When they returned to the Castle, Shadow was perched by the window, clutching her computer tightly against her. She energetically typed away on her article, all the while keenly observing the movement of cars outside.
As the night descended, a sleek black car pulled into the courtyard, catching Shadow’s attention.
A figure emerged from the car and opened the backseat door. It was none other than “Alpha Dominic.” Shadow’s keen eyesight immediately recognized the driver as Frank, Alpha Kilian’s trusted assistant who often doubled as “Alpha Dominic’s” chauffeur.
“Alpha Dominic” stepped out of the vehicle and exchanged some words with Frank, who nodded respectfully. Seizing the opportunity, Shadow hurriedly sent a text message to Alpha Kilian.
While she pressed the send button, she noticed that “Alpha Dominic” glanced up in her direction. Luckily, she had already drawn the curtains, leaving a small gap to peek through.
He locked eyes with her and engaged in a conversation with Frank. Then, he lowered his head and retrieved his phone from his pocket…
From her vantage point, Shadow could not discern what he was looking at on his phone.
Yet, her heart raced with anticipation.
“Alpha Dominic’s” words and the circumstances pointed towards the possibility that he could be Alpha Kilian himself. However, Shadow couldn’t bring herself to believe it just yet.
She didn’t even dare question “Alpha Dominic.”
The whole notion seemed absurd!
“Alpha Dominic” was an extremely cautious individual. If he truly was Alpha Kilian, he would have received her message. Consequently, as he received the text, he instinctively scanned the vicinity of her room.
To avoid raising suspicion, Shadow promptly changed into her pajamas and purposefully messed up her hair. She slipped into bed and pretended to sleep.
Before long, a knock sounded at the door.
“Shadow.”
Shadow’s emotions had been on a rollercoaster throughout the day, leaving her nerves frayed. Just as she was about to drift into slumber, she heard someone call out to her.
In a drowsy state, she ambled towards the door and mumbled, “Who is it?”
When the door creaked open, a surprising sight greeted her: “Alpha Dominic” stood on the other side.
Alpha Kilian scrutinized her from head to toe. Upon noticing her narrowed eyes and apparent unease, his brow furrowed. Concern laced his words as he inquired, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Shadow jolted awake. Her throat was still scratchy from just waking up, rendering her voice hoarse. “No, I was just sleeping.”
Clad in a pink pajama adorned with a cat pattern, with her hair slightly disheveled and her flushed face, Shadow exuded a soft and adorable charm.
Alpha Kilian recalled her thoughtfulness when she had arranged for lunch delivery earlier. His expression softened, and even his deep voice carried a hint of tenderness. “Then rest a while longer. I’ll have someone prepare a meal. Once it’s ready, the maids will inform you.”
“Yes.” Shadow stared at him, dazed. This was the first time she had witnessed such a gentle side to “Alpha Dominic.”
Taking in her bewildered expression, Alpha Kilian couldn’t resist playfully ruffling her hair before nudging her back inside. “Go back to sleep.”
As Shadow reclined on the bed, her mind raced.
She suddenly sat upright, frustration evident as she raked her fingers through her hair.
Why did she obediently return to bed at “Alpha Dominic’s” gentle request?
She felt as if she had gone mad!
Driven by an inexplicable rebellious streak, Shadow hopped out of bed and swung the door open. This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
En route, she knocked on the study room door. “Alpha Kilian, are you there?”
In that instant, her phone buzzed.
It was a text message from Alpha Kilian. “What’s the matter?”
Shadow replied, “Are you in the study?”
A one-word response came swiftly. “Yes.”
Shadow stared at the simple reply, her grip tightening around the phone. Her lips pursed, eventually curling into a sneer.
She had spent the entire afternoon stationed by the window, but apart from “Alpha Dominic’s” arrival, no other car had entered the Castle.
How did Alpha Kilian actually return?
Did he fly back?
Or did he emerge from beneath the ground?
An impulse stirred within Shadow-an urge to burst into the study and unveil Alpha Dominic’s facade.
Finally, there was a plausible explanation for why Alpha Kilian, who typically avoided outsiders like the plague, maintained such a close bond with his “cousin.” Not only did he allow his cousin to reside within his abode, but he also tolerated him taking advantage of his Luna right under her nose.
And this also shed light on why “Alpha Dominic” had willingly approached her, even when she appeared unattractive at the time.
Ordinarily, when a man married a Luna he had never laid eyes on, he would meet her to assess her appearance. But upon discovering her lack of recognition, he would deceive her into perceiving him as someone else.
With nothing better to do, he had employed his cousin’s identity to tease her. Observing her infuriated reaction had likely delighted him to no end, hadn’t it?
Shadow forcefully bit her lip. Let’s see who would have the last laugh!
…
During the meal, Shadow occupied a spot opposite “Alpha Dominic,” stealing glances at him in between bites.
Whenever he caught her gaze, she quickly averted her eyes and used her fork to select choice morsels, coaxingly feeding him. “You work so tirelessly. You need to eat more.”
“Alpha Dominic” ate in silence, not uttering a word.
Shadow knew that her most alluring feature was her eyes. Hazel had once declared that when she fixed her gaze on someone, it was an irresistible invitation.
It seemed that he relished flirting with her while disguised as his “cousin.”
If he were to uncover the fact that his Luna genuinely favored his “cousin” and desired infidelity, Shadow couldn’t fathom his reaction.
However, successfully captivating this “Alpha Dominic” wouldn’t be easy.
Normally, he would incessantly tease and kiss her. Now that she had taken the initiative, he preserved his composure, not even casting a glance her way.
This left Shadow somewhat disheartened.
Only when the meal concluded did “Alpha Dominic” leisurely wipe his hands with a towel and casually remark, “Sister-in-law, you’ve been gazing at me. Have you finally made up your mind and desire to be with me?”
“Yes.”
Shadow eagerly awaited those words. She concurred, “You are incredibly handsome and treat me so well. You surpass your cousin by leaps and bounds. Even a fool knows whom to choose. I was foolish before, but fortunately, I now see the truth.”
Having said her piece, Shadow rose from her seat and sauntered behind “Alpha Dominic.” She tilted her head and planted a kiss on his cheek. Sensing his body tensing up, she curved her lips and whispered in his ear, “I’ll go back to my room and bathe…”
“Take a bath” held a certain softness and allure.
Shadow wasn’t particularly skilled in seduction. “I’ll be waiting for you tonight.” She felt too embarrassed to utter any more flirtatious words.
Just as she finished speaking, a palpable tension filled the air, causing her to feel suffocated.
Was he angry?
Well, she would only provoke him further!
Swiftly exiting, Shadow neared the entrance but abruptly turned around, casting a seductive glance at “Alpha Dominic.”
In that moment, “Alpha Dominic’s” expression underwent a dramatic change.
