Chapter 37: Mr Maynard Has Been Married For Eight Years!
Luz's mind was in a mess. Just as she was trying to figure out how to face the situation, she felt many
eyes staring at her, in a mixture of disbelief, envy, jealousy, and even some regret.
She looked around blankly and saw that Henry had stepped off the stage and was walking towards her
with a fond smile.
Crazy, he must be crazy.
Henry watched her panic silent mockery. "Now you're scared, Luz Boone. You should have thought of
this before you go around seducing other men."
"Oh my god, Mr Maynard has been married for eight years!"
The news was like thunder to them, but the reporters soon sobered up. Mr Maynard was currently in a
relationship with the A-list celebrity Emily Hurst, so it made no sense that he was married and had a
child.
Henry ignored the curiosity and doubts in their eyes. He walked towards Luz in regal strides. He pulled
her into his arms and whispered in her ear, "Surprise."
Luz wanted to push him away, but his cold threat continued by her ear, bringing the smell of cigarettes
with it.
"If you push me away, I'll bankrupt the Carver family's company tomorrow. Then we'll see how your
beloved childhood crush Declan fares, shall we?"
Even if he left the woman, that didn't mean she was up for Declan to take.
He would never allow this woman to have a happy life because he hated her.
"You're crazy."
She said as quietly as she could, but her accusation was weak.
"I'll make you go crazy before I do."
"Then you should be obedient."
Henry's lips curled into a gentle smile, but it made Luz feel cold all over. She was once again This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
threatened.
"Ms Boone, have you really been married to Mr Maynard for eight years?"
The reporters still couldn't believe the explosive news they had just heard. Henry Maynard, the golden
bachelor and the most powerful person in North City, the dream man of every woman, was secretly
married to Luz Boone, and they had a seven-year-old child.
It was incredible.
"What did you just call her?"
Before Luz could answer, Henry's cold but oppressive voice rang out again. The face of the reporter
who had just come up to ask questions changed and he quickly corrected himself. "Mrs Maynard."
The title "Mrs Maynard" gave her complicated feelings. She glanced at the man beside her. "Why can't
I escape him," she thought forlornly.
"Darling, it seems that you have to confirm it with them again."
The hand around her waist tightened, forcing her to lean into his arms.
"We really... did get married eight years ago."
She said this with difficulty. Luz felt like the unhealed wound in her heart had been torn open again with
the admission of her failed marriage with Henry.
Eight years ago, only two families attended the wedding right here in this banquet hall on the 33rd floor
of the Atlantis Summit Hotel. There was no grand wedding and no well-wishers, just a simple dinner
between two families. Yet, at the time, she had felt so happy.
She was marrying the man she wanted to marry. She would be happy even if the dinner was just water.
But covering her eyes and ears to reality only trapped her in an illusion of happiness, which was
shattered eventually. She had thought that her marriage would last forever, that he would be worthy of
her love forever.
Henry watched as she seemed to fall into a daze with a pained expression. His smile faded and was
replaced with suppressed anger. He wondered whether she was feeling sad because he forced her to
admit their relationship or if she was sad for losing Declan.
The pain at her waist brought Luz back to reality quickly. She looked down at the hand around her
waist. It didn't seem to be exerting much force, but it was placed strategically at the softest side of her
waist.
She was annoyed but had nowhere to vent her anger. She could only stare at him, wondering what
made him call a press conference to announce their past relationship.
But her glare did not faze Henry at all. In fact, he lifted her chin with his slim fingers and kissed her.
The sudden kiss took her by surprise, and she flinched at the contact. She thought that he would treat
her roughly like before, but he didn't. He just pressed his lips against hers and did not do anything
further.
There was even a hint of disgust in that carefully maintained distance.
Luz really wanted to push him away and tell the reporters that she had lost her mind when she married
Henry eight years ago, but she had regained her sanity and divorced him. Their marriage had ended,
and now they were just ex-husband and wife.
However, when she thought of his cold threat just now, she could only retire all her impulses and let
him continue the reluctant kiss in front of the flashing cameras.
The dissatisfaction in Henry's eyes faded somewhat when the woman in his arms keep quiet. No
matter how much she liked Declan Carver, those feelings could only be unimportant.
The press conference ended in the commotion of exclamations and camera shutters clicking. Luz was
pulled into the Maybach. As soon as the doors closed, she pulled his arm away from her waist.
"Henry Maynard, we have nothing to do with each other anymore. Why are you doing this?"
She took a deep breath and tried to keep herself calm. "You are Henry Maynard of North City. You have
many women around you who would love to be with you. Are you sure it's wise to keep harassing your
ex-wife like this?"
Emily Hurst, the celebrity was a good example. She was doing everything she could to keep him in her
favour.
It had been seven years since they divorced. Why couldn't Henry let her go?
His hand reached out and grabbed her chin tightly, like a pair of pliers. Henry looked at her with an
amused expression, but his eyes were cold. "I decide what's wise and what's not."
"You're insane."
Her chin was hurting because of his grip. She tried to remove herself, but he just tightened his grip, so
she couldn't do anything. "What is this lunatic trying to do?!" She cursed.
Just as Henry was planning to teach her a lesson, his phone suddenly rang. His furrowed brows
relaxed when he saw the caller ID, and he picked up the phone.
