Chapter 1113: Probably Just These Few Days
After Zane finished speaking, there was a moment of silence on Lisa's end before she finally said, "Can
you guarantee that?"
"I've said it. If you trust me, follow my instructions. If you don't believe in me, it's up to you," Zane's tone
was calm and devoid of excess emotion.
"Alright, I trust you. I hope you can keep your word," Lisa conceded.
Zane nodded, "I don't have time to meet you today. Let's arrange another time."
"Call me when you have time," Lisa responded.
With that, Zane was about to end the call.
But just as he was about to hang up, Lisa's voice called out to him again, "Zane."
"What is it?"
"Will you take good care of Jo?"
Zane nodded, "As long as he's within my sight, he'll be fine."
Lisa chuckled, "Thank you."
Zane didn't say more and simply ended the call.
Conveniently, he had parked the car in front of D-king Castle.
Zane pocketed his phone and carried the pastries he had bought as he stepped out of the car.
Upon entering, he found only Aunt Gloria and Aunt Alice in the living room.
"Mr. Lawrence."
"Where's Yanis?" Zane changed his shoes and inquired as he glanced around.
"Mrs. Lawrence has been upstairs for quite a while," Aunt Alice responded.
Zane nodded, setting the pastries on a nearby table before heading upstairs. In the bedroom upstairs,
Yanis stood by the window, her gaze distant as if she were lost in thought.
Zane placed the items he was holding on the table and approached Yanis from behind, wrapping his
arms around her. "Why are you standing here?"
Yanis didn't move from her spot as she leaned back slightly against Zane's embrace. "Why did you
come back all of a sudden?"
"Finished my tasks and missed you, so I came back," Zane replied, not mentioning that Aunt Alice had
called him.
Yanis smiled faintly. "I can smell the pastries. Are they from that bakery?"
Zane nodded. "Do you want some?"
Yanis shook her head. "Not hungry right now."
"Then we can eat later."
With that, Zane turned her around to face him and leaned down to give her a kiss on the corner of her
lips. "Tell me."
Yanis tilted her head up to look at him. "Zane."
"Yeah?"
"Kiss me again and then hold me."
Zane looked at her, not questioning her request. He leaned down and kissed her.
The kiss was tender and lingering, devoid of any tangled emotions.
After the kiss, he held her tightly in his arms.
After a while, Yanis's voice, muffled by his chest, emerged. "Uncle Baxter came again after you left.
She doesn't seem to have much time left."
After hearing Yanis's words, Zane gently patted her back. "Do you want me to go with you?"
Yanis responded with a soft "Mm," and continued, "I told her I would come around noon."
Zane glanced at the time. "It's still early. Aunt Alice said you didn't eat much in the morning. Would you
like something to eat?"
Yanis looked up at him. "You're cooking?"
Zane nodded. "What do you want?"
Yanis thought for a moment. "Anything you make is fine."
Zane chuckled softly. "Alright, I'll make something. Do you want to come down with me now or wait a
bit?"
"Let's go together."
Zane led Yanis downstairs. He had her wait in the living room while he rolled up his sleeves and
headed into the kitchen.
"Mr. Lawrence, do you need any help?" Aunt Alice asked, looking at Zane.
"No, I'll handle it," Zane replied.
While his culinary skills were limited, he knew how to make dishes that Yanis enjoyed. With frequent
practice, he managed to make dishes that were not only visually appealing but also delicious.
Yanis sat in the living room, her gaze fixed on Zane's face, which she hadn't taken her eyes off since
he came in.
Zane finished cooking rather quickly. He prepared a bowl of tomato beef noodles.
Yanis had only eaten a few bites in the morning, and she was starting to feel hungry now that she
smelled the food. She finished the bowl of noodles quickly, and it not only satisfied her stomach but
also improved her mood.
When the clock indicated it was time to leave, they headed to Baxter Mansion. They arrived at exactly
twelve o'clock.
Yanis took a deep breath and pressed the doorbell.
The person who opened the door was unexpected.
When Yanis saw Mila standing in the doorway, she was slightly taken aback.
Mila quickly reacted and nodded at Yanis. "Long time no see." Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
Yanis collected her thoughts and nodded back. "Indeed, it's been a while."
Mila stepped aside. "Come in. Uncle Baxter went out to buy something, and she should be back soon."
After telling Yanis, Mila turned her attention to Zane. She nodded slightly in acknowledgment. "Mr.
Lawrence."
Zane also nodded in response.
Once inside, Mila led them to the living room where they sat down. She poured water for
them before taking a seat herself. The atmosphere felt somewhat stifled.
"Well, you see, Aunt Gloria's health hasn't been great these days, so I came to check on her,"
Madison's explanation was meant for Yanis, who was listening attentively.
Yanis's brows twitched, but she didn't respond.
Mila looked at Yanis, and after a moment, she tentatively suggested, "Yanis, would you like to go
upstairs and see her?"
Yanis hesitated upon hearing Mila's words and looked at her.
Mila seemed nervous, too. "I was just suggesting. If you don't want to..."
"Come upstairs with me," Yanis interrupted before Mila could finish her sentence.
Mila was taken aback by Yanis's decisiveness but quickly nodded. "Sure."
Yanis then exchanged a glance with Zane before following Mila upstairs.
As they stood in front of the bedroom door, Yanis's steps faltered.
Mila also paused when Yanis did and looked at her. "Maybe take a moment to prepare yourself?"
Yanis pursed her lips and turned to face Mila, her voice soft as she asked, "Is her condition really that
bad?"
Mila nodded. "The doctor said that if she can hold on for a while longer, she might have some time left.
But if she can't..."
"It might be just a few days," Yanis finished Mila's sentence.
Upon hearing Mila's words, Yanis couldn't quite describe her feelings. It was as if a hand had tightly
gripped her throat, making it hard to breathe.
After a long pause, Yanis raised her hand and pushed open the door.
The moment the door opened, the strong scent of medicine hit her.
Yanis frowned slightly and stepped into the room.
The person lying on the bed assumed it was Mila and didn't turn around. In a hoarse voice, she
requested, "Mila, can you get me some water?"
Mila entered the room and picked up a glass of water. She was about to approach when Yanis held her
back. Yanis took the glass from her hand, inserted a straw into it, and offered it to Madison, who was
lying on the bed.
Madison opened her mouth and sipped the water through the straw. Then, she finally opened her eyes.
When Madison saw Yanis by the bedside, her entire body tensed.
"You... you're here," Madison's voice trembled.
