"Reene, it's me," Kingsley replied softly as he switched on the living room lamp.
The sudden brightness dazzled Reene, so she blocked it with her hand and exclaimed with surprise, "Kingsley, you're back?"
"Yes, I'm home." He approached her and sat beside her, asking in concern, "Reene, what's wrong with you?" NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
He was struck by her haggard face and slightly scarlet eyes as she appeared to have been crying.
"What happened?" Kingsley knitted his brows. "Did someone upset you?"
She has just taken over Clark Corporation before I went to Diosna City. Moreover, she's got Mason, Dad's buddy, to help her run the business. Everything should be going smoothly, but why was she crying alone on the couch?
Reene wiped her eyes briefly. "It's nothing. It's because I watched a touching TV drama just now. No one upset me."
She doesn't want to worry me, so I should stop asking about it. I'll call Mason later and inquire about it.
Reene got up from the couch. "Kingsley, you must be starving. I'll make you dinner."
"Yeah, I'm hungry!" Kingsley cracked a smile. "Your cooking was all I thought about when I wasn't home."
"Oh, stop talking so glibly!" Reene smiled through her tears and lightly touched his nose. "Wait. I'll make something nice for you!"
She walked to the kitchen while talking and started cooking dinner after putting the apron on.
She was not considered slim, but she was curvy with a touch of great charm and innate elegance. Her every move was quite noble and graceful even though she was wearing an apron now.
Reene was tying up her long hair and staring at Kingsley who was standing to the side. She strangely inquired, "Why are you staring at me, Kingsley? Are you okay?"
"No." He shook his head. "I just feel that you're very pretty, especially when you're wearing an apron now. You have a distinct charm about you."
"You've flattered me!" She blushed and shyly changed the subject of the conversation. "Did you happen to see Court while you were in Diosna?"
Kingsley leaned against the doorframe. "Yes, I did. She's now the campus belle. She's nothing like the little girl she used to be."
"How is she doing over there?? I've been a bit busy lately and have yet to contact her."
"Ah, don't worry." Kingsley smiled and elaborated, "I've hired some people to protect her in Diosna City. Generally speaking, no one would dare to bully her unless the aliens attack the Earth."
The people that Kingsley referred to were Heston and Leoric—one from the underworld, and the other from law enforcement. Of course, having those two people protecting Courtney put him at ease.
Reene smiled tenderly. "That's good…"
Beep! Beep! Beep! It was the password lock of the door. After that, Serena's exclamation came. "Reene, I'm home!"
Kingsley beamed with pleasure. "Is Serena home from Orion Tech?"
When Serena heard Kingsley's voice, she took lighter steps. She dashed up to him and asked in surprise, "King, when did you come home?"
"I just got home." He noticed Serena was wearing a slim-fitting suit and skeptically inquired, "Serena, did the Mercenary Commission become a technology firm? Why are you dressed so formally?"
She rubbed her brother's hair lovingly. "We tier two assassins had a meeting today to distribute several tasks."
"Do you need a hand?" He pretended to brag on purpose. "Don't forget that I know Captain Leonard from the Cleapolis Military District!"
