Love's Redemption

Redmption 255

Redmption 255

I didn’t reach for the orange juice myself. I waited to see how the waiter would handle it. But before the waiter could move, Chris took two glasses of orange juice. He placed one in front of me and held the other.

Then, he said, “Mom, you have high blood sugar. I had them prepare almond milk instead.”

Before Bree could respond, Chris set the other glass in front of Jewel. Jewel flashed Chris a delicate smile, but it was filled with a sense of fragility.

The look was genuinely affecting. It was so moving that even I found it hard to bear, let alone Chris. Bree must have noticed, as she refrained from making any more sharp remarks.

As the dishes continued to come out, I noticed that they were all my favorites. Bree served me each dish, making me feel as if I had some issues with my hands and couldn’t serve myself.

Chris and Jewel seemed to be completely ignored as if they were mere bystanders. I felt genuinely awkward. If it were me, I would have been overwhelmed and uncomfortable.

Under Bree’s constant fussing, I eventually had to call a break and find an excuse to go to the restroom. Unexpectedly, Chris followed me out.

“Madeline, my mom is being unreasonable.”

I smiled faintly. “Then you should talk to her.”

Upon hearing this, Chris’s face turned cold. “My mom is standing up for you. Can’t you see that?”

“I do,” I replied bluntly.

“Madeline, you’ve found someone new. Why are you encouraging my mom to target Jewel? I’ve told you before, everything here is my debt to Jewel. My mom’s treatment of her only adds to my guilt,” Chris said angrily.

“Chris, do you think you’re worth my effort to influence others?” I responded coldly.

Chris was momentarily taken aback by my words. I looked at him with disdain. “The moment I gave up on you, you stopped being worth my time of effort.” NôvelDrama.Org owns all © content.

“Madeline, I don’t believe that,” Chris said, his voice low.

“Then what do you believe? That this is all an act? That I still harbor feelings for you?” I pressed on. “Chris, where does your confidence come from? My love is reserved for those who deserve it. Do you think you’re worthy of my love?”

Chris was left speechless.

“By the way, Jewel’s brother, Yerick, seems to have lost his mind. He’s trying to pursue me and even sent flowers to my office. And guess what? He sent white roses.”

As soon as the words left my mouth, Chris’s eyes immediately widened in shock. “When did this happen?”

“Today,” I said with a mocking smile. “Chris, do you think I should agree to it?”

Chris’s jaw tightened. “I had no idea about this.”

‘Then at least you’re still decent,” I said coldly.

If he really instructed Yerick to pursue me, then I would have been blind to have loved him for so many

years.

“I’ll get to the bottom of this,” Chris muttered.

I didn’t respond and instead headed back to the restroom.

“Maddie,” Chris called after me, but I didn’t stop. However, I still heard what he said afterward. He asked, If I died one day, would you feel heartbroken?”

Suddenly, my nerves tightened, and my chest felt heavy. But I didn’t stop, nor did I respond. I wanted to retort harshly, saying he would find out after he was gone, but I decided to leave a line of decency, especially since he had been someone I once loved.

Three minutes later, I emerged from the restroom to find that Chris had vanished. I didn’t know if he had

gone

back to the private room or left altogether.

Considering the scene in the private room, I was reluctant to return. Hence, I wandered over to the fish pond to watch the fish.

After a while, I heard some familiar footsteps. It sounded like Brandon’s. I looked up quickly and saw Brandon, and standing next to him was none other than Xander.
