Chapter 10: Do You Know How Long You've Been Gone?
Henry could hear every word of Luz's conversation with Declan in the enclosed space of the car. His
face was clouded over at their sweet and lingering words.
Henry stepped on the accelerator and sped up, which made Luz jump.
She turned and saw Henry light a cigarette with one hand, his expression dark.
"Declan, I'll talk to you when we get home." Luz quickly hung up the phone and grabbed the handle
over the door.
She had always been afraid of the way Henry drove.
There was dead silence in the car. It was so quiet that one could almost hear a needle drop.
After a while, the man's cold voice sounded in the car.
"Luz, do you know how long you've been away?"
Luz was silent.
After a long while, she replied, "Seven years."
"2555 days and four hours!"
Henry corrected her as he puffed out some smoke from his lips. The smoke lingered in the car and
around Luz, which made her choke slightly.
She coughed.
Henry glanced at her and said coldly, "Did you come back because Declan's career is stable in North
City now?"
"How long I've been gone and why I came back doesn't matter."
Luz frowned, offended by his sarcastic tone. She returned with a similar tone of sardonicism, "It's really
none of your business, Mr Maynard."
"It's none of my business?" Henry repeated.
He scoffed as if he had heard something funny. Veins popped on his hands as he tightened his grip on
the steering wheel.
Without warning, he slammed on the breaks, sending an unprepared Luz sprawling forwards.
Before she could hit the windshield, a strong arm grabbed her by the waist and pulled her back.
Luz fell back into the seat heavily. As she cried out in pain, Henry's voice seemed to come from a NôvelDrama.Org: owner of this content.
distance. His tone was heavy and hurtful.
"Luz, do you know how much I want to strangle you when I saw your face again?"
He had lived in so much pain for so many days and nights because of her!
"... Is that so?"
Luz suddenly gave up struggling and looked down.
"But I found my happiness when I left you."
Her hurtful words frustrated Henry. He could no longer hold in his emotions.
He reached out his hand suddenly and grabbed Luz, then lowered his head and kissed her hard.
"Henry... Let go of me..."
Luz protested faintly and pressed her hands against his chest, trying to push him away from her.
But Henry pressed down on her so hard that she had no chance to struggle. He kissed her ferociously
as his hand slipped under her shirt.
Luz trembled all over and instantly tensed up.
