Lysander furrowed her brows. “Are you sure it’s more appropriate for me to show up at the office in a dress and a pointed collar trench coat instead of professional attire? They might not mock me to my face, but the whispers behind my back…
At this point, she paused. It was as if she suddenly realized that while rumors might be unpleasant to hear, they couldn’t actually cause her any real harm.
She had already understood this principle back when she was working at the hospital.
Upon seeing Lysander’s seemingly enlightened expression, Josiah tidied up the dining table, then returned and said, “It’s not as if I wear a suit to work every day, but no one has ever dared to comment on my attire. It’s not that my outfit is so flawless that no one can find fault with it, but rather, these things simply aren’t important.”
He glanced toward the shoes placed at the entrance and added, “Besides, you’re not comfortable wearing high heels. If all you want is to make the right first impression on them, what you’ve done so far is enough”
This remark struck a chord with Lysander. Lately, she had been wearing high heels every day and it felt as though her feet were about to give out from all the walking.
“That’s easy for you to say, but only because you’re Josiah Guerra. Even if you went to the office in your pajamas, no one would dare to criticize you,” she retorted. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
“Perhaps you could look through all the clothes I’ve prepared for you before making a decision,” said Josiah. He had heard Lysander mention only the suit and the trench coat, and was certain that she had pushed his intentions to the back of her mind.
Lysander was in a hurry to prepare the things she needed to take with her, so she simply gave a casual nod before heading back to her room to change her clothes.
In the company, countless eyes were watching her, some eagerly waiting for her to trip up. She had been so busy lately that she often brought her work home. If she ever forgot her flash drive or documents at home, it would be a source of great amusement.
As Lysander pondered, her movements to open the wardrobe slightly faltered. Almost as if guided by an unseen force, she reached for the bag hanging nearby. Inside were the clothes mentioned by Josiah, which had been delivered here with her luggage.
Josiah had already had breakfast when he was in the kitchen learning to cook with Martha. In no time at all, he had washed the used dishes at an impressive speed, neatly placing them on the drying rack.
By the time Lysander had finished changing her clothes and emerged, he was already standing in the entrance hall, waiting for her as if nothing had happened.
Josiah looked at Lysander’s sharp suit and thin sweater underneath, expressing his approval by saying, “Not bad. You don’t have a meeting today, so you can spend more time outside the office and reinforce your image as the newly appointed CEO,”
Compared to the usual work attire, this outfit indeed exuded a more prominent aura of authority.
Lysander looked at her reflection and felt pleased with the outcome of her outfit. She slipped into a pair of matching colid–colored leather chose and caid “I menee thour l’il von the day where I’d adiner was catfir

based on your advice. You do have a good understanding of women.”
Josiah responded in a gentle tone, “It’s not a big deal. I just have to pay a little more attention.”
Lysander said methodically. “Thank you, but I must be going now.”
Josiah was ready and stepped forward, “Carol is already looking for a driver. Before the driver is officially hired, let me send you to the office instead. Consider it as helping Mr. Thorne check on the company’s situation. He definitely wants to know how you’re doing.”
Josiah had now stopped using his personal driver, all for the unyielding commitment of picking up and dropping off Lysander from work. The excuses he made up for doing so were increasingly elaborate, leaving no room for argument.
Considering the debt she owed to the Thorne family, Lysander felt she had no choice but to agree.
However, when she got in the car, she still chose to sit in the backseat.
Upon seeing this, Josiah didn’t comment any further. He simply reminded her to fasten her seat belt.
As always, Josiah drove with steady precision. On the journey, apart from occasionally discussing the latest financial news with her, he didn’t utter a single word about anything else.
Lysander listened attentively, yet her gaze would occasionally drift toward the window. Spotting a familiar office building, she instructed, “You can drop me off at the intersection ahead, I can walk the rest of the way myself.”
Josiah raised his eyebrows slightly and asked, “Are you worried about rumors spreading in the company?”
Surprisingly, he then parked the car by the side without arguing with Lysander.
“It’s never been easy for women in the professional world, particularly those who’ve achieved a certain status. There’s always someone who refuses to believe that her success is the result of her own hard work, instead attributing it to the exploitation of power and influence,” Lysander responded.
Josiah understood what she meant.
“Of course, even though I don’t rely on that, it would be bad if people saw us and started gossiping. It wouldn’t just be harmful to the reputation of Thorne Constructions and Energies, but also to the Thorne Constructions and Energies. Anyway, I should leave now. Thank you for sending me to work today.”
Josiah wanted to say he didn’t mind it one bit, but he never got the chance to voice his thoughts and simply stared at Lysander’s retreating figure.
Never mind. There’s always tomorrow. She doesn’t necessarily have to know everything I do for her.
As Lysander was walking to the office, she couldn’t help but feel relieved about her decision to change shoes. If she had continued wearing those previous high heels, she feared her ankles would have given out the moment she stepped into the office.
While there was certainly a personal motive in Josiah’s advice, it indeed proved to be useful.
Lysander pushed open the office door, coming face to face with the three individuals who had been waiting for her there in advance.

She paused for a moment, then tried to appear as natural as possible as she greeted the only person she recognized in the room, “Ms. Collins.”
“Ms. Thorne,” Carol greeted with a nod, then proceeded to introduce her to the two unfamiliar faces.
“This is the new driver, Skylar Goodwin. She’s in charge of your daily commute. If you need to go out at any time, please feel free to ask her. Also, this is your assistant, Monica Lambert. Feel free to delegate any tasks you need assistance with to her. Both of them were personally interviewed by Mr. Guerra and are highly reliable.”
The two of them were women. Skylar appeared younger than Lysander, likely a recent entrant into the workforce. On the other hand, Monica was about the same age as Carol. Not only did she come across as competent, but she also exuded a sense of steadiness.
Skylar’s workstation wasn’t around here. After exchanging greetings with Lysander, she naturally excused herself, leaving with Carol. This left her alone to converse with Monica.
Lysander was very polite to Monica. After inviting her to take a seat across the office desk, she asked, “May I call you Ms. Lambert?”
Monica nodded with a smile. “Of course, that’s no problem. I noticed that’s how you address Ms. Collins as well. I never thought I’d be on the same level with her one day.”
Lysander curiously asked, “Did you two know each other before?”
“It’s understandable if you don’t recognize me, Ms. Thorne. Even though I used to work for Thorne Constructions and Energies, I was in charge of the overseas branch office’s operations. So, technically. I was Mr. Josiah’s assistant, but the number of times I actually met with him each year could be counted on one hand. Here, it was Ms, Collins who was in charge of things.”
From Carol’s implication, it seemed that Monica, like driver Skylar, had joined Thorne Constructions and Energies business only after receiving approval from Josiah. Yet, she spoke so naturally, showing no signs of unfamiliarity typically associated with a new job.
It was clear that the assistants chosen by Josiah must have been exceptional in their work, that much was certain. Furthermore, her measured speech suggested she knew when to advance and when to retreat. It was evident that she would be of great use.
