Chapter 1115: Being Honest

Madison adjusted her lying position and shook her head gently, "Nothing much."

Originally, Madison had wanted to personally apologize to Yanis. However, when she met Yanis's gaze,

the words seemed to stick in her throat and she couldn't say them.

It wasn't for any particular reason. She just felt that saying a simple "I'm sorry" wouldn't be enough to

make up for the grievances Yanis had suffered over the years. If she hadn't left Yanis with Martin and

instead brought her into the Baxter family, would things be different now?

But it was clear that it was too late for such thoughts.

No matter if it was for Yanis or for Ivan, her decisions had impacted them significantly.

With these thoughts, Madison felt that her apology would be like a futile attempt to gloss over

everything that had happened. Ryan sat down beside the bed, saying, "You don't have to keep dwelling

on the past. It wasn't all your fault back then. I share the responsibility too. We can't make up for this no

matter what we do, so we might as well be honest, explain what needs to be explained, at least that

way we can have a clear conscience."

Listening to Ryan's words, Madison fell silent for a while before softly saying, "I understand."

After speaking, Madison looked at Ryan and said, "Call Ivan, ask him to come back too."

Ryan's eyebrows furrowed at these words, then he nodded, "Alright."

Ryan had personally cooked dinner that evening. When Yanis saw the table full of dishes, she couldn't

help but keep glancing at Ryan.

Because they were all dishes she liked.

Every single one of them.

Lowering her voice, Yanis asked Zane, "Did you tell Uncle Baxter what I like to eat?"

Zane shook his head at Yanis's question, "I didn't ask, and I didn't say anything."

Zane's response left Yanis feeling a bit suffocated, an indescribable sensation.

"Yanis, eat more," Ryan said, using his chopsticks to pick up some food for Yanis. This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.

Yanis nodded, "Okay."

Perhaps because everything on the table was what she liked, Yanis actually ate quite a bit.

After dinner, Ryan had the housekeeper clean up. Then, he turned to Madison, "I'll help you upstairs."

Yanis hesitated for a few seconds before getting up, "I'll do it."

Both Ryan and Madison looked surprised at Yanis's offer.

"Let Yanis do it," Zane spoke up when he saw that neither Ryan nor Madison had said anything.

Ryan heard Zane and nodded, moving aside to let Yanis take over.

Yanis stepped forward and helped Madison up the stairs. Unlike before, there wasn't as much

heaviness in the air when they were alone together.

Yanis assisted Madison onto the bed, "Do you want another pillow?"

Madison hesitated for a moment, then nodded.

Yanis fetched a pillow from the side and placed it behind Madison. Afterward, she pulled the blanket up

for her and sat down by the bedside.

Madison looked at Yanis and took a deep breath before speaking, "Yanis, I was wrong in the past, I'm

sorry."

After hearing Madison's words, Yanis glanced at her and softly shook her head, "You don't need to

apologize. If you had brought me into the Baxter family back then, maybe I wouldn't have met Zane.

This is fate. Though I haven't had the best years, I am still content in some aspects. So, you don't need

to feel sorry. After all, life is full of gains and losses."

Instead of Madison apologizing, Yanis ended up comforting her. Each of Yanis's words seemed like tiny

needles, pricking at Madison's heart.

She had never felt that leaving her daughter behind was wrong, nor did she believe that her decisions

were incorrect. Back then, she was young and wanted to live her life well, to have a better life than

anyone else, especially a better life than when she was with Martin.

So, she had never thought her choices were wrong.

Leaving her daughter so heartlessly for another woman was a callous decision. Even when she

married into the Baxter family, she believed it was the best choice she had ever made in her life.

But now, she realized that leaving Yanis behind was the biggest mistake she had ever made.

"Yanis, I'm not asking for your complete forgiveness. The fact that you're here to see me already makes

me content," Madison reached out to hold Yanis's hand, but withdrew it hesitantly before her hand

could make contact.

Yanis saw Madison's gesture and reached out, clasping Madison's hand herself. "You don't need to

apologize. The past is in the past. The present is what matters now, and it has nothing to do with the

past."

Even now, she couldn't bring herself to call Madison by any familiar terms of endearment. However, at

this point, Yanis wasn't keen on dwelling on the past or their past actions.

The past was over, and it was time to turn a new leaf.

Upon hearing Yanis's words, Madison's emotions stirred. She wanted to say something, but when she

tried to speak, her eyes welled up with tears, and her voice choked up.

In the end, Madison couldn't articulate a complete sentence. She simply held onto Yanis's hand tightly.

Yanis didn't hurry to retract her hand, and she spoke softly, "Rest well and take care of yourself. That

way, I... and Ivan won't worry, and Uncle Baxter won't worry."

Madison nodded, her voice tremulous, "I... I know."

Yanis hummed in acknowledgment, "It's getting late. Zane and I will head back now. If I have time, I'll

come visit you."

For Madison, these words were like a joyful surprise.

She looked at Yanis excitedly.

Meeting Madison's gaze, Yanis spoke softly, "I'll come."

Madison nodded, her voice still shaky, "Okay, okay."

Without lingering further, Yanis stood up and prepared to leave. Just as

she was turning to leave, she hesitated for a moment, turned back to look at Madison lying on the bed,

and softly said, "The bracelets and the longevity lock will have someone wearing them soon, one for

each person."

Madison took a moment to process Yanis's words, and before she could fully grasp their meaning,

Yanis had already left.

After Yanis left, Madison took a while to snap out of her thoughts. Eventually, she comprehended what

Yanis had said earlier.

In an instant, joy surged in her heart, and tears once again streamed down, landing heavily on her

pillow.
