Chapter 36: Our Boss is Busy
When Allyce woke up, she found the room empty.
The window was open; the wind was blowing from outside and the panes of glass moved freely in the breeze.
As soon as his bare feet touched the ground, his mobile phone rang.
It was Severo.
He carefully instructed her over the phone: “The breakfast on the table must be cold by now, so heat it up in the microwave before you eat.
Allyce could hear what sounded like a faint rustling of papers in the background.
He assumed he was in his office.
He approached the table and looked at the breakfast Severo had prepared for him. A smile unconsciously tugged at his lips and a hint of mirth filled his voice: “Oh! Are you busy?”
There was a few seconds of silence on the other side, and then Severo said, “Well, yes, I’m working”.
At work.
Allyce switched the hand holding the phone to the other and asked an unexpected question: “Where do you work?
At the other end, the subtle sound of flipping through papers stopped”. It’s a small business, but I earn enough to support you.
“…” That wasn’t what I meant. I was just curious.
“You work, I hang up”.
Allyce hung up the phone, her heart beating a little faster. Her hands and feet were working, she could earn money for herself, which she needed to support her. It was so weird!
He thought about what had happened last night in Villa Delahoz.
Severo held her hand tightly, surrounded by bodyguards, looking calm and unafraid.
Then he realised that Severo was different from other men. He was more confident, smarter and calm enough for people to trust him without realising it.
He made it clear more than once that he wanted to spend his life with Allyce.
Now, Allyce thinks that spending her life with Severo might not be so bad.
However, the nicer Severo is to her, the stranger she feels.
He is too kind to her, too attentive, and thinks of her in every way.
So good that it felt strange.
Lost in thought, Allyce accidentally touches her head wound while washing her face.
The pain brought her back to reality.
He suddenly remembered that last night he had finally broken off contact with his grandfather.
When she had returned home, Senona had allied with Richie to hurt her, and now Casimiro wanted to throw her into the fire just to have “stable business ties with the Nuncio group”.
Her family has driven her away completely, so she can’t go back even if she wants to.
However, he will not forget these actions so easily.
As for the prison where his father is, he must find it.
…
After breakfast, Allyce prepared to leave.
He remembered clearly what had happened when he was nine years old.
After her grandmother’s death, her grandfather remarried his current wife, Lavina, and gave birth to Senona’s father, so Allyce’s father moved out as soon as he got married.
Her father was not arrested immediately after the incident. He went to see a lawyer and took Allyce with him.
However, after her father’s arrest, she was sent to the Delahoz home, where she went through hell. Finally, she was falsely accused of abortion and sent out of the country by Casimiro Delahoz.
Will you ever find that lawyer? It has been many years.
He vaguely remembered his residence and his surname. If he tried hard, he could find it.
Allyce had just got out of the taxi when her phone rang.
Pulling out her phone, she saw the name on the screen, it was Lucila.
“Lucila!” said Allyce as she answered the phone and followed her vague memory into an alley.
Lucila’s voice was a little quieter, but I could still hear a faint echo; she must have been calling from the tea room. Why didn’t you come to work today? That bitch Senona just came to hang out in the office. I’ve been busy all morning and I just realised that you didn’t come in today.”
“I…” Allyce paused. How to explain?
“And why did you leave without saying anything to me the other day at the club?” complained Lucila.
Allyce touched the cut on her head: “I suddenly felt bad that day, so I left first so you wouldn’t have to bother sending me back later.
Lucila scoffed coldly: “Excuses”.
Allyce knew Lucila wasn’t really angry, she didn’t really care that Allyce was leaving early that day. I’ve cut all ties with my family, so I’m not going back to work. I’m a bit busy right now. I’ll invite you over for dinner later and apologise for the other day.”
Hanging up the phone, Allyce was relieved that she hadn’t dared to go to Lucila before her head wound had fully healed. Lucila wasn’t stupid, she could put two and two together and find out what had happened.
As Allyce continued on her way, she remembered that the lawyer’s surname was Millian.
At that point, someone approached him and Allyce asked, “Hi, do you know Mr. Millian? He used to be a lawyer here, in his 50s or 60s”.
The man waved his hand: “I’m sorry, I just moved in today, I don’t know him”.
“All right, thank you.” Allyce thanked him with a smile and walked on.
This was the old part of town. If Mr. Millian still lived here, someone must have known him.
Allyce thought as she walked and looked up to see two familiar figures disappearing around a far corner.
How can they be here?
Confused, Allyce picked up her pace and trotted after them, but did not find them.
Obviously, they were here somewhere.
Allyce sat down on a nearby bench and took out her mobile phone to call Severo.
The phone rang several times before it was answered.
Allyce asked, “Severo, where are you?”
“The office. On Severo’s side, I could hear people talking about some project. This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
Allyce’s eyes filled with disbelief. She believed her own eyes. A moment ago, she had actually seen Severo and Xabat’s backs.
“And where is your office?” Allyce had to find out.
Severo was silent for a moment, then smiled warmly and said: “Well, do you miss me?
“…”
Then, fearing his anger, he quickly stated the name of his company, “Blue Sky Investment Management Ltd”.
Blue Sky Investments?
Allyce searched her mind and discovered that she had never heard of the company. It must really be a small company.
…
Took a taxi direct to Blue Sky Investments Ltd.
As she entered, the receptionist stopped her.
“Hello, ma’am. Who are you looking for? Do you have an appointment?”
Allyce was determined to make sure that the person she had just seen was Severo, so she had no time for pleasantries. She asked directly: “Is there anyone here called Severo?
The receptionist’s eyes immediately changed, seeing Allyce’s elegant appearance, and her tone became slightly strange; “You mean Mr. Betances, the vice-president?”
“Uh …” Allyce had no idea what Severo’s position in the company was. She nodded indifferently, “Yes, that’s him.”
The receptionist looked at Allyce with a hint of hostility in her eyes: “Do you have an appointment?
“No.” Allyce shook her head.
“No. …” The receptionist interrupted the word and her smile grew bigger as she said, “Then please make an appointment or wait in line, ma’am. Our boss is very busy.”
