Redmption 341
Redmption 341
"That's great."
I felt grateful to Keith at this moment, never expecting him to be so thorough.
It was already a great stroke of luck that a professor of his stature would perform the surgery himself. But for him to also be so attentive to the heart donor was beyond my expectations.
I knew that it was because of Lisa.
"Do they know when the new heart will arrive?" I asked again.
Brandon lowered his gaze. "I'm not sure."
I glanced at the clean yet chilly hospital corridor. "So, what does Mr. Marrow suggest? Should she stay in the hospital and wait, or go home to rest?"
"I'll let her go home and rest. Ellie had hardly ever left her village due to her health and had never been to Hilcord. I want to take her around." Brandon shared his thoughts.
I agreed. The fact that Ellie had never tried coffee or milkshakes before spoke to how alien the outside world was to her. She might have read about it in books, but she had never actually experienced it.
"Alright." I supported his idea.
I couldn't help but think about the conversation I overheard at the stairwell, so I took the opportunity to probe him. "I'm concerned that if you continue to keep her company, you won't be able to go to the office."
Brandon didn't respond, so I continued with a sigh. "It'd be great to be the boss, then you wouldn't have to work for money and could spend time with your family."
He still didn't reply. His nervousness must be about to reach a boiling point.
Brandon had told me that he'd never lie, and I believed him. But I couldn't understand why he was pretending to be poor in this situation and unwilling to tell the truth.
Was there some hidden concern?
Or did he not trust me?
"Brandon, why do you think someone would pretend to be poor?" My question was abrupt and direct.C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
His gaze sharpened, yet he remained silent.
I laughed mockingly. "In novels and dramas, it's usually because they don't trust the person. Especially when men pretend to be poor, they want to test whether the woman they like is only after their money."
I kept my gaze on Brandon's, and he didn't avoid my eyes. He didn't seem guilty.
But I had heard his conversation with Xander.
"We all have our reasons for what we do. If someone's keeping secrets, it's likely for a valid reason," Brandon responded under my scrutiny.
A wave of derision washed over me. "What a splendid reason he's concocted." I sneered, forcing a smile.
"I think it's more about a lack of trust."
Brandon's expression faltered
slightly, had said this much, yet he still refused to reveal his identity." There was no point in pressing him further.
"Mae..."
"I'm going to find Lisa,” I interrupted him, shoving the glass of water l was holding into his hand. Then, I pulled the keys out of my pocket and dangled them in front of him and said, “I need to return her keys.”
Brandon nodded in response. I walked away with steady, deliberate steps.
But honestly, I was still pretty upset that Brandon lied to me.
But then I wondered, what was his reason for lying? Was he afraid of exposing his wealth? Did he suspect that I was after his money?
If I were that kind of person, then the 'Gildon family's fortune was no less than his.
Even if things went wrong with Chris, if I were after money, I could have settled for Conrad, who had feelings for me.
But I didn't. Brandon should know that I didn't care about money. I was also well-off, so I never had to look to a man for financial support.
He said that there were reasons for hiding it, so maybe there really were.
I arrived at Lisa's office, but the nurse told me that she was currently performing a surgery. Lisa was indeed very busy.
I put the keys to the break room in

Lisa's drawer and left. However, didn't go back to Ellie's ward.
Brandon's refusal to be honest with

I went to Zack's ward, only to see two men in black standing at the door. I recognized one of them as Arthur's bodyguard.
