Chapter 611 Finding An Excuse To Bring Josiah Along

Initially, these words seemed somewhat inappropriate. But for Lysander, they were exactly what she needed to return to her senses.

Lysander gently pushed Josiah away, Resting her hands on the railing, she looked up at the night sky and said, “Thank you.”

Josiah mumbled a response.

After a brief pause, Lysander managed to hold back her tears. She said, “I need you to promise me something. Pretend you didn’t hear anything tonight. Don’t mention it to anyone.”

Josiah nodded solemnly. “Okay, I’ve taken note. What are you planning to do next?” This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

“Let life take its course. Since Dad wishes that our family will be happy, I’ll choose to accompany him through the final stages of his life in the way he wants. As long as he’s happy, nothing else matters to me.

Lysander had already prepared for the worst–case scenario.

That night, Josiah spent a considerable amount of time with her on the terrace. It was only after she retreated to her room that he made his way back home.

Both of them spent the entire night without a wink of sleep.

The following morning, Josiah rose early in the morning. He accompanied Susan to visit the Thorne

manor.

Noticing how eager he was, Susan couldn’t help but tease him before they even entered the door, “If only you had put in half this effort earlier, you wouldn’t be in such a mess now. Regretting it yet?”

Without any pretense, Josiah directly admitted, “Yes, I regret it. That’s why I’m doing everything I can to make amends.”

He carried the breakfast that Susan had prepared at home. Following his mother, he entered the Thorne

manor

As expected, Lysander and Maverick were already up. They were chatting just like a family. After the candid discussion the night before, the two families were getting along quite well.

He could clearly see that Lysander’s eyes were red.

Even when she was smiling, her eyes didn’t reflect her joy. Although she was burdened with worries, she still had to put on a brave face in front of her father.

Watching her like this, Josiah felt his heart ache terribly.

“Susan, Josiah! You’re here,” greeted Howard.

Returning his senses, Josiah responded, “Yeah! My mom made breakfast and asked me to bring it over for

everyone.

“Oh my, Susan. I really can’t thank you enough for going through all this trouble”

are you waiting for?”

“Okay, I’m coming

Josiah brought the breakfast to the table and laid it out.

“Mr. Thome and Mrs. Thorne, my mom isn’t sure of what you prefer, so she made a variety of sandwiches. Give them a try! If they’re not to your liking, I can go out and buy something else.”

Laura responded nonchalantly to Josiah’s words.

Maverick leaned in for a closer look, then promptly remarked, “The sandwiches look great! They’re filled with vegetables and meat. This is quite a balanced meal.”

His attitude changed even faster than it had the night before.

Lysander noticed that Josiah behaved as if nothing had happened. He did not even spare an extra glance at Maverick. Only then did she feel relieved.

If Maverick were to find out that his illness was no longer a secret, there was a chance that his willpower, which had been holding him together till now, might crumble. She had worked in the hospital long enough to see enough instances of that.

The duration that a patient with late–stage cancer can endure depended not only on the treatment, but also on their beliefs.

As Lysander pondered, she almost gave herself away. Fortunately, she reacted quickly. She covered up her loss of composure by helping Michelle to the dining table.

“Mich, you should join us for dinner too.”

“Coming!”

Just like the previous evening, everyone gathered around the dining table and ate breakfast harmoniously.

Having prepared the dishes herself, Susan invited everyone to try her food. “I was simply bored being on my own over there. Seeing that there are so many of you here, I can’t help but join you.”

“Isn’t it great to have a crowd? At our age, the last thing we can stand is loneliness,” replied Howard with a

smile

Upon hearing this, Lysander quickly suggested, “The year is approaching an end. The company is planning a year–end party for the team. According to the proposal submitted by the logistics department, everyone seems to favor the idea of going to a spa resort. Since we need to go anyway, why don’t we all go together? It will be more lively with more people.”

Howard was aware of this tradition within the company. “Back when I was there, they would always look forward to traveling around at the end of the year. Nothing has changed.”

Josiah agreed, “Everyone has been working hard all year. It’s rare to have a chance to relax. Now that Lysander has just taken over the company, she should organize such events too.”

He subtly steered the conversation back to Lysander.

Lysander was worried that it might seem too abrupt to suddenly suggest bringing Maverick and Laura to

the spa resort. Hence, she broached the subject gradually. “The employees might not necessarily want to be together with the executives. If we all go together, we can have fun in separate groups. What do you

think?”

Michelle was the first to express her thoughts. “Sure, I’ve never been to a spa before.”

Seeing her so happy, Laura naturally nodded in agreement.

Upon noticing that his wife and daughter were interested in the spa, Maverick set aside his concerns and said, “Okay, let’s go then.”

When Howard and Susan exchanged a glance, they understood that they shared the same plan.

Opportunities like this were rare. Now that Maverick had relented, there would be no better chance than this to matchmake Lysander and Josiah.

With a smile, Howard said, “The spa resort is a great place for relaxation. We should all go together, including you, Susan. After all, it would be boring for you to stay at home alone. It would be more fun to join us all.”

Susan had initially wanted to join them on the trip, but was concerned about being a third wheel. Upon hearing this, she immediately agreed, “Great! Josiah, you must do your job as the driver well. We’re a bunch of old folks, so you can’t go too fast.”

This was simply an excuse to also involve Josiah.

Josiah immediately nodded. “Don’t worry. Just enjoy yourselves and leave the rest to me.”

Everyone seemed to have reached an agreement.

suppress

Lysander did her best to suppress the sadness welling up within her. Managing to force out a carefree smile, she said, “Well, it’s settled then. We’ll all set off from here when the time comes. See you soon!”

Time passed swiftly. Before they knew it, that day had arrived.

After a busy period, Lysander had already adapted to her work at Thorne Constructions and Energies. She organized the team–building activities impeccably. Monica set off with the rest of the employees, while she and Skylar were in charge of picking the others up at the Thorne manor.

Everyone else had already found out that she was Howard’s biological daughter. Hence, they couldn’t blame her for accompanying Howard and Josiah.

That morning, a group of people met at the entrance of the Thorne manor,

Josiah had intentionally driven an SUV that was perfect for long journeys. Not only did it have numerous seats, but the trunk was also impressively roomy. Seeing everyone together, he rolled up his sleeves without further ado and began moving the luggage.

After Michelle no longer needed to rely on crutches, she regained her lively and agile self. Molly’s condition had also improved significantly.

Everyone was making positive progress, except for Maverick.
