His Beloved Ex-Wife

Chapter 682

Chapter 682 Seeking Matrimony

Lysander found it adorable and squatted down to pet its cad. Amidst the soft purring, she said, “They say people who keep pets at home are particularly attractive to small animals. I never thought it would be

true.”

She hadn’t spent time with her own cat for quite a while. As she looked at the lion cat in front of her, she suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of guilt toward it, a faint glimmer of remorse evident in her eyes.

“Had I known so much would happen later on, I really shouldn’t have adopted a pet by impulse. Looking back, I have truly let down White Coat and the kitten you gave me. White Coat is in a better situation with Dr. Sutton taking care of it. He loves animals, so I’m sure it is in good hands. As for the kitten, I wonder how it is doing?”

Before her departure, Lysander had already exerted a great deal of effort to ensure that everything concerning those around her was taken care of. She didn’t mention anything about the kitten at home, purely because she knew Josiah would look after it. At that time, she never imagined that they would meet again so soon. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

Upon hearing her address Adrian as Dr. Sutton, a wave of joy washed over Josiah. He replied warmly, “Don’t worry, the Ragdoll kitten is being well taken care of. Before I left, I picked it up from the pet store and handed it over to my mother. She was delighted when she saw it, saying it was like having another child in the house.”

“I’m glad to hear that Madam Susan can also some company.”

Lysander gently scratched the Chausie’s chin, feeling as if she had put another worry to rest. She took the opportunity to lift the cat for a quick check–up. Seeing that it was healthy and had even been neutered, she then set it free.

Josiah watched her interact with the Chausie with great interest before saying, “The cat at home has everything it needs now. It just lacks a name. How about you give it one?”

Over a month had passed, and the once palm–sized kitten had grown into a fluffy ball of fur, so plush it could serve as a scarf.

“Did you not name it?” Lysander asked, somewhat surprised.

Naming something implies a bond. She had always thought she was only temporarily taking care of the Ragdoll kitten. She planned to give it back to Josiah once they stopped contacting each other. Unexpectedly, not only did they not sever their ties, but it also grew deeper.

It really was a case of fate playing tricks on people.

With a serious expression, Josiah replied, “I wanted to give it a nice name, but I’m not really creative with this kind of thing. So, I thought I’d wait for you to name it.”

Lysander fell silent.

When she used to take White Coat to the pet store for grooming, she was often met with looks of surprise from the staff who handled the registrations. Almost every one of them would double–check with her to confirm White Coat’s name.

As time passed, she gained experience and learned to explain it plainly. The other party wouldn’t

comment further but this was enough to show how unusual the net’s name was ‘

Lysander hadn’t expected anyone to appreciate her knack for naming pets. Seeing Josiah’s trust in her, she responded. “I’m really not that good at naming them, you know. Even White Coat was a name I gave on a whim.”

“You’re its owner. You can name it whatever you want.”

“Don’t blame me when such a cute little kitten ends up with

“I won’t,” said Josiah. “It’s not like the name belongs to me.”

Imary name”

The pair spent some time in the courtyard, amusing themselves with the cat. When the spot to ask for a sign from the deities across the courtyard finally opened up, they moved over to familiarize themselves. with the process.

Within the church, there resided an elderly man whose hair and beard were all white. He was likely the one responsible for interpreting the signs from the deities. Seeing the two of them as first–time visitors, he took the initiative to approach and guide them. “If you wish to draw a sign, simply kneel on the cushion and silently recite your wish in your heart, then shake the container. The interpretation of the signs is on the wall,” he explained.

He gestured toward the rows of signs hanging on the side and said, “They are all numbered. If you want to draw a sign, just put some money into the donation box or you can use the QR code to make a payment.”

The charity box was updated to keep up with the times, now featuring a QR code.

Josiah decisively scanned the code, ready to pay for Lysander’s portion as well. However, he heard her say, “I think it’s better if we pay separately. Otherwise, what if the deity thinks both wishes were made by you?” Her point made sense, immediately causing Josiah to halt his action.

Lysander scanned the QR code to pay before sincerely kneeling on the cushion. She thought of her family, her deceased child, and her foster father who had passed away. She didn’t pray for herself, but wished for their peace and wellbeing in heaven.

As she shook the container, a sign fell out. It was labeled with the number eighty–seven.

After examining it, the old man chuckled and said, “You’re quite lucky. That’s a very auspicious sign. The inscription signifies great blessing and protection upon you and your family.”

As he spoke, he tore off the slip of paper that contained Lysander’s interpretation and handed it over to her.

Lysander held a thin piece of paper, which seemed to bring her comfort as she carefully folded it and put it away.

Upon seeing her draw an auspicious sign, Josiah was genuinely happy for her. When it was his turn to draw, his mind was filled with thoughts of her, resulting in him drawing an average sign.

Upon noticing a subtle change in his expression, Lysander softly said, “Even though I’m not sure what you’re seeking, didn’t you say it before? If things don’t go as you wish, you would trust in science.”

The words of comfort were certainly expressed in a unique way.

“This is number twenty–two. It’s a mediocre sign but not too bad,” the elder consoled him before continuing to interpret it.

“The sign implies a drought where everything withers, but then the rain pours down in the summer. It signifies the idea that even after a long drought, there is always a chance for a turnaround. By the way. young man, what is it that you were wishing for?”

Josiah let out a soft sigh and said, “I was wishing for a happy

It was rather rare to see a man visiting the church to pray for that.

The elderly man paused for a moment, but didn’t seem too surprised. Instead, he stroked his beard and said. It’s alright. I understand. Things are different now in this new age, even the traditional roles of men and women have changed.”

He looked at Lysander with an appreciative gaze.

Considering that they were in the middle of interpreting the sign. Lysander felt the need to be honest. She took the initiative to explain, “What I prayed for was not a successful career, but the safety and peace of my family, be it those who are still with me or those who have departed”

As she spoke, her expression turned extremely serious, carrying a hint of subtle sorrow in her eyes. However, with the passage of time, it wasn’t as intense as before.

The old man had spent the majority of his life taking care of the church, essentially detaching himself from worldly concerns. He expressed his sympathy and said, “When your heart is sincere, miracles can happen. Given your devotion, they are bound to be safe and at peace, and all your wishes will come true.”

“It’s enough for them to be safe and at peace. As for getting my desires… I dare not ask for too much. After all, misfortune will come to those who are greedy.” After Lysander lost Maverick, it seemed as if she matured further. Her mindset was a lot more composed.

The old man greatly admired her mindset, praising her for her wisdom. After exchanging a few words with her, he continued to interpret Josiah’s sign.

“For your mediocre sign, it carries a message that has good and bad possibilities. Given that you’re asking about your marriage, whether it turns out to be good or bad is essentially in your own hands. Your actions will shape the result. That’s what it means.”

While nodding, Josiah made a mental note of what the old man said, then discreetly placed the signed document and the wedding ring he carried with him into his pocket.

As long as his fate was in his own hands, he had nothing to worry about. Even if there was only a sliver of hope, he would hold onto it tightly.

Upon discovering that he was praying for a marriage, Lysander was not surprised. It was only after they had stepped outside that she asked, “You were praying for a partner?”

“Mmm–hmm,” Josiah looked at her, noticing that she wasn’t resisting or ignoring him like she used to. He spoke softly. “Even though I’ve been rejected by you countless times, I still haven’t given up. I wonder what the deities would say.”
