His Beloved Ex-Wife

Chapter 670

Chapter 670 Do As I Say

Even though Josiah was once renowned from Harborbrook Fifth High School, known for his strength and fighting prowess, he was still outnumbered. After all, it was hard to fight off multiple attackers with just two fists. Moreover, his opponents were seasoned hooligans, frequently involved in home invasions.

These individuals, emboldened by the backing of Dillon, dared to harm even a university student who had threatened to expose them. And this time, they had explicitly stated their intention to make an example out of Josiah.

Lysander tried to calm herself, but her heart was pounding relentlessly. It felt as if it was about to leap out of her throat, causing her torment.

Regardless of the past grievances she had with Josiah, he had indeed stepped forward to save her and Rhizone by the lake. It was against both her emotions and sense of justice to stand by and watch him get

into trouble.

Lysander opened her contact list, finding the number of an owner she once believed she would never cross paths with again in her lifetime.

It wasn’t long before dawn, yet the speed at which the other party answered the phone was surprisingly quick.

“Lysa, why are you still awake at this late hour? Is there something urgent you need from me?” Tiffany feigned innocence, her tone making Lysander shudder.

She leaned against the headboard of her bed in her own room, her delicate face devoid of any expression.

Lysander didn’t beat around the bush with her and asked straightforwardly, “Did you know that your father has been conning people, exploiting the reputation of the Guerra Group, with complete disregard for human life?”

“Goodness! Lysa, you hold no grudge against my father. Why would you tarnish his reputation like this? If you have any issues, take it out on me instead. Don’t-”

“It seems that you know,” Lysander coldly interrupted her pretense. “Tiffany, is there any point in pretending any longer? That look you gave me on the street the last time we bumped into each other was the real you, wasn’t it? I saw it all. Do you think I’ll suddenly lose my memory and let you deceive me again?”

After a brief silence, Tiffany spoke again, her voice filled with confusion. “Lysa, what are you talking about? I really don’t understand. As for what happened last time… it’s okay if you don’t want to tell me where Jose went. I won’t blame you for it.”

She was incredibly cautious. She was fearful that Josiah might be right next to Lysander at that moment and worried that Lysander might actually be recording their conversation. She planned to feign ignorance

until the end.

Time was of the essence. Lysander couldn’t afford to waste time with her.

She continued, “Jose is now surrounded by your father’s men. As for who they are specifically, just ask him what he did to the villagers by the lake in the mountain, and he should understand. If he doesn’t, it’s fine. I’ve already called the police.”

Tiffany to ponder the rest. However, Tiffany quickly called back. This time, she shed her pretense of being an innocent little girl, her voice taking on an especially ominous tone.

“How did you guys end up going to that place, together no less? Lysa, you wouldn’t be trying to trick me, would you? Is there someone else with you? A cop, or maybe Jose?”

Tiffany had always been eager to discern the whereabouts of Josiah, but ever since their engagement was annulled, he had ceased to acknowledge her. Upon learning that he had not been present at the company recently, she thought of having her father secure some advantages for their family first.

Unexpectedly, fate had a twist in store, causing these two events to collide.

Should Josiah become aware that Dillon had the audacity to oppress the vulnerable under the pretense of his status as his father–in–law, his unyielding character would likely lead him to disregard their families‘ enduring relationship.

Tiffany mused with a hint of unease, deciding it would be better to go all in rather than half–heartedly.

Lysander, seemingly moved, spoke again. Her tone was incredibly serious as she warned, “The reason I called you was not just for you to back off, but there’s another motive. If Josiah and any other villagers encounter any trouble tonight, your father will be held responsible, and I will personally testify against him. Tiffany, if you don’t want your father to end up in jail, do as I say.”

After she laid out her demands, she hung up the phone without waiting for Tiffany to respond. This time, Tiffany didn’t call back. It was unclear whether she had gone to consult with Dillon for a strategy or if she had decided to swallow her pride and comply with her demands.

When a faint glimmer of light could be seen on the horizon, Rhizone raced back to the health center.

Instantly, Lysander became restless, her anxiety overtaking her as she asked Rhizone, “What’s the situation in the village?”

“The police and the people you mentioned would come to help have already arrived.” This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.

A spark of hope ignited in Rhizone’s heart when he saw so many people arrive in the village. Perhaps, this time, the village could truly be saved.

After a moment of calm, Lysander asked again, “What about Josiah? Have you found him?”

With a worried expression, Rhizone shook his head. “We haven’t found him yet. I rushed back to tell this. But the bad guys who were chasing us have all disappeared.”

He recalled the scene he had witnessed by the lake, looking troubled.

A child’s face is a poor mask for secrets. Almost instantly, Lysander picked up on the unusual vibes and cautiously asked, “Did you see something? Tell me.”

As she spoke, she braced herself against the table, preparing to rise. The pain was akin to walking on the sharp edge of a glass, but she paid it no mind.

Startled, Rhizone momentarily pushed aside the matter that Nilou had told him not to mention.

“Dr. Thorne, you must avoid the lake at all costs right now. It’s in utter chaos over there. The lotus flowers that were once blooming beautifully are now a complete mess, with the flowers and seed pods all gone.”

In the afternoon, she had just gone boating in the lake with Josiah. The lush lotus flowers couldn’t have possibly become bare all of a sudden unless someone had intentionally caused damage or a fierce fight had taken place.

Rhizone realized that he had misspoken, but it was too late. Lysander had already heard him. There was no way he could take back his words, so he nervously added a few more in an attempt to clarify.

“Dr. Thorne, please try not to worry too much at the moment. The police are scouring the lake, diligently working to find out whatever happened.”

He hadn’t seen Josiah and was anxious and afraid as well. Still, he was just a child. Upon seeing the police, he placed his hope in them.

Everything went dark before Lysander’s eyes.

Scouring the lake?

She struggled to get down and walk away, almost experiencing the same pain as the Little Mermaid when she first came ashore.

The wounds caused by the rough stones and wild grass were incredibly small, barely noticeable at the time of injury. Yet, once she settled down, the sensation differed entirely, especially when she was already drenched in cold sweat from anxiety.

Every wound on her body was throbbing with acute pain, causing her complexion to turn deathly pale instantly. It was a terrifying sight to behold.

Upon seeing the situation, Rhizone was taken aback, becoming even more determined to stop Lysander from leaving. “Dr. Thorne, when Josiah parted ways with us last night, he entrusted your safety to me. 1 have to protect you. I can’t let you go out.”

Lysander’s voice trembled as she said, “I won’t encounter any danger. Aren’t the police and those offering help all by the lake? I’m just going to take a look.”

“No way.” Rhizone stood firm in front of her, shaking his head resolutely. “The adults won’t allow kids to watch over there. They’ve shooed my sister and me away. You shouldn’t go either.”

His thought process was quite straightforward as he assumed that the adults had forbidden them from lingering by the lake out of fear for their safety.

Yet, deep down, Lysander knew very well that if it were truly for that reason, Josiah wouldn’t still be missing up to this point.

Before they had parted ways last night, he had clearly stated that he would join them shortly.

“No, I have to go.”
