Chapter 34
Chapter 34 Evadne’s pupils contracted fiercely, her chest felt tight with tension. She locked eyes with Thaddeus. Her usually beautiful eyes were now burning with fury, enough to have made anyone’s heart s kip a beat. It was intense enough that Thaddeus could hardly look away. After a while, Evadne laughed, her gaze icy as if they’d never met. “So, Mr. Thaddeus, you’re here to vent for your Acacia, huh? You’re so pis sed off. Are you planning to unload it on me, or are you gonna blow up? “Thaddeus, you’ve crossed the line. Three years of love, I don’t expect you to remember the good times, but you shouldn’t belittle me with such insulting words. Besides, I’m not your wife anymore. No, you never actually made me your wife. I was like a stray cat, waiting for you to take me home. I had high hopes, but all I got in return was your cold rejection. “Am I supposed to endure your heartless tram pling? No way! “Unfortunately for you, even though you’ve got the upper hand, you might not be able to solve the predicament the Stirling Group is in. Because of Ives’ crimes, including infringing the K Group’s interests, bribery, forgery, and defamation, there’s concrete evidence. Saving him is a lost cause.” Evadne’s gaze sharpened, but her smile was enchanting. “You can’t turn the situation around, so you can mess with my personal life, and continue mocking and humiliating me. And I’m not gonna play by your rules. I fight for what I want and let go, without hesitation, of what I don’t. “I don’t care what others think of me, even you. I want the Stirling Group to go bankrupt, to pay for their actions, and I’ll stop at nothing. No one can stop me!” Thaddeus tensed under his suit, his veins bulging. With someone by her side, she was standing tall and speaking boldly! He knew she was wrong but didn’t know how to refute. He was angry not because she used the Ashbourne group brothers to punish the Stirling Group. It was seeing her laughing with Arnold, and her smile blooming like a flower, that set his mind spinning.
“You shameless!” Thaddeus’ breath hitched, and he spat out the words. Evadne laughed carelessly, a sting to his eyes. “Even if I am shameless, what’s it to you? I’m free to do
what I want, and you have no right to blame me.” There was no need for further conversation, so she coldly turned to leave. Unexpectedly, Thaddeus grabbed her just-healed arm unwillingly, his grip startlingly strong. *Ouch…let me go!” Evadne winced in pain but didn’t dare struggle, afraid of tearing the wound. “Ilana, you know what role I play in your heart.” Thaddeus’ voice was h oa se, his eyes filled with intense probing. It was as if they were gamblers at a casino, his desire to win making him think hard, and trying to see through her cards. Evadne laughed in anger. “What else could you be, a good-for-nothing ex-husband!” *Ilana!” Thaddeus’ eyes filled with rage. *Thaddeus! Let go of me!” Suddenly, a tall figure appeared in front of Evadne, forcefully pushing Thaddeus away, and shielding her behind him. “Jason, I’m fine, he was just talking to me,” Evadne rea**ured Jason, showing no fear. “Talk? He was touching your injured arm! You were complaining about the discomfort the night before, isn’t this all his fault?” Jason glared at Thaddeus, radiating a dangerous aura. Thaddeus’ heart jolted, and his fingers that had just touched her curled up. Evadne watched Jason, whose face was red with anger, feeling somewhat helpless. She didn’t feel the need to say this in front of Thaddeus. “You’re, Cas sius’ secretary?” Thaddeus recognized Jason at a glance, his face darkened. “Yes, but now I’m her…” Evadne tugged at him hard, her eyes signaling him to shut up. Jason immediately caught on and held his tongue. “Cas sius gave you his most trusted secretary. He’s really good to you.” Thaddeus hid his complicated emotions. His face was cold as stone, and he sneered, “Congratulations, marrying into a wealthy family again. I was fooled by you before, now it’s Cas sius’ turn. I wish you luck in keeping him in the dark.” His every word was like a sharp sword, piercing Evadne’s heart, then twisting it with force. Jason
Immediately noticed that Evadne’s breathing was unsteady, her shoulders trembling slightly. But he was more confused about Thaddeus’ words. What was he talking about? “Jason, let me reintroduce you.” Evadne took a deep breath, hiding all her pain, and smiled, “This is Mr. Thaddeus of the Abernathy Group, my ex-husband.” “What…” Jason was thunderstruck, his face pale. Evadne had been missing for three years. So she was married to Thaddeus?! They kept it a secret from the world, from the Ashbourne group, and she became Thaddeus’ wife?! Why?! “But we’re divorced now, I left with nothing, and have no connection with the Abernathy Group. We’ll be strangers the next time we meet.” “We’re not officially divorced yet! Grandpa’s birthday…” “Enough! Stop using Grandpa as an excuse!” Evadne suddenly exploded, and her eyes were red with anger. “Isn’t it because Grandpa asked us to maintain our marriage until his birthday that you dare to humiliate me like this? Isn’t it because I care about Grandpa?!” Thaddeus shuddered as if his ex-wife’s sharp words had bitten him hard, the pain left him breathless. When had Ilana ever been this pis sed off? In his memory, she never lost her temper. She was like a cotton puff. No matter how hard you hit, it wouldn’t trigger her emotions. But this time, her face was full of anger, and her eyes were full of hatred. “Our relationship was barely hanging on. It was you who ended our love. It was you who cheated during our marriage, but did I ever blame you? How dare you make me suffer the pain of losing a partner and still expect me to stay faithful? Do you want me to stay single all my life? How could you be so selfish!” Selfish? Thaddeus felt a pang in his chest. He didn’t even know he was slowly losing control of his actions. He didn’t understand why he was so obsessed with her. “Besides, I’ve always kept my word, I promised to keep our divorce secret until Grandpa’s birthday. It was you who screwed up and let Acacia spill the beans.” Evadne gave a bitter smile and pulled at the corners of her mouth. Her expectations for Thaddeus vanished. “Now you’re blaming me. I canContentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
understand because you can only blame me. You can’t possibly blame Acacia, right?” Thaddeus was stiff all over as if he had been frozen by the wind. He watched helplessly as Jason helped his ex-wife leave. His cheeks were burning as if he had been slapped countless times. Thaddeus clenched his fist in the air. He was the one who gave her up first. Why did he feel like he was the one who was dumped? His throat was filled with bitterness, it felt like his heart had been pierced…
