"Sandy."
As Sandy and Brandon stood in this tense standoff, Maya couldn't bear it any longer. She stepped
forward and approached them, softly calling out to Sandy and Brandon.
Sandy's gaze shifted to Maya's voice, and she looked up with a distracted expression.
Maya smiled at Sandy and reached out to take the medicine from her hand. "Brandon's actions were
indeed wrong, it's his fault. But Sandy, if Brandon truly intended to let Olive die, would you like him?"
Maya paused briefly, then continued, "Setting aside everything else, if it were someone else, Brandon
would have helped. He just didn't want a life to be lost in vain. He didn't have any other motives."
"Not hiding anything from you, I went to the hospital with your big brother earlier. Olive's condition isn't
very good. She might not make it. The Longmans made several calls, even to my mom, asking her to
persuade Brandon to go and see her. But Brandon didn't go. He said he's not a doctor and going
wouldn't save her. He had already done his best to save her once."
Maya looked at Sandy, speaking each word deliberately. "Sandy, there's no other emotional connection
between him and Olive except that they know each other. Nothing more."
"So, Sandy, calm down first. Can you give him a chance to explain? Can you give this child a chance to
come into this world? Or can you give your relationship with Brandon another chance? Don't be hasty
in delivering a death sentence to the child, to Brandon, to your feelings."
Sandy stood there, stunned.
Anthony had asked her if she would regret it.
Brandon had asked her if she was directly sentencing him to death.
But it was Maya's words that woke Sandy up from her daze. Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
It was her fear, her cowardice, that had driven her to make such a decisive judgment against Brandon.
Stella's failed marriage with Luca had deeply influenced her. Stella and Luca, childhood friends of
nearly thirty years, had eventually gone their separate ways. Luca fell in love with someone else,
leaving Stella devastated.
Every time Sandy recalled Stella's state after discovering Luca's betrayal, her heart ached for her.
Now, seeing Brandon involved with others, Sandy subconsciously projected her own experience onto
them.
They say that there's no true empathy in this world, that only those who have experienced something
firsthand truly know the taste of those feelings.
At this moment, Maya's words made Sandy suddenly realize.
She was simply scared, she was weak.
She hadn't even given Brandon a chance to explain or defend himself.
Just then, Sandy's phone rang.
She snapped back to reality, picked up her phone, and glanced at the caller ID.
It was Stella calling.
Sandy stared at her phone for a few seconds before answering, trying to sound casual, "Hey?"
"Where are you?" Stella cut to the chase.
Sandy hesitated briefly before replying in a low voice, "At Viteto, I..."
"I've just landed. Come pick me up."
Stella didn't consider Sandy's pregnancy or the fact that she had received a miscarriage-prevention
shot just two days ago. Her tone was commanding.
Listening to Stella's words, Sandy's grip on the medicine tightened involuntarily. "Sis, I might have..."
"Sandy, I said come pick me up now, or you won't have to see me again in the future."
Stella's tone was unmistakably resolute, a force Sandy had never encountered before.
If Sandy couldn't sense Stella's anger at this moment, then she truly would have been derelict in her
duties as a sister.
"Sis, can someone else go pick you up? I have something to attend to here."
Even so, Sandy refused Stella once again.
Stella's chilly voice came through the phone, "Sandy, I'll say it one more time. Come pick me up now, or
don't bother seeing me ever again."
Stella had always loved Sandy unconditionally throughout the years. Yet today, she was forceful in a
way Sandy had never seen before.
Sandy finally relented, "I understand. Wait for me at the airport. I'll come over now."
After agreeing, Sandy turned to meet Maya's gaze and whispered, "Maya, I need to go to the airport to
pick up my sister. Let's talk about... Brandon's matter later."
Maya had overheard Sandy's conversation earlier. "Your sister's here too?"
Sandy nodded. "At the airport."
"Let Brandon take you to pick her up. We'll wait here for you." Maya turned to Brandon and pulled him
aside. "Go with Sandy to pick up her sister."
Brandon looked at Sandy cautiously, seeking her opinion.
Just then, Anthony came over and took a glance at Brandon's face before walking up to Sandy. He
stood in front of her and asked, "Do you have the medication?"
Sandy looked up at Anthony's face, then nodded and muttered, "My sister is here in Viteto. I need to go
to the airport to pick her up."
Anthony said softly, "I'll go with you."
Sandy was about to speak, but Maya, who had overheard the conversation, preempted her. "Mr. Austi,
right? You don't need to trouble yourself. We'll take care of Sandy here. Thank you for taking care of
her these past two days."
When Anthony heard Maya's words, he turned to look at her, then at Sandy.
Sandy whispered to Anthony, "Brandon's sister-in-law."
Anthony nodded, then looked back at Maya. "Miss Maya, Sandy is a friend of mine, so it's only natural
that I look out for her. If we're talking about gratitude, it should be Sandy expressing it."
Maya's expression changed slightly, and she was about to respond when Brandon stepped forward and
gently pulled her aside. "Maya, go with my brother. I'll handle things here."
Maya glanced at Brandon, her words caught in her throat.
At this moment, Kason approached from the side. He glanced at Anthony, then focused his gaze on
Sandy's face, speaking gently, "Sandy, let Brandon take you to pick up your sister. She's come a long
way, and it's important for her to rest. Can you do that?"
Compared to Maya's directness, Kason's gentle tone made it difficult for Sandy to refuse.
After a brief hesitation, Sandy nodded, "Alright."
After agreeing, Sandy turned to Anthony and whispered, "I'll contact you later. I need to go pick up my
sister."
Anthony could tell that Sandy might change her mind about removing the child. Her decision was likely
influenced by her emotional state, and if she calmed down, she might not go through with it.
He had informed Doctor Dobbin that he wouldn't perform the surgery until Sandy was absolutely
certain.
