Chapter 179: That's Fate
Chapter 179: That's Fate
“Cristofer, behave yourself, or I’ll get out of the car right now!” “I mean no offense,” Cristofer said with a sigh and drew back his hand. “I just want to help you fasten the seat belt... Just like what I always did in the past.” “No, thanks. I can do it myself,” Estelle said coldly. Cristofer didn’t say anything more and started the car. Then the car slowly drove away from the hospital and nosed its way into the traffic. It happened to be the rush hour, and there were many cars on the main road of the city. As a result, they were stuck in a traffic jam. Sitting in the familiar car, Estelle couldn’t help but think about the past. When she was studying abroad, Cristofer went to see her often. But every time they met, they didn’t have much time to spend with each other. As a couple in a long-distance relationship, they cherished every second they stayed together. They would feel overjoyed even if they just sat and snuggled up against each other quietly without doing anything else. In most cases, both of them were always very busy and didn’t even have the time to choose the place to date. Therefore, they always dated in Cristofer's car. Every time Cristofer went to see her, he would park his car at the gate of her university and wait for her. Knowing his coming, Estelle would rush out of the classroom immediately when the class was over, run to the gate, and look for his black Porsche. And after getting into the car, she would throw herself into his arms happily and hold him tightly like a koala. Cristofer then would hug her and tell her how much he missed her. And the atmosphere in the narrow car was sweet and affectionate. At that time, Estelle was always careless and forgot to fasten the seat belt, so Cristofer would habitually fasten the seat belt for her before starting the car. As time went by, she got used to letting Cristofer do it for her. However, it had been six years since the last time Cristofer fastened the seat belt for her. She didn’t
expect that he still had such a habit, so when Cristofer approached her just now, she mistakenly thought he wanted to hurt her and overreacted. Somehow, Estelle always remembered the past between Cristofer and her. Realizing this, she wrenched her mind back to the present and shook her head, persuading her heart not to think about the meaningless past. Then she lowered her head, fastened the seat belt, and looked out of the window. “Estelle, you don’t have to be so wary of me,” Cristofer suddenly uttered. Without looking at him, Estelle said in a low voice, “I’m not wary of you. We are going to divorce and will have nothing to do with each other soon. We’d better keep a distance.” “We won’t have anything to do with each other. At least... we are still connected by the children.” “Speaking of which, if I get custody of the children, I won’t deprive you of your visitation rights. If you want to see them, you can call me, and I’ll send them to the Williams’ Residence. You can go to the Williams’ Residence to see them. And I will pick them up the next day.” “So, you mean after we get divorced, I can see the children but may not be able to see you because you don’t want to see me anymore, right?” Cristofer asked, confirming. “Yes.” “Estelle, I know I was wrong.” “Mr. Williams,” Estelle interrupted him and said. “It’s time to let go of the past. Whether you were wrong or not, it doesn’t matter to me now. I’ve told you the truth about the car accident. It’s up to you whether to believe it or not. It’s meaningless to talk about the past. The two of us are only connected by children now. I don’t want to talk with you about anything except for the children.” Taking a deep breath, Cristofer nodded gently, “Okay, then let’s talk about the children.” “Great.” “The children can’t grow up without a father, so I hope the children will spend every weekend with me.” “Every weekend?” Estelle frowned. “Yes, every weekend. I love them. I want to spend as much time with them as possible. I have consulted with my lawyer about it, and he said such a requirement is legal and reasonable.”
Estelle frowned more tightly and said nothing. “I will take good care of the children. Don’t worry.” “Okay. You can spend the weekends with them if you want, but I also have a requirement.” “Go ahead.” “Don’t let Gretchen stay with the children under any circumstances. You are their father, but Gretchen is neither family nor relative to them. Besides, she has tried to hurt my children many times. I will never allow such things to happen again,” Estelle blurted out seriously. “No problem. That’s also what I think,” Cristofer nodded in agreement. Hearing his words, Estelle was a little surprised and asked, “You... You don’t believe in Gretchen either?” “I trusted her. But as it turns out, I was wrong, quite wrong. Estelle, I want to make up for my fault. I know that you won’t forgive me no matter what I do. But even so, I will still try my best to make up for it and be good to you and to our children in the future. That is what I must do as a man and a father,” Cristofer said sincerely as he gazed at her. Remaining unmoved, Estelle fixed her hair, disheveled by the gentle wind, and tucked them in behind her ear. Then she said coldly, “It’s good that we’ve reached an agreement. Since we have nothing else to talk about, please drop me at the road sign ahead. I can go to the Williams’ Residence by myself.” “Estelle.” “Anything else? Mr. Williams, could you finish your words all at once?” With a forced smile, Cristofer asked in a sad voice, “Estelle, how come our relationship become like this?” ‘How come our relationship becomes like this? That’s fate, and we can’t change it,’ Estelle thought helplessly. At her insistence, Cristofer finally dropped her at the road sign not far away. Estelle then took a taxi to the Williams’ Residence. While the driver was driving, she looked back several times and didn’t see the black Porsche. Then she was sure that Cristofer was not following her and felt much relieved. On second thought, she felt she was too childish and narcissistic. ‘Come on, Estelle. Don’t flatter yourself. Why would Cristofer follow you? He’s going to be the husband of another woman and the father of another child.’ ‘He treated you like this just because he feels guilty and regretful about what he has done to you.’ ‘Life is so long. And the end of your relationship is just one of the countless regrets in his life. He’ll get over it soon. Don’t think that he still loves you.’ On the way to the Williams’ Residence, Estelle received a message from Mr. Mysterious. ‘The children had arrived home safe and sound.’ Seeing the message, Estelle breathed a sigh of relief. She had lost everything that she had. Fortunately, she had her children and Mr. Mysterious now.
