Chapter 460 The Arrival of Marjorie

He furrowed his brows, his eyes full of confusion, “What does it mean?”

I couldn’t tell him what I had to do, I couldn’t let him accompany me on this adventure. After all, there

were some things that only I could do.

Swallowing the bitterness in my heart, I spoke, “Alright, let’s give each other two years. You go

investigate what happened on the eve of Chinese New Year. No matter what the outcome, I hope we

can accept it with equanimity in the end.”

“Two years?” He was puzzled, frowning. “Why two years? It won’t take long, I can find out soon. I don’t

need two years.”

“Marjorie needs you,” I began, looking at him, “The child in her belly is slowly starting to show, no

matter what the final result of your investigation is, you have to take responsibility for her and the child,

don’t you?”

If I hadn’t known about Marjorie’s background in the past, I wouldn’t have said these things. But now

that I do, regardless of whatever results Walter ultimately finds, he needs to take care of Marjorie and

the child in her womb.

By this point, the only way for Marjorie to legitimately have her baby was for Walter to marry her.

It was also the only way to protect her reputation.

Who made her father be Michael, of all people, and the person entrusted happened to be Walter’s

father?

All of this, it was like a dead end, could only proceed according to the predetermined setup.

Walter began a long silence, and I fell silent too.

Marjorie was not Ashley, I could insult her, hate her, even show her no

mercy.

But Marjorie couldn’t, even if she hadn’t done anything wrong up until now. The mere fact that she was

Michael’s daughter was enough to stop me. Not for anything else, but for that touch of admiration for

the hero in my heart.

That night, I didn’t leave. I stayed at the Water Villa. Walter held me tightly all night, and we remained

silent throughout.

The next day, Walter did end up drinking. By the early hours of the morning, he finally succumbed to

the effects of the alcohol and fell into a deep sleep. I couldn’t sleep, my mind was filled with thoughts

and I was carefully calculating the time, realizing that the time Ezra was supposed to arrive was almost

upon us.

Perhaps due to several consecutive days of drizzling rain, River City was no longer experiencing light

rain today, but was instead basking in bright sunshine. The clear weather after the rain was indeed the

most beautiful.

Like any other city, I couldn’t sleep. I left Walter’s embrace and came to the window to quietly

daydream. The sunlight hit my body, its warmth making me slightly dizzy.

How long it had been since I had experienced such peace.

Had it not been for the engine noise coming from downstairs, I would probably have basked in the

sunlight until it moved elsewhere.

Hearing the engine sound, I cast my eyes down towards the building

below. It was a red Volkswagen, its presence here truly surprised me, it wasn’t the Hinton family’s car.

For a moment, the doorbell rang from downstairs.

I put on my coat and went downstairs, opened the door, and saw the person standing outside. I was

stunned for a few seconds, surprised that it could be her.

“Ms. Knight.” That was how I addressed Marjorie. I truly couldn’t call her Marjorie like her mother and

Alexander did.

Seeing me, her surprise and astonishment were no less than mine, even more so. Clearly, my

presence here was truly beyond her

contemplation.

After a while, she finally moistened her pale lips and said, “Ms. Conner, how did you…”

“Walter got drunk last night, I brought him home.” I began, opening the door and stepping aside to let

her into the hall.

She could find her way here, presumably she had been here before.

She entered the hall, clutching the food box in her hand, “I… didn’t know you were here. I called Mr.

Austen this morning and found out that Mr. Hinton had drunk too much last night. I was worried about

his headache, so I came to bring him some hangover soup.”

I nodded, giving a faint smile, “I dropped him off on my way. Now that you’re here, I’ll leave first.” Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

“Ms. Conner,” she began, stopping me.

I looked back at her, somewhat puzzled, “What’s wrong?”

stunningly beautiful face. A few seconds later, she placed her hand on her stomach, looked up at me

and said, “The baby in my belly already has a heartbeat and is forming.”

I didn’t know why she suddenly said that. I didn’t speak, just kept staring at her motionlessly, waiting for

her next sentence.

She pursed her lips, saying, “I know you and Mr. Hinton were once married, and he probably loved you

at some point. But now, many things have been settled. I can’t bear to abort this child, nor do I want to

harm this innocent life. So, I will follow the advice of the Hinton family’s grandmother and marry Mr.

Hinton, giving birth to this child.”
