Chapter 704: It’s Like a Dream
Allyce saw Betsalem leave, got back in the car and called Severo.
He had accompanied Betsalem to the hot pot on his previous run from Severo’s house, and only then did he remember to call Severo.
Before she could say anything, Severo heard her start the car and said, “What’s taking you so long to get back?
“Huh?” Allyce froze for a moment before replying that Severo had probably heard the commotion from her side of the room.
“Well, just … finished being busy.” He couldn’t tell her that he had accompanied Betsalem to a fondue dinner earlier.
“Come back soon, I’ll stop talking to you for now, focus on driving, OK, hang up”.
Severo Choi hung up the phone and she said nothing more, said goodbye to him and hung up.
When he heard the phone ring, Severo put it away.
Turning his head, he saw Betsalem standing by the wall, looking at him with a suspicious expression.
“Go back to J and don’t show your face around Z again, let alone say anything to Allyce, or …” Severo said with a slight pause before adding, “You know, I can’t control myself.”
Betsalem’s heart fluttered, not daring to utter a sound.
Severo, probably sensing that his threat had worked, did not delay any longer and turned and left.
When Betsalem saw Severo disappear, he turned and ran quickly towards the crowded area, as if he feared Severo might backtrack and catch up with him.
…
Allyce returned and saw a car parked in front of the villa a short distance away.
She was a little surprised to see who had come to her again.
If it was Dita’s car, I would have driven it straight to the garage.
As he approached, he noticed that the car had a local number plate.
Looking towards the illuminated villa, Allyce stepped straight out of the car and handed the keys to the bodyguard guarding the door: “Park the car in the garage.
He had barely entered the living room when he heard Alonzo’s milky voice: “Dad, this is for you”.Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
There was a tinge of excitement in the little milk voice.
Allyce was speechless and walked in to see Alonzo sitting on the sofa with his back to her, kneeling, dressed in a powder blue plush nightgown, looking warm and cuddly, while opposite him sat Severo, a short distance between them, with a pile of toys.
Severo, still wearing the same suit he had worn earlier on the floor, bent his head slightly, with one hand holding a small mouse that Alonzo had just handed him, and with the other vainly watching Alonzo’s side, as if he feared it might fall to the ground.
The scene is unusually warm and harmonious.
Allyce’s footsteps stop as soon as they lighten.
He raised his hand and covered his lips, as if afraid that the slightest sound might disturb them.
She could not imagine how the man who had called her earlier had suddenly returned to the house.
It is like a dream.
Alonzo was playing so hard and sitting with his back to her that he naturally didn’t notice her return.
Severo looked up alertly and saw Allyce standing frozen in the doorway, clutching her bag in one hand and covering her lips with the other, as if she was about to walk forward and then stopped as if afraid of something, moving a little awkwardly.
He looked down and stroked Alonzo’s head, “Mummy’s back”.
“Huh?” Alonzo was confused for a moment before reacting to what he had said.
Children are mentally weak and sometimes, when they are concentrating on one thing and suddenly something else is mentioned to them, they will feel a bit overwhelmed.
Severo pointed behind him: “At the door”.
Alonzo turned his head and saw Allyce standing in the doorway. His dark eyes lit up instantly and he jumped off the couch with his short legs stretched out, but Severo was quick to catch him and wedge him in before releasing him.
Alonzo came running over and simply threw his arms around Allyce’s legs and called out to her with an uproar of voices: “Mummy’s back, Mummy, look, it’s Daddy …”.
He started to ramble on about what he and Severo were playing and doing, when in fact Severo was just sitting around playing with his toys for a while and could go on and on about it.
It was obvious that he was really happy.
Allyce’s heart sank a little, feeling that she and Severo had not been good parents and that she had always owed Alonzo something.
He took a deep breath before smiling as he picked him up and walked towards Severo.
She wanted to ask him why he had suddenly returned, but Severo didn’t wait for her to say anything before he reached out and took Alonzo in his arms.
However, the way he holds Alonzo is a bit scary.
Alonzo was still small and Severo’s palms were wide enough to put one hand on Alonzo’s back and the other on the small of his back, thus lifting him up and striding him up.
The moment he stood up, Alonzo held out his hands to Allyce in some alarm: “Mom …”
Severo intervened in time to reassure him: “It’s OK, Dad is holding on well and won’t fall.
He said, and slowed his steps a little.
Alonzo looked at him with dark eyes, his face still a little tense, but with his hands retracted and resting on Severo’s wrists, still fingering them a little.
Severo smiled at Alonzo’s obviously frightened, if anxious, look and reached over to lift him up, slipping his hands under his armpits and making him sit on his neck.
“Hold daddy’s head so you don’t fall off”.
No sooner had Severo’s words left his lips than he felt Alonzo’s soft hands. Alonzo’s small, tender hands pressed firmly against his forehead.
“Okay, now we’re going back to our room to shower and sleep, so hold on tight.” Severo said and ran off at a brisk pace.
Alonzo was relieved to find, after his initial nervousness, that he wasn’t really going to fall.
As she watched the two figures of father and son disappear down the stairs, Allyce could still hear Alonzo’s laughter.
He stood in the corridor for a long time, without looking back.
Until Dita came out of the kitchen, approached her and gave her a glass of water: “Have you eaten, madam?
In fact, Severo had just arrived a few moments before, and it was Alonzo who first saw him as he entered.
However, to his surprise, Alonzo immediately recognised Severo and took him by the hand and they played on the sofa.
He had just gone to the kitchen to get some water and was about to leave when he realised that Allyce had returned.
He went out quietly to have a look around, saw that Allyce looked different and decided it was best to wait before going out.
“Ate.” Allyce looked back, curved her lips into a smile, and asked, “Why didn’t you call me, I didn’t even know I was back.
Dita explained: “The boss just got back not long ago too, he was going to call you as soon as he finished pouring the water”.
Allyce sniffed and nodded.
