Chapter 49 Roasted Chicken
Chapter 49 Roasted Chicken
"Mother, you are thinking too far. If you really want a great-granddaughter, that would depend on
someone."
Maddison raised her eyebrows and looked at Luz. She hated this woman more now than she had
seven years ago. The old lady liked and was always partial to her. More importantly, she brought back
an alleged great-grandson of the Maynard Family.
Seeing that Maddison kept directing sarcastic remarks at Luz, the old lady tightened her expression
and told her, "If you don't want to have dinner with us, don't. Stop with the comments already!"
Maddison was embarrassed to be scolded like this in front of the youngsters. Her face was red with
anger. "Mother, I was just concerned about the two of them."
"Don't worry about them. They know what to do."
After a cold snort, the old lady's angered expression was immediately replaced by a loving smile. She
patted Luz's hand and said, "Luz, you and Henry should think about it. It's not like we can't afford
another child."
"..."
"If you're worried about favouritism, don't worry, I will definitely not allow it. If anyone says otherwise, I
will give Logan all of the Maynard family's inheritance."
This was said half in jest, but Maddison's expression changed immediately. She was the wife of the late
Mr Maynard, but yet she would never get any inheritance from the Maynard family. How could a b*stard
child get it? He wasn't even Henry's biological child!
At the thought of how all her hard work in this life had been in vain, she almost dropped her cutlery in
anger.
"Grandma, don't say that. I'm hungry." Luz changed the subject hastily and stuffed the roasted chicken
in her plate into her mouth.
Anyone can have a second child except her and Henry.
"Eat more if you're hungry. Only when you're full can you have more strength."
After saying that, the old lady winked at Henry. Luz happened to see her, and her face turned red. Was
grandma really insinuating something or did she just have a dirty mind?
Henry smirked. "Grandma, I don't have any problem with it."
"That's good. Keep it up, I'm rooting for you."
The Old Madam smiled brightly when she heard that. The two of them clearly had feelings for each
other, but they couldn't let go of the misunderstanding they had. She knew that they would come back
together as long as she kept this up.
Sooner or later, they would burn together like dry twigs and fire.
After they finished their meal, Luz found an excuse to go upstairs. She couldn't avoid staying in the
Maynard family mansion, so the best she could do was to avoid Henry altogether.
However, it was like he was deliberately shadowing her. As soon as she went up, he followed.
In order to avoid embarrassment, she deliberately slowed down so that he was walking in front of her.
The lights on either side of the stairs cast their intertwining shadows on the wall. Luz's heart began
beating faster. Her mind seemed to have its own consciousness, showing her images of the past,
memories that she once thought was beautiful.
Lost in thought, she lost her footing and missed the last step, losing her balance.
The stairs were low, but the height was enough to cause some damage.
Out of reflex, she shielded her face so that it wouldn't get hurt. Even though she didn't really rely on her
looks to make a living, she still appreciated the good looks that God had given her.
She braced herself for the impact, but suddenly, a hand wrapped around her waist and stopped her
descent. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
There was no pain. She swallowed in relief and raised her head to look at her saviour.
Henry's expression betrayed no emotion, as if he wasn't the one who saved her, but his hands were
firmly around her waist.
"Thank... thank you."
As soon as she opened her mouth, her heart began to beat faster. If Henry hadn't stopped her in time,
she would have rolled down the stairs.
Her thanks made him feel uncomfortable. He glanced at the hand holding her waist and frowned.
"Next time, before you fall, please take a good look and don't fall into my arms."
Luz was completely stunned by what he said. It was the first time she had heard such a ridiculous
thing. He was the one who caught her, she did not fall into his arms.
But before she could say anything, the hand on her waist suddenly loosened. Fortunately, she had
quick reflexes and reached out to grab the bannisters next to her. Otherwise, she would not have been
so lucky the second time.
Hearing the noise, the old lady walked over worriedly. "Did something happen just now?"
"We're fine, grandma, nothing happened. We were just going upstairs."
Henry smiled but glanced at the frightened Luz.
"Grandma, we were going upstairs."
Luz lied through her teeth despondently. If it weren't for her quick reflexes, she would be sprawled at
the bottom of the stairs right now.
"Oh, go on then."
The old lady waved them up smilingly as if they were ducklings. She seemed to be eager.
Luz went straight up to the third floor without any other incident. Without Henry in her space, she could
breathe easier.
"Mommy, do you really want to have a second baby with him?"
Logan tilted his head and asked her when he caught up with her.
"Of course not."
There was a hint of shock in Luz's eyes. Her son better not have any bad ideas.
"That's good. I think I would prefer a younger brother or sister with better genes."
Uncle Declan's genes were good. He was gentle and kind, not annoyingly cold.
"..."
"Okay, do you have any homework? Go and do your homework."
She got rid of the little guy and changed into some casual loungewear. When she recalled the incident
with Henry earlier, she felt that the man was even more unreadable than he was seven years ago.
She shook her head. She had had a really tiring day today, so she would have a good night's sleep.
The next morning, Luz was up earlier than usual, but Logan had already been sent to school by old Mrs
Maynard.
She glanced at the Mayback parked outside and thought about buying her own car with her savings. It
would be torture if she had to go to work with Henry every day.
"Get in the car!"
A cold order came out of the car window, so she had to pick up the bag.
"Luz, grandma is old. I respect her ideas, so from now on, you should play your role well, otherwise..."
