Chapter 632
Chyler had originally wanted to confront Joshua, but his newfound knowledge had shifted the balance of power. “How did you manage to get along so well with Cynthia? Could you share some advice?” he asked. He was not asking for a reunion, just for Ellora to forgive him and treat him kindly.
“No. You handle your business, I’ve got things to do,” came Joshua’s curt response. Not waiting for a reaction, Joshua rose from his seat and left, not forgetting Cynthia’s recent words.
Shirley and the others.
This suggested that besides her sister, others were accompanying Cynthia on her shopping trip. He wondered if Matthew from next door was there.
After ending the call, Cynthia resumed her shopping with Shirley and the others. The sisters walked side by side while Matthew and Zachary trailed a bit behind them.
“Cynthia, who called you?” Shirley asked as they continued shopping.
“Joshua.”
“Didn’t he go back? Why is he calling you?” Shirley had little love for her former brother–in–law, who had wronged her sister. If it had not been for his five–year–old mental age back then, she would have punched him!
Cynthia causally related the story. It was not a secret anyways.
Upon hearing this, Shirley immediately became agitated. “He must have done it on purpose!”
“Purpose? What purpose?” queried Cynthia
“He’s trying to create misunderstandings! You neither denied nor confirmed his statement. You even spoke to him in a friendly manner. Isn’t that going to make people think you two are getting back together?” explained Shirley, clearly distressed.
“It’s alright.” After a moment of thought, Cynthia dismissed the issue. It was a trivial matter as long as no one from the Neal family was misled.
However, Shirley was far from reassured. “Cynthial”
“It’s truly okay. If he’s doing this on purpose, he’s just setting himself up for embarrassment. I said I’d never remarry him,” Cynthia replied nonchalantly.
Having witnessed prior events, Cynthia had come to realize the depth of Joshua’s cunning. This was not the same calculated, comprehensive thinking he used to exhibit. Now, he seemed willing to do anything to achieve his goals.
To be honest, she had been somewhat taken aback when he confessed his devious actions. After all, his confession was tantamount to revealing that he was not a simple man but an accomplished actor with a cunning brain. In his situation, this was a risky move.
“You should be careful with him in the future,” Shirley advised, still concerned.
“Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing,” Cynthia assured, gently ruffling Shirley’s hair.
Shirley did not say much after that. Her older sister had always been smart; she had to trust her.
The group continued their shopping for a while before settling down for dinner at a restaurant. Shirley and Zachary sat together, with Cynthia and Matthew across from them.
Shirley suddenly remembered. “By the way, Cynthia, Grandpa called me a few days ago. He wants us to join him for New Year’s Eve lunch. He was worried that you might be too busy, so he asked me to tell
you.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to maloe it,” Cynthia replied.
Shirley was puzzled “Why?”
“I’ve promised Captain that I’ll be his pretend girlfriend for his New Year’s Eve family lunch. Just tell Grandpa for me. I’ll visit him later,” Cynthia admitted without hesitation.

“Don’t worry about it. I’ll handle Grandpa. You just focus on going to Matthew’s house for lunch.”
“Don’t misunderstand me,” Cynthia said.
“Misunderstand what?” Shirley asked.
“I’m just pretending to be his girlfriend,” Cynthia said seriously. She knew her sister had been trying to set her up with Captain
