

Natalia had always thought he’d be her lifelong delight. But he turned out to be both the sweet and the poison.

She'd taken the sweet but couldn’t shake off the polson. As he found happiness with his beloved Eveleen, she was left alone and oiling.”

Feeling suffocated, she rose, intending to sit in the hallway for a bit. Yet as she reached the door, it swung open, revealing the same young nurse, now accompanied by a woman in her

forties. Natalia’s brows furrowed slightly. “What can | do for you?” she asked.

The nurse sneered. “Natalla, huh? You're the home-wrecker who wedged herself between our dear Eveleen and Mr. Fowler, and you're the one who ruined Zara and her father’s life?”

Natalia’s eyebrows furrowed sharply. It took her a moment to put her words together.

Zara? She must be the fan back then.

Natalia’s expression darkened immediately. So, it was another fan coming to settle scores

with her.

She was beginning to truly admire Eveleen.

What kind of charm did she possess to have fans going to such lengths for her, as if their lives depended on it?

She took a deep breath. “I have never been a ‘home-wrecker’, and | certainly haven't harmed anyone. Show some respect, please. If you continue this way, I’ll have no choice but to call the police.”

The nurse laughed. “Another shameless woman dares to threaten calling the cops?”

Natalia turned and reached for her phone on the bedside table. But before she could dial out, the woman suddenly lunged forward and clasped Natalia in her arms.

Then, with a thud, she dropped to her knees before her. “Ms. Jenkins, I’m begging you. Please leave my husband and my daughter alone, | implore

you!”
