Blaine was worried that Lysander would follow in the footsteps of the previous doctors. Upon realizing the disparity between the development of the rural areas and the city, those doctors simply left without second thought.

Lysander was already committed to healing the sick and saving lives. Upon hearing Blaine’s words, she felt a–softness in her heart and assured him, “Rest assured, I should be able to stay here until the end of the year. In fact, I won’t leave within this year.”

Upon hearing these words, Blaine’s initial reaction was one of disbelief. “End of the year? R–Really?”

“If there are no other changes, that should be the case,” Lysander reassured him in a gentle voice. “As doctors, we stand by our words. You can confidently inform everyone that if they are feeling unwell, they can come straight to me. They need not worry about troubling me.”

Tears streamed down Blaine’s face immediately as he repeatedly exclaimed, “Sure! That’s good!”

Lysander chuckled and said, “However, I do have one more request. I hope you can agree to it.”

Blaine nodded, tears streaming down his face, his hands shaking with excitement, uncertain of where to place them. “Of course, I’ll agree! As a matter of fact, I’m sure everyone in the village will be more than happy to help you in any way possible!”

As the village chief, all he could do for his villagers at that moment was to figure out a way to retain this excellent doctor in their village.

Lysander uttered politely, “Could you please relay this to everyone? We appreciate the sentiment, and the nurses and I are grateful. However, we can only accept the gifts this one time. It’s not that we think less of the village’s offerings or that they don’t suit our tastes. It’s just that there are only four of us. We can’t possibly finish so much, and it would be a waste to see such good things go unused.”

She spoke earnestly, genuinely worried about the amount of items piled up in their dorm. Even if they included everyone in the health center, they still wouldn’t be able to consume everyone’s goodwill in a short amount of time.

Upon hearing this, Blaine pondered carnestly and responded, “How about I tell them about presenting a banner instead? I’ve seen it done on television, and there’s a shop in town that can make such banners. It wouldn’t be any trouble at all.”

“Absolutely not!” Lysander said, caught between laughter and tears. “It’s best if everyone just stays healthy.”

“All right…” Blaine was beaming, his eyes crinkling so much they seemed ready to burst into bloom with laughter.

Lysander was concerned about the nurses who were busy gathering those agricultural products. Seeing that Blaine seemed to be at ease, she took the initiative to say, “In that case, I can rest easy now.”

Blaine chuckled and nodded, about to share with her the secret of making their homemade cured meat, when a young boy, who looked no older than seven or eight, dashed past the small building like a gust

wind.

The child, who lived in the same area as Blaine, opened his wide, round eyes and exclaimed, “Grandpa! We have a visitor in the village!”

Blaine asked with a hint of confusion, “This isn’t a holiday or anything. Has someone’s relative returned home?”

“Nobody knows him!” the little boy said excitedly, shaking his head. “He drives a particularly large and beautiful foreign car. No one in our village has a car like that. It’s just like the cars you see on TV, and everyone has gone over to see the carl”

As he spoke, he gestured with his hands. Unfortunately, because of his tender age, even when he fully extended his arms, they were still not as long as the car door.

Blaine was utterly perplexed. “How did such a fine car end up in our village? Could it have taken a wrong turn? Come on, lead the way. Let’s go have a look.”

After dealing with the young boy, he turned to Lysander with a full measure of apology. “Dr. Thorne, I’m really sorry. Everyone has gone to the village entrance, and I need to get over there as soon as possible. I’ll have to take my leave now.”

“Okay.”

Blaine took a couple of steps and turned back around. “Dr. Thorne, why don’t you come with me?”

Lysander blinked. “What’s wrong?”

“Suddenly, I recalled, probably three or four years ago, a big–shot businessman came by. He mentioned something about developing our area into a tourist spot. However, I couldn’t quite grasp what he was saying about contracts. Could you possibly accompany me? If this place really turns into a tourist spot, it would be a great boon for our village!”

Upon hearing this, Lysander nodded. “All right, I’ll go with you.”

“That’s great!”

As Blaine led her a few steps away, Lysander suddenly remembered something.

“What’s the matter, Dr. Thorne?”

Lysander asked the child leading the way, “Did you notice the emblem on that beautiful car?”

The little boy shook his head. “I didn’t recognize the emblem.”

“How about the design?”

“It has many letters, and right in the middle, there’s a horse with its head held high, so tall and so beautiful!”

It’s a Porsche. Half of Lysander’s suspicions had already been confirmed in her heart.

“What about the color?”

White.”

Lysander sighed deeply when she heard that

Even from the moment she had quietly left the hospital, she knew that Josiah was never one to obediently follow orders.

She had been there for over ten days. Given Josiah’s capabilities and speed, finding her here wouldn’t have been too difficult.

Having waited so many days before going over, it could be considered as giving her some alone time.

Since he’s already here, I might as well meet him. Lysander took the initiative to hold the little boy’s hand, and together with Blaine, they headed toward the entrance of the village.

The village wasn’t particularly large, with numerous farmlands scattered throughout. There were plenty of paths for the villagers to use, but they were either narrow dirt roads that could only accommodate two or three people walking side by side or rough, gravel–strewn roads that made even a trike ride jarringly bumpy. The only road suitable for cars was the one at the entrance of the village.

Under the guidance of a lively young boy, Lysander quickly noticed the bustling scene at the entrance of the village. The villagers had all come out of their homes, some even leaving their half–harvested vegetables carelessly draped over their arms, drawn to a rare scene in their village.

Blaine moved a bit slow, but as soon as he appeared, all the villagers, except for the children, instinctively made way for him. Anyone who could drive such a fine car was bound to be extraordinary, and in their village, only the village chief was qualified to welcome such a person.

As the crowd parted, Josiah, who was standing next to the car, came clearly into Lysander’s view.

Lysander wasn’t surprised when she saw him. However, she didn’t utter a word. All she did was let go of the little boy’s hand as he ran toward his friends, and then she stood there, silently observing along with the villagers

Josiah was dressed in a stibtly colored suit, which, despite its understated hue, still stood out strikingly in the village. He was completely surrounded by a group of children, unable to move.

The children were not the least bit shy. Having never seen the adults around them wear suits in reality, they found Josiah, dressed in his formal attire, as intriguing as a person from another world. Overflowing with curiosity, they bombarded him with all sorts of questions.

“Mister, are you an actor who stepped out from the television screen?”

“Mister, what’s that shiny thing on your sleeve?”

“Mister, why is there a split on your jacket? Has the seam come undone?”

Josiah listened to their overlapping questions, the queries so disorganized they couldn’t even agree on how to address him. He was at a loss for how to respond, so he vaguely said, “I’m here looking for someone. I’m not someone who just stepped out of a television screen. The shiny object is a cufflink. This is part of the clothing design, intentionally crafted by the tailor…”

He had lived for over thirty years, and for the first time, he experienced the feeling of holding back from attacking for fear of hurting the wrong person. Behind him, a child was cautiously touching his clothes with their little hands, still dirty from playing with mud. Consequently, a few muddy handprints appeared on his suit

Yet, they were all such innocent and ado
