Getting His Attention
Meanwhile, Devlin was so busy in his company. He just finished a very important meeting with his shareholders. He was even surprised to see that Fiona Ross was in the meeting. She has never attended any meeting for the shareholders simply because she is not a shareholder in his company. He found out later on that one of his shareholders is a distant relative to the Ross’ family. She came to represent the shareholder who was on a business trip.
What he didn’t know was that Fiona convinced that distant relative to come on behalf of him. She wanted to have an excuse to see Devlin again. Although, she can readily come to his office. However, she wanted to appear like she was not chasing him.
After the meeting, she went to see Devlin in his office. She really wanted to have him in any way possible.
“Hey Mr. Wesley, how are you doing? You left me last time.” She said, while pouting. She is wearing a black tight pencil skirt and a white sleeveless shirt that shows a deep cleavage. She added a black blazer to appear formal for the meeting earlier. But once she got inside Devlin’s office, she removed her blazer.
“I am all good. I am really busy right now. Is there anything you want?” He said seriously while checking his laptop for any email messages.
Fiona is annoyed that he could just ignore her presence easily.
“Well, I came here for you because I would like to invite you for lunch. I was grateful for what you did to me at the party although you left without informing me.” She got closer to Devlin who was still in his swivel chair. Her cleavage was showing off, just eye level to where Devlin was seated.
“You don’t have to thank me. I mean anyone would do what I did, especially that it was my fault that you got the sprain.”
“I just thought that we could spend more time together. You know, just like the old times.” Fiona could not really stop her mouth. She got even closer… to Devlin’s annoyance.
“What are you doing, Ms. Ross? I am about to leave. This is not a time to chitchat.” He said those words to dismiss her. But Fiona was quite persistent.
“I just want your time. It’s been a while since we last went out.” She continued blabbering but Devlin was already at the end of his patience.
“Ms. Ross, I don’t do those things anymore. I am a married man now.” Fiona gasped in surprise when she heard what he just said.
“Say that again? You are married? To whom? You must be bluffing. It’s Dalton who is engaged to your ex.” She said while laughing almost hysterically.
“You can’t be serious, right?” She asked after he stayed quiet.
“Yes, I am very serious. I am already married.” He does not really want to tell her but she is starting to annoy him. He does not want to give her any mixed signals just because he was being nice to her at the party.
“Oh alright… that’s big news! So, who is the lucky woman? Don’t tell me it’s Amber. The woman you were with at the party.” Then, she realized something. She remembered what happened in the restroom. Devlin’s mom confronted Amber to leave her son alone. So, his family is not in favor of their marriage.
Even if he is already married, she can still find ways to get him for herself. She knows that sooner or later, he is going to be hers. That Amber, whoever she is, can go back to where she belongs.
“If you are married, how come no one knows about it? The media would definitely pick up whatever news about you. You are a celebrity.” She exclaimed. Aside from admiring Devlin, she also loves the attention that she could get when she is with Devlin.
She remembered when they went out for a few dates before. She had to tip the media about those dates. Devlin wanted to keep things private with his personal affairs. However, she does not want to be kept private. She is too famous and rich not to be paraded in front of the public. Every man should be proud to be with her except Devlin. She knew that Devlin only went on those few dates with her because she kept bugging him. He may have thought that once he would give in to her wish, she would grow tired of him. However, among all the men that she went out with, it was Devlin whom she really wanted to be with. Perhaps, her intense attraction towards him could have been transformed into something more special. It could be love. She has never wanted any man before except Devlin Wesley.
‘Soon, you will come knocking at my door.’ She felt comforted with that thought.
She is looking at Devlin now who is just busy with his phone. He is simply ignoring her.
“Why don’t we celebrate your marriage? I mean, I’ve met Amber but it was only for a few chitchats. She immediately left that night. I hope she is fine though.” She said carelessly. It was too late for her to realize that she gave too much information.Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
“What do you mean? Were you with her that night? She was in the restroom when I found her. And I think I saw you coming out from the restroom.” He looked at her with curiosity.
“Did you talk to her? Did you say anything that would make her feel bad or upset?” He asked further. Now, his voice started to go up.
“Easy. Take it easy.” She chuckled while looking at his upset face.
“We talked for a bit. I was just admiring her look. That’s all.” She lied. She does not want to tell him about his mother’s harsh words towards Amber. In fact, she could use his mom so she can get closer to him.
“You better not lie about that. I already caught you lying.” Fiona was surprised to hear what he just said.
“What do you mean by that? I didn’t lie to you.” For sure, Amber would never tell him anything. She did not do anything to her that night except taunted her a little after her mother-in-law left.
“Didn’t you tell me that night that you just arrived at the time I bumped into you? Or did I really bump into you? Or it’s the other way around.” Devlin looked at her with a grimmed face. She laughed so loud at what he just said.
“That’s the funniest thing I have ever heard. I did not know that you have wild imaginations. But I am sorry to burst your bubble, I did not bump into you as you are trying to insinuate. That area was a bit dark. You know that.” She lied. She did come earlier. And she saw when both Devlin and Amber arrived. She just stayed with some friends in the corner. Then, she saw Amber going to the restroom until she asked Devlin to go home alone. She followed them and devised a plan that would look like that he bumped into her. She just wanted him to feel indebted to her. And her plan worked. He spent time with her to help with her swollen foot. However, she got disappointed at the end when she could not find him anymore. It was Dalton who told her that Devlin left.
“Anyway, what are you doing here? I don’t want to waste my time on unnecessary talks. Just leave.” He immediately dismissed her.
Fiona was seething with anger. How dare he dismiss her so readily. She will not stop until she gets what she wants. She left his office without saying anything. Devlin only shook his head. He has known Fiona Ross for a while even back in highschool. She is a spoiled brat.
He was working for hours that he did not realize the time. If his secretary did not check on him, he would not notice that it is past lunch time. He stretched his body after a long day of work. That was a lot of paperwork that he had to check thoroughly. He checked his phone but there was no reply from Amber. He tried calling her but her phone could not be reached. He hopes she is fine. He really wants to talk to her after he comes back from work.
Devlin was driving and stopped at a nearby flower shop. He wanted to buy flowers for his wife. He knows that she loves flowers a lot. He hopes that it could make her feel better. And he is hopeful that she would finally speak to him. He misses her a lot.
As he enters his penthouse, he feels something is strange. The house is unusually quiet. At this time, he could already smell something from the kitchen. It’s either Amber is cooking for their dinner or baking something. Or like what she used to do for three days, she was just watching some shows on the TV.
He went to check in her bedroom. Maybe she is sleeping. However, her bed is neatly made. He checked her bathroom, it was empty. Everything is in its place. He checked every room in the penthouse. He went to the pool area but she was not there. Suddenly, his heart started beating faster. Did she just leave him? No, that can’t be. Amber would never do that. If she wanted to leave him, she could have just left the next day after that night. Probably, she went out to do her grocery shopping. He called Jackson but found out that Amber never contacted him. He immediately went to check her closet. She still has all her clothes. He did not notice the letter that she left behind on the vanity table…
