Part 91
Altezza couldn’t afford to get trapped. He couldn’t answer Jovanka’s questions recklessly because otherwise, his words would become weapons against him later.
“Pregnant? How could that be?” he asked with a mocking smile.
“You’re really heartless! After touching me, you just tossed me aside like that? Just because your parents didn’t approve of our relationship, you abandoned me just like that. How could you be so heartless?”
“Jovanka?!” Altezza growled softly. He truly didn’t understand the drama Jovanka was playing out, and why she brought her parents into it.
“If you really don’t want me anymore, there’s no point in me living.” Then somehow, the woman already had a small knife in her hand and swiftly sliced her wrist. Altezza was shocked, as were everyone else present.
“Jovanka?!” Altezza yelled as the woman’s body swayed. Altezza approached and reached for her body. He panicked when he saw blood flowing so profusely from Jovanka’s hand. “Get the car ready!” he shouted.
Altezza loosened his tie and quickly tied it around the girl’s arm, hoping his action could help a little.
He carried Jovanka’s body and took her to the car waiting in front of his office. He asked his driver to drive quickly to the nearest hospital.
Jovanka was rushed into the operating room, and Altezza waited. Evans-Jovanka’s manager-and Cindy-Jovanka’s personal assistant-arrived some time later.
They stood in front of the operating room, worried. It was understandable; Jovanka had lost a lot of blood, and now the doctor was stitching the torn wound on her wrist.
“We’ve successfully stitched her wrist,” said the doctor attending to Jovanka. “The wound was quite deep, and it seems the patient had taken medication prior to this.” The doctor glanced at Altezza. Altezza looked at Evans.
“She complained of a headache, so I gave her aspirin,” Cindy replied nervously.
The doctor nodded in understanding. “We’ve taken a blood sample. Because there’s a possibility the patient also consumed medication of another kind. I’ll inform you once the lab results are out. My advice for now is that you consult a psychiatrist about the patient’s condition. Because if a patient attempts suicide, there’s a psychological issue involved.” The doctor’s suggestion was met with a nod from Evans.
After the doctor left, Altezza stared sharply at Evans. “I don’t know how she could leave without my knowledge.” Evans tried to defend himself. “We were discussing the canceled contract issues from the employer as well as all the penalties Jovanka has to pay. She said she had a headache and wanted to sleep. I made sure she went to her room before I left; I didn’t know she would run to your place.”
Altezza continued to stare coldly at the man. “Of course, she left with a well-thought-out plan, Evans. She deceived you. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have come along with the journalists and disturbed me,” Altezza replied cynically.
Evans remained silent. He glanced at Cindy, who looked confused and nervous. “Do you know something?” Evans asked sharply.
“What?” The woman jumped. “Wh-what do you mean?”
“The business phone was with you after she snatched it from me. It’s clear there are journalist contacts in there. Who contacted them? You or her?”
Cindy looked at Altezza and Evans alternately. Both men stared at her sharply. Cindy paled, her head bowed instantly. She was truly scared, especially when Altezza gave her a cold-blooded killer look.
“She… she asked me to contact a certain name. She said she would give exclusive news to him. She asked me to send an address to that man. That’s it,” Cindy replied stuttering.
Altezza rubbed his temples. Evans did the same. Shortly after, a nurse pushed a gurney where Jovanka lay pale on it. Her hands were connected to IV tubes and blood transfusion.
“We’ll move the patient to the treatment room,” the nurse said. Evans, Altezza, and Cindy followed.
After seeing Jovanka’s condition, which Altezza deemed okay, he finally left. But Evans stopped him.
“Can we talk privately?” he asked. Altezza thought for a moment then nodded. “Contact me immediately if she wakes up. Or if she asks for something strange,” Evans instructed Cindy before leaving the VIP room.
Evans led Altezza to the quiet area of the hospital yard. “Speak quickly. I don’t want to waste my time,” Altezza said coldly.
“Are you really going to be like this to her? After six years together? Don’t you feel sorry for her?” Evans asked.
“What should I feel sorry for, Evans? I’ve done the best I could. I’ve given her chances. But she’s the one who always squandered the opportunities I gave her.”
“But not by destroying her like this, right?” Evans asked again.
Altezza frowned. What did Evans mean? Who was destroying whom?
Altezza hadn’t done anything to Jovanka at all. He wasn’t the type of petty man who would destroy someone just because he didn’t like them. Moreover, he was the one who had pushed Jovanka to succeed in the first place. How could he destroy her?Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
“I don’t understand what you mean?” Altezza asked.
“You threatened her, didn’t you forget? You asked her to stop all those stories.”
“I did,” said Altezza, and he did indeed threaten her, but it was all empty threats. “I did ask her to stop all of it. But she ignored it. That’s why my lawyer intervened,” Altezza replied frankly.
“Yes. I’ve received a legal notice from her too. But I didn’t expect you to act so extreme by asking employers to cancel all contracts and demanding Jovanka to pay all the penalties. She could go bankrupt, Al. There won’t even be anything left of her if she has to pay all the penalties from those contract cancellations.”
Altezza’s brow furrowed even deeper. He didn’t understand what Evans was saying. He had nothing to do with Jovanka’s job cancellations. He didn’t even know what kind of work she was involved in. If he had known, he wouldn’t have been caught off guard when Jovanka signed contracts behind his back.
And it seemed Evans knew he was talking to the wrong person. “You’re not behind all of this?” Altezza shook his head.
“I don’t even understand what you’re saying,” Altezza replied irritably. “If I knew who she was signing contracts with, do you think we would end up like this?” Altezza countered, making Evans even more convinced that Altezza had nothing to do with all of Jovanka’s contract cancellations.
“I’m leaving. I don’t want her to bother me again no matter what her problem is. We don’t have any relationship anymore, so sort out your own problems.” And Altezza truly left Evans to his confusion.
