Chapter 33
Chapter 33
"You've got issues. Don't forget, she's someone's wife."
…
Zoe was alone in the dressing room as she took off the little black dress, revealing her fair body adorned in black lingerie, glowing softly under the dim yellow lights.
With a creak, the door swung open. Zoe was startled, immediately covering her chest with a shirt and turning to see who it was. To her surprise, it was Mason. Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
He stared at her, leisurely closing the dressing room door behind him.
Zoe bit her lip. "Mason, this is the women's dressing room!"
Mason seemed to ignore her words.
He walked toward her, removing the shirt from her hands before she could react. Then, with one hand, he pressed her against the dressing room counter, examining her under the lights.
This situation made Zoe uncomfortable. Goosebumps covered her body as she trembled slightly. She dared not speak, afraid of attracting others into the room.
However, Mason did not do anything else. He just quietly observed her as if they had never been a married couple, and this was the first time he had seen her body. There was not a hint of desire in his eyes.
After a while, he loosened his grip on her.
Zoe silently turned away, fingers trembling as she changed into her clothes. Trying to sound nonchalant, she asked, "Mason, what is the meaning of this?"
Mason's mood was complicated.
In the past three years of marriage, he had never cared about Zoe. He did not take it seriously when she proposed a divorce, thinking Zoe belonged to him. Unexpectedly, so many men were coveting his wife, and he had not noticed before.
He moved closer to her from behind.
He breathed gently against her delicate earlobe. The smell of tobacco filled up her nose. Her ears turned a faint pink. It was incredibly enticing.
Mason lowered his gaze, his Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily. His voice was husky as he spoke, "How should I describe you, Mrs. Lockwood? A femme fatale?"
Zoe did not understand his meaning, and Mason did not want her to.
He remained silent in the car back to the Lockwood residence, occasionally turning to look at her when they stopped at red lights. It made Zoe uneasy, but she had no intention of thinking that Mason had suddenly fallen in love with her. She was not that conceited.
Late at night, a black Bentley pulled into the Lockwood estate. When the car stopped, Mason casually said, "Quit your job. I'll get you a new one."
His attitude was ambiguous, but Zoe was not interested in guessing. Holding onto the car door handle, she said softly, "Mason, I don't know what you're thinking, but I think this job is fine. I don't need you to get me anything."
She went out to work to distance herself from him. There would be no point in everything she had done if she accepted his arrangements.
Zoe wanted to get out of the car, but Mason held onto her wrist. His eyes were more bottomless than she had ever seen, especially attractive when angry.
This standoff lasted for half a minute when Mason finally asked calmly, "Zoe, do you not want the things I give you? Do you really hate me that much?"
Zoe could not pull her hand free.
She blinked, her voice carrying a hint of confusion. "I don't hate you."
"Then, what is it?"
Mason pressed on, but the conversation could not continue.
The car door suddenly opened.
A servant looked at them and smiled warmly.
"Mrs. Barbara heard some noise and knew you were back. She told me to come and greet you."
Zoe realized she had misunderstood and tried to pull away.
However, Mason not only refused to release her hand but gently brushed the back of her hand with his fingertip.
They appeared like a loving couple.
