Chapter 694
Chapter 694 Multiple Emotions
Having gone through turbulent times together, their discomfort in the car had significantly eased compared to before. Seeing his impressive skills, their eyes simultaneously lit up.
“Josiah, Mr. Alvarez and my parents said that you are a big shot from the city, exceptionally formidable. However, big shots rarely do things themselves. They usually just order others around. You are quite different from them.”
Due to her experiences with Dillon’s underlings, Nilou held a rather negative impression of the profession of being a big shot.
Given that Josiah was taking them to study in Harborbrook, it was no longer feasible to conceal his identity. He admitted honestly, “In fact, I am the CEO of Guerra Group. However, I have no knowledge of the village affairs. If I hadn’t come here this time, I would probably have remained in the dark for a long time.”
As soon as these words fell, the atmosphere in the car seemed to freeze instantly.
Lysander observed the siblings’ reactions, ready to step in and explain. However, before she could do so, Nilou, with her eyes wide and shimmering, said, “Josiah, I trust you. You and Dr. Thorne are good people.”
Rhizone was a boy of few words, so he merely nodded in response. However, his gaze was filled with unwavering determination.
Relief washed over Lysander immediately. Throughout their journey, they engaged in numerous conversations about future aspirations and dreams.
Upon reaching Guerra Group, Lysander asked Josiah about his plans. “What are we going to do about Nilou and Rhizone when we visit Ms. Lionhart?” she asked.
Nieva had received news of their return to Harborbrook that day and was already waiting for them in advance at Guerra Group.
After some thought, Josiah said, “They’re coming with us.”
Nilou gazed at the towering skyscrapers outside the car window, her eyes filled with curiosity as she asked, “Josiah, are you going to discuss a big business deal? Can we come along?”
Feeling somewhat apprehensive, she held Rhizone’s hand tightly, uncertain if they should get out of the car.
Josiah smiled, gently ruffled Rhizone’s hair, and said, “Let’s go.”
The two children obediently nodded, each being led by her and Josiah into Guerra Group.
Nieva was in the lounge with Aurora, gazing out the floor-to-ceiling windows, when she saw them arrive with two children. Her eyes widened in surprise. “Whose kids have you brought here?” she asked.NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
Josiah softly replied, “Mine.”
“Tsk! How could that be-” Nieva’s face changed instantly. “Have you been hiding your illegitimate children? They aren’t even little kids!”
Josiah looked at her, seemingly convinced, and let out a snicker. “Just a joke. Why would I have such old kids?”
Nieva placed a hand over her heart, letting out a sigh of relief. “Well, it’s hard to say. After all, you men don’t have to go through nine months of pregnancy. The sudden appearance of a child isn’t entirely out of the question.”
“What’s the matter? Has Elio’s mistress gotten pregnant?”
Originally, Josiah’s words were merely a jest, yet the color immediately drained from Nieva’s face. Her fingers tightly entwined as she whispered, “She’s dead.”
Upon hearing these words, both Josiah and Lysander were somewhat taken aback.
Nieva gave a bitter smile. “Suicide.”
“Why so sudden?”
“You suspect that I forced her?” Nieva gave a cold laugh. “No wonder I was the first one the police suspected when they arrived. But unfortunately, her death has nothing to do with me. She was Elio’s mistress for a few years, but I knew about it all along. If I wanted to act, I wouldn’t have waited until now.”
“What exactly happened?”
“After completely losing his senses, he doesn’t even care about my parents anymore. I’m afraid he might harm the child, so I’ve decided to leave the child here with you for a while. At the very least, if Elio loses control again, he wouldn’t dare to cause trouble here.”
Lysander instantly sensed something unusual. “Is Elio planning to harm you? Can you ensure your personal safety?”
Nieva chuckled softly. “After all, I am the daughter of the Lionhart family. No matter how audacious he is, he wouldn’t dare kill me, right? Don’t worry. I just want to take my parents abroad for a while. They have always been supportive of Elio, thinking our relationship was strong. They even saw him as a second son, to the point of entrusting him with the company. However, Elio has now lost his senses. If they found out he had a mistress, they would surely confront him for my sake. I don’t want things to escalate.”
Lysander quickly understood.
As a daughter herself, she could deeply relate.
Upon seeing Lysander’s expression, Josiah said, “Okay. Leave Aurora with me. You can take your parents abroad for a change of scenery without any worries. Elio is a smart man. Once he gets over this wave of grief, he’ll know how to make the right choice.”
“Indeed, you’re right. Initially, he abandoned the woman he loved to marry me for the sake of his family. Now that he’s successful, he’s desperately trying to make it up to her. He always knows what to do and when to do it.”
Lysander comforted, “Don’t be too hard on yourself. Now that you have a child, when things settle down, focus on living a good life with your child and raising her.”
“Yes.” When Aurora was mentioned, Nieva instantly softened. “I’m not demanding anything now. I gave him the company, I gave him everything. I even signed divorce papers a while back to give his first love a rightful place. I knew this day would come, but I never expected that girl would actually commit suicide.”
Lysander asked, “What did the police say? Has the forensic doctor reached a conclusion?”
“If it was indeed a suicide, did she leave any notes or diary entries? If there were any, wouldn’t it prove your innocence? After that, Elio wouldn’t be able to blame everything on you.”
At this point, Nieva lowered her head, a sense of desolation washing over her, but above all, it was a feeling of helplessness that dominated. “There’s a suicide note. I proposed a divorce to Elio, but she felt that if we were to divorce, Elio’s control over Lionhart Group would be illegitimate. She feared many would make life difficult for him, and everything he had worked hard for would go down the drain. Moreover, it would mean he would be separated from Aurora forever. She believed her existence forced Elio into this impossible decision, so she did it for Elio. That’s why she…”
Josiah let out a sigh. “She is indeed a hopeless romantic.”
“Yeah, I’ve seen that girl before. She was quite adorable and genuine, simple-minded, and rather attractive. No wonder Elio couldn’t forget her all these years. However, her death has become an everlasting pain in Elio’s heart. He’ll never forget her in his lifetime.”
Indeed, no one could ever forget the pure first crush that willingly chose to die for one’s sake.
Elio harbored feelings of love, pain, guilt, and even hatred in his heart.
He harbored resentment toward himself and equally toward Nieva and Aurora.
