Chapter 139
Jaime held up a small mirror, inspecting his handsome right cheek where a clear slap mark stood out. The culprit? The guy sitting across from him, sipping a strong drink. He winced as he accidentally tugged at the corner of his mouth, then shot an annoyed glare at Everett. "Everett, what's your deal tonight? Disturbing my peace at this hour!"
He had been working his charm on this girl for two weeks, and just when she was about to say yes, Everett ruined everything. When Selena had called him a jerk? Yeah, she wasn't wrong! Everett took a slow sip of his drink and said coolly, "Just doing my duty."
Jaime was taken aback. Duty? Since when did Everett care about doing the right thing? That was a surprise!Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
But Jaime quickly figured out what had ticked Everett off. He chuckled, "So, hit a wall with Selena and decided to take it out on me, huh?"
Everett didn't react, acting like he hadn't heard a word. Out of nowhere, he asked, "Where's Callum? Still in the hospital?"
Jaime called a server over for a towel, wrapped it around some ice, and pressed it to his face. He's worried that the swelling would ruin his looks for tomorrow.
Annoyed, Jaime replied, "How should I know? You think I keep tabs on another guy's schedule?"
After a moment, sensing something was off, he added, "Why are you so hung up on Callum's whereabouts anyway? Never seen you care about my schedule like this. Got a crush on him or something? Be real with me, man. I can step aside for you two!" Everett let out a dismissive laugh, swirling his glass. "Do I really need to ask about your routine? If you're not heading to a woman's bed, you're already in one. Careful you don't overdo it and end up with performance issues,"
That hit Jaime's pride, so he shot back, "Better than hoping to rise to the occasion and not being able to!"
Guys knew each other too well, and Everett's prickly attitude screamed frustration. Unmet desires could twist the mind!
Everett couldn't help but laugh in frustration. "Well, look at you, growing a spine."
He casually adjusted his sleeve. "The company's got a new project in Antartica. You're the perfect guy for the job. You're leaving tomorrow. I'll have Derick book your flight. Don't miss it."
Jaime immediately panicked. "Everett, not exile! Haven't I apologized enough? Give me a chance to make things right!"
Thinking fast, he leaned in closer to Everett, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Your biggest headache right now is Selena acting out, right? I've got a plan!"
Everett's dark eyes regarded him coolly before he replied, "Go on, I'm listening."
"Winning a woman back is all about attitude. Derick mentioned she brought you lunch today and you were a total jerk, driving her away. That's not how you do it!"
"I know you're picky, but you should
still praise her cooking, no matter how it tastes. You mock her so
much. Doesn't she deserve sommet
respect? No wonder she's ignoring you and even deleting your
lovey-dovey posts online."
Everett went silent, clearly annoyed. If it weren't for Jaime's loose lips, he wouldn't have known Selena deleted her sweet post and liked Callum's afterwards, which led to their argument.
But what really got to him was....
Everett turned to Jaime. "It's not about the meal itself. It's that Selena's not putting her heart into anything she does for me anymore. Everything feels half-hearted!" Jaime found it amusing. "Weren't you half-hearted with her for three years, too? Seems fair to me!"
Everett was left speechless.
